ACC Update So, it's been a while since the last ACC update was released. I apologize for that, but the truth is there hasn't been much of anything to report these past months. There is a reason for this and it involves a mix of long-term good news and short-term bad.
When I originally applied for the position of Combat Master, one of the requirements Sarin and Muz asked for was to overhaul the "current" system to make the ACC viable for the early parts of the vendetta. The task basically involved updating rules, improving on our guides, and making everything more accessible to the members. My staff and I had begun work on doing just that, but we ended up having to cancel those plans.
The fact is, the new DB site has progressed at such a rate (awesome work by the SCL team, by the way) that it ended up changing our short-term goals for the ACC. I have a limited understanding of the coding stuff, but I was informed after work began that the language the new site uses is incompatible with our current server. That means the DB will move to a new server that supports the language when the site launches. Unfortunately, the new server won't support the current ACC site⦠Basically, any work we put into the current stuff would be obsolete within a month or two anyways.
Instead of doing that and wasting my time and my staff's time, I discussed it with Muz and Sarin and we decided to focus on the next iteration of the ACC site instead.
For those interested, the focus of the new site's design will not be to drastically alter how matches are written or judged. Instead, the focus is on making it quicker and easier for members to start matches with each other. We're trying to make the interface a lot simpler so the focus is more on the actual writing part of the battle, rather than the technical side of things. It is my hope that this will improve upon the fundamentals of the ACC and increase the number of members participating.
At current, the major focus remains on the new DB site. As James illustrated in his last report, things are progressing rapidly on that front. We're still a ways out from a new version of the ACC, but it is coming. Until then, there is a lot of stuff planned for the Brotherhood to keep everyone entertained. April kicks off another anniversary of our split from the EH that occurred way, way back in 2003. That means it has been a decade since that monumental event. Expect this year's Independence Games to be suitably amped up for the occasion.
In the near future I will have more updates on the progress of the new ACC. In the mean time, everyone should focus on gearing up for the 2013 Independence Games and the next phase of the Dark Crusade. I've really been enjoying the Crusade so far (woo RO) and am looking forward to competing with our rival units in the future.

PS: The report header was designed for me by Tarax a while ago. He's been bugging me to use it ever since, which is why I've added it to this update.

Any news is good news for me! I miss the ACC!
We want the ACC back! =P
Also, I'm severely stoked for the new ACC Site. Can't wait to get my fiction on.
And what a great Header! We should promote that Tarax guy for his GFX SKILLZ.
I'm looking forward to a useable and streamlined ACC. Old one was horribad.
Agreeeeed.
This is of course for the future, but one of the things that need to be implemented (once everything has been play-tested and "fixed" after initial implementation) is making it so that the various rules/descriptions/whatever can't be changed on a whim. This is a large reason why things went wonky with the ACC...a lot of CMs would come in and want to do their own thing and make their own mark on the ACC. That meant they would start changing rules or tinkering with various aspects. Most of it was never formally written down or the specific CM left before everything was complete. Do that for years and things turn into a jumbled-mess.
It's like wiring a house. First person to do it does it ok. Others come in and start "adding" onto it and then years later we have crap all over the place and no one knows where it begins and where it ends. Easiest thing is to just remove everything and start from scratch. Going forward, lock it down :P
Don't forget the new character sheets! Jam3z has already crafting a working copy and they look pretty sweet.
They will be a significant shift from what we have now.
