The Dark Voice: Earning Dark Side Scrolls

Greetings,

I wish to lay the matter of submitting to the Dark Voice to rest. Now, in recent issues, most of the articles have been compiled and written by the Oracle Office Staff. That is going to change in future issues.

To satisfy the demand for Dark Side Scrolls, I am issuing the following:

Dark Side Scrolls will be awarded for every submission that actually makes it into the Dark Voice. The Dark Voice is currently an in-character newsletter for the Brotherhood. So all of your articles must be In Character. This is vital.

Submission Guidelines: Articles about the following will be accepted:

Archaeology: Articles about an event, item, place, person, temple, location, battle, conflict, heap of junk may be included. However, it MUST BE RELEVANT TO THE BROTHERHOOD. You can write about a survey of Jabba's Palace, if you can tie it into the Brotherhood in some way, and this DOES include relevance to your Clan.

Current Events: Clan events, Brotherhood Events, fictionalized events on worlds that the Brotherhood controls, events that may happen between the Brotherhood and outside antagonists, negotiations, trade deals, use your imagination.

Opinion Peices: Commentary on the Final Way, the Dark Side, the Jedi, the Dark Council, your Clan, Other clans, commentary on current events, Op-Ed peices, editorials, but keep it polite.

Graphics: You may submit Graphics, but they have to be clean, professional, and either be accompanied by an article or a good caption describing the event. A graphic with a caption will count as one submission, a graphic with an article will count as two. Feel free to collaborate with another person if you want to submit a graphic with an article.

Use your imagination, but keep it real. If you want to submit to the Dark Voice, it has to be passable as Journalism. Each Dark Voice will feature 12-20 articles every month, and I'll only be selecting the best for inclusion. Since the Dark Council often has specific stories that it wants included, the open space for articles is very limited. I will not be passing out Dark Side Scrolls like candy. It will be an award for truely pretigious journalism.

Along The Final Way,

His Excellency, Dark Jedi Master Trevarus Irad Caerick, Knight First Class; Son of Sadow
Oracle of the Brotherhood of Dark Jedi
Shan Long, Apprentice of Lord Chi Long
Secunda Marked of the Wanderer

I always thought the DV was supposed to be a place for us to submit our fiction or graphics. I for one, and granted I may be the only one, am not happy about the new requirements for submissions. But I wasn't happy when the DV changed from user submitted fiction, graphics etc. to it's current form anyway.

Go back and read through Trev's post again. The Dark Voice is indeed a place for your graphics and fiction. While he is placing restrictions on graphics, requiring them to be "good," and not just something wank, and done in 30 seconds in Paint, it seems to me that fiction isn't limited, except as far as being "current." Quoting Trev:

"Current Events: Clan events, Brotherhood Events, fictionalized events on worlds that the Brotherhood controls, events that may happen between the Brotherhood and outside antagonists, negotiations, trade deals, use your imagination."

Just make sure that whatever story you submit deals with your Clan, your Order, or the DB in general.

Personally, I won't have the DSS become the next Cluster of Fire. I want people to work a bit....

In the former version of the Dark Voice, I dealt with boatloads of shoddy last-minute submissions from medal-whores. Frankly, it gets insulting the members who actually took the time to submit something worthwhile.

Yah, and including all the submissions of poor gfx/fiction would make it like the EH Newsletter..do we want that? :P

What I meant by fiction was pieces of general fiction not articles written from a journalistic view. And I wasn't saying include every piece of fiction or graphics that get's submitted. By all means include only those pieces that you think are good enough to warrant addition. All I'm saying is that I'm not thrilled that submissions have to be written like a magazine or newspaper article and they have to have something to do with your house/clan or the DB as a whole instead of just your character.

Perhaps we can have some other forum for just general membership works?

Agreed - some sort of "library" where things can be stored would be good, though it may suffer the same problems as previous DV incarnations... too much garbage taking up space instead of good work being showcased.

At least with a library you wouldn't get any medals.

As I've said in prior reports....an Archives is in the works. Now, I consider the matter closed.
