My Esteemed Clan Mates,

I approach you today not only as your Consul, but as a peer and as a servant of the Clan's will. I set aside my rank in hopes to open discussion; not only amongst the leaders of our clan, but to everyone. Because success cannot come without all parts united and sold to a common set of beliefs. I will, however, use my rank as a platform to speak to you of the importance, or my belief in the importance, of our social contract as members of our nation: Clan Plagueis.

What is the definition of a social contract? It is, in its simplest form, an agreement for mutual benefit between an individual and the group, as a whole. Traditionally, it is a contract that implies that people forfeit some rights to an authority, or government, to jointly receive - or preserve - a state of social order. A perfect example of this oft elusive concept is that each member of the Dark Brotherhood sacrifices a measure of their own state of free will (their rights to do as they please) to the Dark Council (our government) to preserve a semblance of sanity (via the Dark Covenant).

But how can such a powerful idea - one we see in our everyday relationships with our governments - affect a small body of individuals united under the banner of Clan Plagueis? It is simple... we maintain some of the same concepts in our pledge as members of this clan. There will be times, in our future, that the Clan Summit - our government - asks for you to sacrifice some of your freedoms (your time and focus) on behalf of furthering the social order of our clan. Our social order will consist of institutions (our leaders), patterns of interactions, and customs.

It is my hope, as a group, to determine what we hope to achieve... as a group. Will it be First Clan in a Great Jedi War or will it be Second Clan? Should we set our sights on maintaining the highest level of day-to-day activity in the club? What do you want it to be? Once we establish that goal, it may require some elbow grease, and long-term dedication, to bring our goal into fruition. If we are so ambitious to decide that we want to attain the title of First Clan (to best all others in a Great Jedi War)... there will be several months of long, hard work. But it will not be that bad if we all pull our weight... we each do our part.

The future, Plagueis, is yours to decide. My question to you today, however, is what future do you want? What you decide will determine the effort we must put forth. And if you pledge to something and just one link falls short of the agreed conclusion... we suffer as a whole.

So what will it be, My Friends? This thread is open to the entire Clan. No idea will be ridiculed or laughed off the stage.
