Introduction
Feels like things are in somewhat of a lull lately. Perhaps that's just my perception of things that I am projecting onto other people, but I feel like the overall quantity of activity coming out of the House is lacking right now. I'm not going to rant and rave and demand that you all "do something", but I will remind you that this place is here for us to have fun and be involved.
Don't get so wrapped up in whatever project or whatnot that you may have that you don't take the time to enjoy being a member. Personally, I've made it a goal this month to participate in at least two of the Voice's monthly competitions, and hopefully find the time to do some gaming as well. Let's have a good time being a part of this club.
I also want to throw out a congratulation to Zod on making it to DJK. That means all of our BTLs have reached the coveted rank and are continuing to push forward in their development. I have full confidence that each one of them will do great things in the future as each is very talented in different ways. Keep up the great work guys, and I look forward to seeing you serve and lead in the areas you are passionate.
Competitions
Future Character Rendition - http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/dbjedi/competition.php?id=5060: A fun graphics comp for those of you who enjoy doing graphics. I will definitely be interested to see the results of this competition.
Battlefront 2 Gaming Bash - http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/dbjedi/competition.php?id=5062: One of my favorite Star Wars game. I hope to see some good participation from the House on this one. I might even try to jump on for a game or two if I can find a good connection.
[VOICE] All In Good Time... - http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/dbjedi/competition.php?id=5041: My second favorite of the Voice comps this month. I like it because I have a feeling the character development aspect of the writing will be enjoyable.
[VOICE] Something is Coming... - http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/dbjedi/competition.php?id=5039: I find this a fascinating topic. Should be fun to see some of the creative things people come up with.
[VOICE] The End - http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/dbjedi/competition.php?id=5040: This is the topic I am most excited about this month. Not quite sure which direction I am going to go, but I look forward to writing about it.
Fear - http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/dbjedi/competition.php?id=5067: A competition being hosted by our own Cethgus. Another great chance to work on some character development.
On the Horizon
Zod has been helping me iron out some of the details of the Shadesworn Ranks project I have been working on. He has been a huge help with the fictional development of the organization, and I hope to have some of the administrative headac...details worked out soon on my end. After that, I will be sending it to the Clan Summit for review and approval. I apologize for the delays on my end, but it's amazing how many issues raise their ugly head during the process that I just never planned for at the beginning. Good times indeed.
Dark Brotherhood Thoughts
I give my time to this club because 1) I enjoy Star Wars, 2) I like the fiction and gaming involved, 3) It's a fun outlet for working on projects and applying leadership theory to a "real-life" situation (that may be a little gray in this area :P ), and 4) I enjoy most of the social interactions I have with you guys. One of the tensions I feel as a leader in this club is that of my Real Life and my DB obligations. Obviously, my real life will come first, but I also realize that there is a level of commitment that I have given each one of you in this House that I will do certain things.
I want to take a minute and articulate my thoughts on this subject so that each and every one of you in the House knows what you can expect of me and to hold me accountable for that.
1)Access: I have a pretty quick email turn-around. I work 50 hours a week and volunteer 10 more hours so, yes, sometimes there is a delay, but I like to keep it around 12 hours for a reply, and no more than 48 hours. If you haven't heard from me in that time, please don't hesitate to send a reminder email; something may have gotten lost in the wrong folder or I just overlooked something. Also, I am on IRC quite often (I've taken most of this last week off because I just needed a break), so feel free to bring up anything on IRC that's on your mind. I have an open door policy and am willing to talk about anything, so know that there is nothing off limits.
2)Accountability: If I say I am going to do something, but don't follow through, please let me know as soon as possible so I can make the situation right. Like I said before, I'm busy and sometimes absentminded, but if I have made a commitment to you, please don't let me get away with not doing it. We are a team, and while I may be responsible overall for this House, I need you all to make sure that we are doing our jobs and following through.
3)Activity: This has been my weakest front as of late and I have been feeling very convicted of it. I want to learn better how to balance my leadership responsibilities with just having fun again. That's why I said at the beginning of this report that I plan on participating in more comps. I want to lead you guys from the front, ensuring that I not only talk the talk about being active, but also walk the walk.
