(GJW wk 3)
Just a quick update from your Consul...
Week 1 Recap
I hope all is going well for you, and that you're able to participate in the GJW.
Oberst has already e-mailed the clan, but they have released the fiction results. Major props to Oberst, Raiju, and Troutrooper for taking the top three spots. We had 13 members of the clan participate in the first fiction event, and I hope to see at least that many or more for the next one. I did get a participation list from Raken, so hopefully I'll get one for every event.
We're off to a great start overall, but we must remain on top of things. One Taldryan's biggest strengths has always been gaming, so I expect them to really come out this week and next. But, I also know for a fact we have some of the best gamers in the entire Brotherhood, so don't give up. Arcona has put up a better showing, thus far, than I anticipated.
We're not here to surrender: we're here to win. Does that mean we have to win every event? No, though it does help, but it is a combination of scores that will determine the final outcome. But, in the words of Douglas MacArthur, "In war there is no substitute for victory."
Trivia and Puzzle
Both of these events can still be participated in via the GJW website. If nothing else, go for the participation points, as those will help. Of course, with the trivia, there is a statistical chance (probably very low) that you could fly through the questions, get all of them correct, in an insanely short time.
Fiction
See all of Muz's posts on the main page for specific details of this event. The week 2 fiction event is wholly unconnected from the run-on, so you can write your character doing something there and not worry about it conflicting with the run-on.
SA Event
It seems that many Tarentum members might already have degrees, but we do have people participating in this. Aegis Mar in particular has been tearing up the SA tests. Keep up the great work.
Run-on
We have our orders for this week, and everyone is working on it. To answer a fictional question, regardless of your position on a starship (if you have one), you can be on the surface if you want. I had Dranik turn command of his vessel over to his XO because he wanted to be on the ground. If you want to stay on the ship and help out from there somehow, that will work, too. Orbital bombardment is limited at best right now because of shields, so we're really down to intel.
ACC
I know we've got members participating in this. Good luck to all of you! I wish my schedule had not conspired against me for this event.
Gaming
There's a couple 1v1 events, and team event that lasts the entire war. To our gamers, I know you guys are top rate, so go out and give the other clans some black eyes.
Quality vs. Quantity
In my clan notes leading up to the war, I encouraged everyone to participate as much as they could, but with the goal of winning. If you game, you should try your best to beat every opponent. If you submit to a fiction event, you should write the best that you can. The fiction results provide us with a good example of how quality first, combined with quantity, will result in victory.
Look at CSP: they're 5th in the fiction rankings, and no one from that clan finished in the top 10. However, in the participation list, CSP had more people participate in the fiction event than any other clan. I have previously noted that CSP's strategy in the past several major events has been to throw a bunch of people at it and hope for vicotry. I've also referred to it as "whoring" and "the Russian strategy." I'm not saying that their people didn't try and that the participation rate is bad, but since none of them placed, they lost out in the end. However, we must be wary and continue to try our best because we can be overcome by sheer numbers if we let our participation drop.
Conclusion
As I said, we're off to a great start. We just need to keep this momentum going. Everyone who participates helps us win. And, if you place in your events, well, all the better.
Keep up the great work! I'm proud of this clan and I have confidence in each and every one of you. We're going for first place!

(GJW wk 4)
Greetings all,
Another update to the Great Jedi War, as well as some general clan info, too. Here's the link to the GJW website: http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/gjw9/
We are currently awaiting the results of the 2nd week of activity (chapter 1 of the story, as the first week was the prologue). Chapter 2 (week 3) is now up and running. Some things have changed this time around:
Fiction: while this event is required to be longer (5 pages minimum, as opposed to the previous 2 pages), you have more time to write it. It is due April 4 at 11:59 EST.
ACC: there is a 1v1 event that you can sign up for this week, and also start challenging. While similar to the co-op event, it is described as a standard 1v1 ACC event.
Gaming: Legends is over, but other gaming events are still running. Frosty and Dox have been on top of it for the clan, but our overall participation is still low. So, to all the gamers out there, please get involved and help the clan out. To those that have done so already, I appreciate it, and I hope that you will be able to continue.
Run-on: the run-on is progressing, though our orders are a bit restrictive. So, we're taking some liberties with things, and creating our own challenges. They want us now to start incorporating "issues" with other clans; more on this later.
Trivia: trivia is fairly easy this week, so read the chapter 2 part of the story and then knock out the trivia. It is quick and an easy way to participate. Just remember that the timer on the website keeps running until you submit it.
SA: the SA degree event is still running. Newer members in particular, this is a great way for you to participate and stand a good chance of placing in an event.
Same Goals and Methods
Nothing has changed since the day I said it. Our goal is first place, pure and simple. This can only be achieved by everyone working together and doing their own part to the best of their abilities. I want you to participate in everything that you can, even if you think you suck at it. But, I want you to try your best. If you say you suck at writing, that still doesn't mean that you can't put forth your best effort. If you don't participate, you might pass up a golden opportunity to place in something. You may not be the best writer in the world, but you could very well be better than the next person, and that counts.
If results don't turn out favorable this week, don't lose heart. There's still plenty of war left to go around, and plenty of time to reverse the standings. Also, some events, like trivia and the run-on, won't be judged until the very end.
Real Life
Even during the GJW, real life always comes first, though it may be to our detriment. I know several of you have told me you couldn't do as much as you would have liked during the last week because of real life. It just means trying harder on other events later in the war. I myself am unable to do everything I would like to do because of my work schedule.
Activity
Please CC me with submissions to any events. Gaming scores can be seen on the DB site, but that's about it. For events that you can't actually copy me on your "submission" (ACC, trivia, puzzle), you can still e-mail me to let me know you have participated. Some members have taken to e-mailing me at the end of a week. That works just fine. I ask for this because it allows me to keep a moving record during the war, and it also can be compared to any participation lists the judges send out.
Issues with Other Clans
You might say that this applies to both direct interactions (e-mail, IRC, gaming, etc), but I wanted to address this from a fictional perspective, most notably for the run-on, but it will also help with other fiction events. In the run-on orders for this week, we are given this: "We fight the enemy, but as ever, we fight ourselves. When your path crosses that of your rival’s, or even when it doesn’t, strike at him and it will be you who possess the title “First Clan”. The rest is up to you. Have fun."
Quite honestly, I'm not all that happy with this statement, in particular about fighting the other clans. First off, this same type of stuff always comes up in a GJW- no matter who the enemy is, we have to fight the other clans (and I expect these skirmishes asked for here to expand). But, consider for a moment that we are all supposed to be fighting the same enemy, and supporting units of the Army of the Iron Throne. Why would we want to attack the other clans when we all have the same objective? The fact is, Tarentum sees little reason to do this, especially when at least one other clan (Plagueis) is in front of us for the time being, and thus receiving the brunt of the enemy attack. In other words, they are shielding us.
Do as you wish in your own fiction, but there is not, at this time, any compelling reason to fight the other clans.
Clan News: Promotions and Arrivals
Since my last clan notes, the following members have been promoted:
Aegis to Acolyte, and then to Protector
Mechronage to Protector
Since my last clan notes, the following members have joined the clan:
Galen and Sutky joined Tridens
Akaine joined Gladius
Random quote:
“The big divide in this country is not between Democrats and Republicans, or women and men, but between talkers and doers.” (Thomas Sowell)
Which one are you? A talker, or a doer? Doers will win this GJW; talkers won't.
