17 February 2010 Headmaster Report #36 <-

First, congrats to House Revan along with everyone who participated in the RoS, it was pretty fun. I managed the time to participate in some ACC battles, and enjoyed them, though my therapist tells me that's only because I was able to electrocute Shikyo and impale Thran...

During the RoS, on January 12, 2010, I hit my two year mark as Headmaster, which I am pretty proud of. This report includes statistics on that year and a few big announcements.

News

--How did Year Two compare to Year One? In terms of quantity, there were less changes and announcements. A large and successful Great Jedi War, combined with a lot of very serious coding problems, pushed many projects back. In terms of quality, however, we had a few very big changes that I am glad we got out, including the PHP conversion and the restructuring of the Academy into Departments, both of which were successful changes. Below are statistics for that second year, ranging from January 13, 2009 through January 12, 2010:

• Courses Passed: 1790 (around 3800 total during my reign)

• Degrees Awarded: 294 (including 168 during GJW9!)

• Dossiers Activated: 672

• Advancement Reports Taken: 58

• Scrolls of Indoctrination/Foundation Awarded: 80

• Clan Naga Sadow History released

• Clan Arcona History released

• Dacien resigned as Praetor; replaced by Taigikori

• Entire SA website recoded into PHP by Arion

• Weapons Basics removed as an active course

• Poetry Basics/Advanced merged into Poetry Studies

• Test of Wisdom/Advanced merged into Test of Wisdom

• Force Cults, now Force Philosophy III: Cults, released

• Chamber of Justice II released

• Dark Sage - Law degree released

• HTML Basics/Advanced revamped

• Advanced Lightsaber Studies released

• Blast from the Past: ESET ran

• SA Halls are converted into Departments handling multiple courses, run by single Professors, with select courses run by a single Docent

--The first big update for the report is our revamped Test of Power. To those that never looked, it use to be that to pass the Test of Power you had to complete a certain task for whichever game you wanted and screenshot it. Well, that was hectic and a bit confusing, so we have refined the ToP to instead require something much simpler: a Pendant of Blood -OR- 1st place in ICTE. Instead of having to take a screenshot, you just email the Professor with medal/news proof. Full details are found in the links section below.

--The Test of Wisdom, Writing Studies, Runon Studies, Poetry Studies, and Grammar Studies have all been merged into the Department of Writing Studies, led by Professor Arania and Assistant Professor Anshar, in charge of the ToW. Thanks to the Docents for their help while we smoothed out the system.

--Next, we have an opening in the SA staff in terms of a Professorship, specifically of the Department of Combat Tactics. If you are interested in this position, put together your application and send it to Taigikori and I by this Saturday, February 20th. You can find details on the Professor position in the links section, but the big thing is that you must have passed all the courses in that department. Send me any questions, but I will say that being a Professor requires time and a lot of dedication, because you will not only be in charge of grading five courses, but you will also have to help Taig and I improve that Department, which for Combat Tactics means finishing up two in-depth courses that have been behind schedule for months. Do not apply if you can't hold this position for at least six months.

--I wanted to send out a congratulations to members who earned a Dark Sage degree this past year, the hardest degree we have to obtain. Vladet, Angelo Dante, and Xander all earned the Dark Sage - Law degree, while Nassin earned his Sage - Writing degree. Finally, Kir, for continuous service to the Academy for too many years to count, recently earned his Dark Sage - Service degree.

Projects

--What does the coming year have in store? Planning too far ahead of worthless, since something always happens. However, I can and will comment on the upcoming months, mostly through June and July, in which you can expect a lot from the Shadow Academy. We have at least two all new courses almost finished, and most likely there will be three or four. We are also continuing the massive reworking of the Philosophy Department as well as Leadership Studies. Plus more degrees, and the return of Academy fictional updates and competitions. I have no intentions of leaving anytime soon, and look forward to helping lead the Shadow Academy into this new decade. Hopefully you will join us.
