I think this should be the ECF. While it is a good image, it doesnt seem to suit the basic CF, as one of the simplest medals you can possibly get. Regular CFs should be a plain, unassuming medal, frankly this is too nice for it.
I'm actually not liking this piece. I'm not liking it at all. Now I must rant at Muz for missing this essential description of the CoF in the Codex:
This award is a cluster of three yellow Adegan crystals set in an ornate silver mounting which can be displayed by the owner. The center crystal is changed with the appropriate colored crystal as the awardee grows in skill.
As hot as this new version is (pardon the pun), it really doesn't fit with the other medals. In my medal case, it looks how one of those pins that companies give out by the thousands would next to a Victoria Cross (or MoH for the Americans).
Nice image, but unfortunately doesn't look good next to the other awards. Granted, it DOES look much better than the old image.....
Muz, nice work, but as Telona said, it was featured in the DV's Exodus issue last year. Why the long wait?

It's somewhat better looking than the old one but as others have said it just doesn't look right compared to the other medals. It looks like one of those cheap rings you get at carnivals or gumball machine, only this has a flame in the middle.
a.) The old description was based on the old medal. The description will change to reflect the new medal image.
b.) It hardly looks cheap, IMO. But the person who said that it looks like something that gets passed out by the thousands...well... the CFs do get passed out by the thousands.
c.) If you didn't like it, you had a whole year to complain, after it got posted in the DV. That part of the reason for the lag. No one complained. So, your statute of limitations is up. :P
d.) The old medal had to be replaced, the same reason so much other stuff had to be replaced. It doesn't look like all the other medals because I didn't make all the other medals, and the guy who did isn't working here any more.
I love this piece. It fits the name beautifully and I think the craftsmanship is truly amazing (then again, I alone know how long and how much detail really goes into Muz's work).
It amazes me the people who complain about such mundane things such as, it doesn't fit with the rest of my medals, or it's too fancy for something that is given out regularly. I appreciate that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that you can't please everyone all the time, but at least make it constructive criticism.
Just because I really want to, I will say something.
First, the new image design is super sweet and hot. It totally rocks. A few problems I have personally is that one, it is so good that it is actually TOO good, and makes all the other medals look like shit. So, hopefully if you plan on making this medal so much sweet you might freshen up some of the others
Second, it is kind of unrealistic, I think. While the Codex description can change, is that suppose to be real fire in the badge? If so, you can leave those medals off my ceremonial robe. I'd rather not have flames hanging from me.

Muzz, its awesome. Who cares what the codex says it can be changed. Who cares what it looks good against in a Studid medal case. (and those that sit back, and stare at your medal case on your dossier "Since they look terrible next to so and so medal." One thing tho, will the flame change to reflect the Color you have achieved for the CF?
As far as how it fits with the other medals, a compromise might be to go back and change the realistic fire to resemble a large jewel shaped to look like fire. If Muz was willing.

But still, it'd be nice if "I don't like it" was stated as, "You know, I'm glad you're trying to upgrade and enhance us, Muz, and most of your stuff is awesome, but this one just isn't my style."
2) I am one of the people who isn't keen on this design. As a singular, unique piece, if it had nothing to do with the Cluster of Fire, and was just something to look at and comment on, I would say it's an interesting design, and not too bad. For the Cluster of Fire, though, it doesn't fit. "The description can change" isn't a good way to go. For the most part, we have tried to stay true to the descriptions and ideas of each medal, and honestly, I think we ought to be staying at least close, if not word for word on things.
Personally, I think the reason it doesn't suit my style is, it looks like a ring. And, it reminds me of those cheesy rings that get mass produced in the thousands. But then, maybe that's the correlation.
Muz, you do a lot, and your work goes to help make this place "look like a million bucks." You have made a lot of people happy with your new lightsabers, robes, custom artwork, and more. You're doing a good job on things, and no matter what, your work is appreciated. But in the end, I don't think this is the best thing you can come up with. You're creative, and I believe you can come up with something truly amazing if you have the motivation to go back to the drawing board on this one.
I will not state that I love the design considering what it will be used for but there is no way in hell that I could ever make anything like that. Besides...I'm retired and don't care - let the young'ins say their peace.

I think even the Dark cross etc needs a little tune to fit the date. 2007... Btw, when you talk about realism. You do understand you are flying with planet size Starships, using focused energy as lightsaber, and moving objects with the power of your mind...
