Consul Report

GJW9 Prep

Run-On: Feb 20th, 2009

::bow::

Plagueians,

One element of the forthcoming Great Jedi War will be a Clan run-on. The concept of a run-on is simple, yet can be maddeningly frustrating... by simplest definition it is a story written in many segments, by many authors. It should, however, read like one, congruent story; meaning, you should work the story from where it leaves off, not where your character left off.

General Tips

  1. Timeline. Know where the story has been and where it is going. It is imperative to a story's continuity that you read the posts before you post. Otherwise, inconsistencies may occur and our overall score will be hampered.

  2. Posting. Save your spot, but be prompt. Communication will be a LARGE part of our run-on strategy for the GJW. If you know you are going to post in the immediate future (1 hour - 2 hours), please 'save your spot.' You can do this by putting up a placeholder on the Message Forum... I use, "In process of posting. Stay tuned." But you can use anything you want. You simply save your spot, write your post, then edit the saved post with your actual content.

  3. Spelling & Grammar. HUGE. With all of the Captains, Lieutenants and veteran members in Clan Plagueis you should be, at any time, able to find someone to go over your post. Even our more seasoned writers - Alaris, Vivackus, myself - will be using others to proofread our posts. Why? To make sure we are putting out our best, polished product.

  4. Cohesion. No jumping :-p What hurts most run-on plot lines is that it jumps from sub-plot to sub-plot while the current plot treads onward. Sticking with where the last post left off, is a good rule of thumb. It may place you into a situation where you have to write/use other characters than your own, but it was bound to happen at some time! If you need ideas about other characters, be sure to contact their owners/personas.

  5. Plot. Once we have more information, we will begin to formulate our plot line. It is entirely plausible for us to have several threads (stories) going at once, but it will have to be carefully coordinated so we do not distract from the overall plot: The Great Jedi War. When in doubt, get with your Consul or Proconsul so we can assist.

  6. Post length. This is a big one, folks, so listen up. If you post some 'weak-ass-sauce' (a derogatory term I use for inappropriate posts), I will give you a chance to fix it... or I will remove it. If you give me one or two short paragraphs... that is not good enough. You should aim for at least 500 good words. If you do not hit, its not the end of the world... but it best not be 'fluff' (a term I use for a post that really doesn't do anything).

  7. Frequency. Some authors will be continually posting in the run-on as they drive a plot point to an end, or push the story in new directions. Some authors will solely be posting to earn a Seal (award given for participation) and they will post once a week (minimum). It will also help with our overall participation score. Yay! So, if you are posting to help, but do not know where to go (with the story) contact me.

Conclusion

With the retirement of Warhunter and his recent transfer out of the Clan, I will be assuming the duties of Run-On Captain. This means I am your guy... it also means I will be starting/ending chapters and curtailing sub-plots within the story. No one is going to be a super-human/twi'lek/bothan super-agent of awesome-omg-uber-power and defeat the Vong all by themselves. Yes, you may be assigned to a solo mission (perhaps), but run it by me first :-p

As always, if you have questions, let me know. Otherwise, stay posted for more announcements and information!

P.S. If you plan on participating in the run-on, please give me a quick 'heads up' so I can start organizing our effort.
