Flagship Name Poll numero dos!

Hey all,

I've updated the flagship poll. There is a new one up. Vote for your favorite flagship name!

Jac

I was just curious what happened to the option of 'FireFox'? It took 13.54% of the votes in the last round... and now it is gone :o\

Thanks for any information

Also, #35 Tyrant should be removed - this is a canon ISD from ESB (shown in the Hoth expansion set of the Decipher SWCCG)

Not to mention the Leviathan (KotOR).

I'd assume Firefox was removed either because he asked for it to be or because Jac didn't want it, or a combination of the two. I can't say I'm complaining myself, Firefox might mean something to us, but to potential recruits it probably comes off as a crappy name, a la "they named their flagship after an internet browser? Lame!". After all, what would any of us think if we saw another Star Wars club with a flagship called "Super Star Destroyer Netscape"? :P Ohh... or better yet "Star Destroyer Microsoft".

There's nothing that wrong actually with naming a ship the same as another ship so long as they're not the same class. Since we've made up a whole new class of ship in theory nothing stops us naming it the same as any known ISD.

That said, from out outsiders point of view, I'd respect a club more if it had showed the ability to be creative and think up a nice original name, so I'd agree with removing very common canon ship names. None of us will care about the name a week after we've named it and people stop talking about it, so from a marketing and recruitment point of view as the symbolic flagship for the club I can agree with the idea of removing names that are way too cliche.

Ah good question. Sorry I forgot to explain that.

FF normally gets mad at me whenever I make something named after him. I mean, I think he liked the Day of the Fox and stuff like that, but he always says not to. Just respecting his wishes.

If we're taking off names for use of names of canon ships, Autarch never should've been on there, since it was the name of a Sov-class SSD. Excelsior would be gone, since I know that was used somewhere in Star Trek (you'd have to ask a Trekkie where, though). Vindicator isn't a good idea for a "Dark/Evil" flagship name; if you don't know what Vindicator means, dictionary.com is a helpful site to bookmark. And the list goes on, and on. The point being, we either take the mindset that we're allowed to use whatever names we want, or have to weed through for names that haven't been used anywhere. And in the Star Wars universe alone, that weeds out about half of the words in most written languages.

By the way, just for the poll people, "10. Desalation" is incorrect. Should be spelled "Desolation."
