House Dinaari Quaestor Report #37 - May 9, 2009

Greetings all,

Yes, according to the DB database it has been two months since my last report ... didn't make much sense to have a report during the Ninth Great Jedi War as I was sending out daily e-mails anyway plus all the news you needed to know was within those e-mails. At any rate we're back to normalcy which isn't too bad. It'll be a while until I write a piece of fiction again or slap together some crappy images.

Right, so the big news is that for the first time in Clan history Taldryan has not won the Great Jedi War. You already knew that but yes, we got 2nd place. It's annoying, I admit, seeing as we only lost by 30 points. We were expecting a few more Taldryan veterans to come out of the woodwork but it never happened. For a few minutes I thought about what we could have done differently but then gave up ... we didn't win and that's all there is to it. The one tiny good thing about all of this is what we no longer have an undefeated streak to worry about every time a Vendetta comes up. It also doesn't hurt that fictionally our fleet will still be the strongest Clan Fleet because of all our first places in previous Vendettas and this 2nd place finish will still put us ahead of the other Clans. As to whether or not we're still "First Clan" ... I don't know. I thought that title comes up in Rites of Supremacy but we'll see.

So to sum it don't feel bad. We put in a better showing than we thought we would and we're still in a good position to get 1st place in the next Vendetta. Novae have already been distributed to our top finishers (see the "awards" section and the e-mail I already sent out) and unique Seals of Unity will be awarded to members for each event they participated in. I have also gone ahead and recommended merit medals for those of you who put in extra effort on behalf of the Clan. Once all of those are awarded I will review my records to see what members are eligible for promotion as well.

So that's that ... the GJW is finished and all that's left is the change of command. As most of you know I will be resigning from the position of Quaestor on June 1st. After 1 year and 8 months as Quaestor (and 5+ months as Aedile immediately before that) I need a break from leadership. I'll still be around and maybe will take up something down the road but for now I need to take it easy.

Unless things change suddenly Tarax, the current Dinaari Aedile, will be taking over as Quaestor. Tarax has been helping me lead the House for a long time now and I can think of no one better to continue Dinaari's long tradition of excellence. Applications will open up on May 15 and will probably be open DB-wide although Taldryan members will be given preference. Yes, I know, it's shocking that outside people will be given a shot at a Taldryan position of responsibility but things have to change ... we've become a bit too insular lately. While we will still maintain the highest standards for our members, some things will have to change. Details will be posted on the 15th and I wish all potential applicants the best of luck. No, I will not endorse anyone in particular - members will be selected on their merits, not on their networking abilities.

On a final note I will be running sessions of Tal Trivia every Sunday this month at 7:00 PM (EST). This is an effort to boost IRC activity, have a bit of trivia fun, and for me to thank the members for letting me be a leader in this great Clan for the past 2+ years. I hope to see everyone possible in #taldryan on Sunday night!

To finish up I recommend getting on Internet Relay Chat (IRC) to talk with your fellow Taldryan members (and the rest of the DJB if you so choose).
