The Herald Praetor application process has ended and I must say, we have some quality artists in the Dark Jedi Brotherhood.
There were strengths shown in the application that ranged from 2D to 3D, hand-drawn to digital sketch to vector graphics. The mini-portfolios of work that applicants submitted exposed their talent, however, that wasn't the only thing I was looking for.
The Office of the Herald isn't merely about pumping out large quantities of graphics - though that is a large portion of what we do. I feel that we also have a responsibility of growing our artists for a few reasons:
With the varied backgrounds of our membership, there are a lot of ideas, techniques, and opinions that need to be shared. Wrangling those ideas and providing a place to showcase talent is something the Herald Office should be doing. I'd like to lead the way, but I'll need someone on board for that.
So, artistic aptitude wasn't the only thing I looked for in an applicant. I asked for a P:HRLD that wouldn't be afraid to critique. Critiquing the Office of the Herald doesn't mean just nitpicking artistic style/technique/blunders - it means critiquing how the Office is run and how it can be better. Ideas are what impressed me most.
One member blasted me with things we could be doing better. Ways to improve and encourage the artists in our ranks. Thank you for applying, Socorra. Welcome aboard as Praetor to the Herald!
