Support Child's Play

Hey everyone,

I'm sure there are a lot of you out there who read Penny Arcade regularly. If you don't you definately should start. The comics and commentary are awesome for gamers.

A couple of years ago, the guys at PA started a charity called Child's Play. It was in response to some jerkoff saying that gamers contribute nothing to society but laziness and violence. The PA folk wanted to show that gamers too can contribute in big and important ways. They began a toy drive for children who are sick in hospitals. Here is an excerpt of their website:

"With the help of hospital staff we’ve set up Amazon Wish Lists full of video games, toys, and movies. You can go to each hospital’s list and buy a toy, and that toy will be sent to the hospital. Some of these kids are in pretty bad shape -- imagine being stuck alone in a hospital over the holidays -- so getting something from a fellow gamer would really raise their spirits. Some of the stuff the hospital will give away for kids to keep, while other gifts (like consoles) will be kept by the hospital for patients to use throughout the year."

It will be an excellent venture for some of us to go and give to these children. There are a number of hospitals to give to, and a number of different gifts to choose from. I will be buying a copy of the Star Wars Trilogy for the Children's National Medical Hospital in DC.

As a gaming organization, we need to show our support for PA. Please give if you can.

Consider it done, always nice to vontribute, especially in time for X-Mas

This is definitely something that I can relate to since my younger brother had Leukemia back in the mid 1980's and I remember many children that one day I would see them in their game room watching me play "Mike Tyson's Knockout" for the NES system that came with the R.O.B. robot and the next day they were no longer with us. My Brother was lucky and he is in remission and now works for the N.Y.P.D. To me this is definitely something that hits close to home and I am proud that the DB is taking part in this.

I just saw an ad for this charity in a magazine.

As for games/gamers promoting nothing but violence... I'll make a thread on the forums.

Anything for the kids i know how it sucks never to get anything for x-mas

I will definatly look at this.

Another good idea for any of you University/College students is to go to the site and print out their flyer. I've already talked to the student newspaper on my campus and they're printing the flyer in the paper, and I've put some up around my campus. If you have the time, it'd be cool if you could put the posters out there to inform other people about it too.
