Independence Games 2005: We have a winner!

So, six days, 18 hours and 14 minutes after event close, we have results for all events. Before I get to the winners, I want to thank everyone - whether originally assigned judge or short-notice replacement for this incredible performance; I would not really have believed that an event of this scale and complexity could be completely scored in a week. Special thanks to Kir, Korras, James, Mike Halcyon (who I promptly forgot to mention first time round) and Cyris who dropped whatever they were holding to take over the duties of a missing judge.

160 Brotherhood individuals have taken part in one or more events - this is also a record for the Independence Games. These individuals produced a total of 636 entries to the 35 events, down a bit from last year, but so were both the overall event count and the percentage of really easy "five minutes" events.

Another nice factoid: While previous IGs always saw one or more cancelled events or such with zero entries, this one can award all but one of its Crescents (one event had only two people, but all others had three or more) and no event went entirely without entries.

But my statistics wouldn't be complete without a less pleasant part: The interclub aspect of the games was not remotely as successful as I would have wanted it. The Rebel Squadrons went through hard times during the games and thus, most of their members had other things to care about than the IGs. It was an experiment to broaden our horizons, and I admit it did not go as intended. Thus, for 2006 you can again expect classic, Brotherhood-only Independence Games.

But now on to honor where honor is due. First, to all those who played, judged or helped out, we have this little beauty:

It's called Seal of Alliances and it'll be given just like other Seals, one per event played or graded. Oh, and yes, the graphic is a bit temporary - but Cyris will redo the Seals soon anyway, so we didn't put too many resources into it. And yes, it'll stay silver as will all Seals for sub-Vendetta competitions (those who are major but not quite full "Novas given here" Vendetta level).

Oh, winners ? Sure. Not that you couldn't read them from the Independence Games site, but here they come again:

Clan PLAGUEIS takes the Clan standings on the very last event after a tight race that saw the leader change with every one of the last four events graded!
Clan SCHOLAE PALATINAE is the one passed on the finish line, more medals overall but a gold short to take the victory.
Clan TARENTUM takes a solid third after having been the race leader for a long time.
And even the fourth, Clan NAGA SADOW were still in striking distance of first place just two events before we had all the results, that's how close it was.

Individually, the Grand Champion seems to be almost subscribed to this position:

Once again, ** Arania Aquillarum Lawakiro Palpatine** was the person to beat and, while it looked much closer for a long time, in the end she safely carried home the hat-trick and nabbed her third Independence Games, along with a shiny new Grand Cross.
In second place, however, we see a new face. MERLANCE has shown dominance in the gaming events and rightfully takes the left dais on the podium and a Steel Cross.
And finally, Braecen Triadus Isradia crowns a highly active performance with third place and a Star of Antei.

Medals will be in the mail soon - I need to get the Seal installed on the database and count CFs before submitting them, but you should have everything you deserve by the end of the week.

Thanks to all who made these Independence Games a success in spite of the troubles we faced - and see you next year when I am sure, at least three Clans will be very eager to challenge the reigning champion.

Since when do capships, fighters, artifacts and otherwise get awarded for the IGs? Those are the award types for Vendettas and RoS's.

So, last year it was how we would stand in the GJW, and now it's specialized rewards?

shrug

Yay for a new seal. I think it looks cool and will be a good addition to my collection. :P

"(and whoever I forgot)" <- That would be me, then.

Sithy: There were Artifacts given last year, remember those Clan HQ banners ?

So I am looking to get something in that range of power approved again. It will definitely not rival a full Vendetta award - but seeing how AT-ATs are given for Sunday tournament points, something in that order of magnitude or a bit above seems quite justified. Of course the final call is the GM's, but I'll try to get the Clans something for their work.

Actually, I didn't really consider those banners to be artifacts, because I don't remember them being useful, except to herald "traits" about each Clan. As far as Clan rewards, I doubt Jac and Mav will be against rewards, though if they had been decided upon beforehand, they'd likely have been happier about it.

I usually like to decide and clear things like Clan awards beforehand, too, but in this particular case the way the games were running (with the RS involvement), the unfolding activity levels and ultimately the close standings, I was unsure until the very end of whether and to what extent I'd try to get items at all.

My statement in this post shouldn't be read as anything than "please tell me what you want and I'll try to get something for the Clans in that category" - I misworded that a bit; sorry if anyone construed that as a promise I can't really make.

And the banners of last year do have a Force enhancement and provide each Clan HQ with a certain additional amount of defence against specific attack forms. They're in line with the kind of minor artifact Elders trained in Sith Alchemy and/or Krath "magic" will (in a very limited number) be able to create in the scope of the Rebirth character system.

That is very interesting info. Thanks.

It was fun :o) And now no one can say anymore that the Clan I am in automatically wins.

I love the seal gfx.

And hey, the flags of last year do have a use, that is if you've carefully picked an effect :o)

Asside from a few poor events (zoo thing for one) and a few awkward rules, it was a pretty fun competition, (and was a great improvement on last year's IGs for most parts)

Congrats on a successful event Kaiann! ... ... and arania on first place... I guess? :P:P

Props to Merlance and Braecen also, and a big clap to my clan mates in Plagueis!

Then that was my misunderstanding; I thought they were more descriptive about the Clan than anything. Although, limited as my memory may be, I don't remember ever being able to pick the effect. They were chosen for us. Like Tarentum's, which had something to do with being a bastion against the seas of our world, and the univserse, or something. We didn't choose that, and that's also why I thought they were more representative of Clan traits.

It was essentially based on the Clan specialty. I had talked to a few CONs I could reach in the time between basic idea and release and asked them for a broad effect they'd want and those I could get did specify stuff related to their Clan traits, so I did it for the ones I had no contact with the same way.

Where can we find all the entries? Or at least the winning three for every event?
