The newest video background bit for the new TOR MMO came out today, and is pretty neat. Delving into Revan and Malak's true role as it relates to the Sith Emperor, it's pretty interesting. Also, Lance Henrikson (who was in Aliens and a lot of other cool stuff) narrates this one.
I'm not so sure that I really like the new retcon of Darth Revan as a puppet, but I can understand why they had to do it that way. Although, the way this is playing out, it seems like we're going to have a massive Sith Fleet storming the Republic's doors in short order...not just a transport of Sith tearing through the Jedi Temple. Pretty hardcore, I think.

It's not exactly a new retcon. Kotor 2 heavily suggested that Revan's original intent in starting the Jedi Civil War was to strengthen the Republic in preparation to face a greater threat that was then unknown to them (which explained his penchant for leaving large portions of the economic and industrial superstructure of the conquered worlds intact while he was in charge). So the retcon actually happend in Kotor 2, SW:ToR is just expanding on it/helping it make a bit more sense.
I really hope that during the course of the game we'll get to discover the final fate of Revan (and the Jedi Exile from Kotor 2)
Beautiful!
Well, this retcon seems to be that the mindwipe that Bastila and company pulled on Revan took out his recollection of the Sith Emperor, save for a vague sense of a 'great evil'... which still jives with the infrastructure conservation he pulled later on. Then again, that could just be us looking at it and thinking that it makes sense, when it is not what they intended.
I hope they're not completely throwing out the Exile and everything about Kotor 2. That seems to be the direction this is going, but I really liked that story. I'd be sorry to see it thrown aside.
As far as I can tell this isn't throwing out anything from Kotor 2. In fact, Kotor 2 is where we are first told details like:
First, Revan left for the Unknown Regions (or something similar) shortly after the end of Kotor 1 Second, He left because he was beginning to remember things about a threat to the Republic that was hiding out there beyond the Republic's sight.
Those are both big plot details that Kotor 2 gave us.
While I found the general character and storyline surrounding the Exile to be much less engaging than Revan, I do hope that we find out what happened to both of them (since the Exile supposedly went off to find Revan after Kotor 2 ended).
On the True Sith knowing about the Star Forge, maybe some of the important Sith Lords in the Empire were Rakata or even the Emperor himself (I know he's pictured as a 20-something Human in Blood of the Empire, but there's just got to be another twist for him; we know about Essence Transference from Dynasty of Evil, so anything's possible)
Finally, I agree with Arion in wanting to know the fates of Revan and the Exile. Like it said, Revan went off to combat the True Sith and the Exile tried to find and aide him...but it's obvious that they failed, considering that the Sith Empire Reborn invades the galaxy 300 years later (maybe they hampered the invasion).
PS -- Did anyone else notice that Darth Revan was definitely wielding his lightsaber (at least in his Dark Side sequences) in a Shien style and that Bastila was referred to as a Jedi Master when they said that she was paired with Jedi Revan to find the Star Forge. It's highly probable that she was promoted to Master after the events of the Civil War, but I always thought she was a Padawan/Learner during the events of said war and said hunt for the Forge?
I liked the video, and will have to agree that it melds just fine with what was hinting at in KotOR2. Revan and Malak rock, so I think it seems reasonable to think they will be some sort of "What Happen to Revan" quest, at least for the Sith and Jedi classes.
From my memory, there was a huge fleet that accompanied the Sith transport attack on the Jedi temple, if you look in the background as the Jedi master died you see the new Sith armada attacking the planet.
The biggest part of KOTOR2 that TOR isn't throwing out is also the True Sith themselves, which is often so blindingly obvious that it's easily forgotten that it wasn't KOTOR1 that gave us this hidden True Sith Empire ;)
As for Revan? Personally, I don't really feel they're really retconning anything. Expanding? Yes. Throwing out? Not so much, depending on how one wishes to see things. (Obviously, it's all ambiguous enough that there will probably forever be different ways to see the characters.)
The video says the Council didn't realise how far they'd already fallen by the time of Malachor, which keeps with the idea that they were ALREADY full blown Dark Jedi by the time they ventured into Deep Space and found the Sith. So, as they'd already fallen to the dark side, the Emperor's role was mostly just formally anointing them Sith Lords and sending them on an errand quest... two Sith Lords who then promptly turned around and betrayed the Emperor, claiming the Star Forge for themselves.
Even considering who told who about the Star Forge first, Revan found his first Star Map during the Mandalorian Wars, so even if the idea is now that the Emperor explained what the map was of, until Revan came along the Emperor presumably didn't know where to even begin looking (hence not trying to find it during the previous thousand years, but getting all excited about being able to accelerate the construction of the Sith armada when Revan showed up).
So, while the Emperor probably helped Revan realise the significance of the Star Map he'd already found (as they perhaps were as clueless as we initially are in the game when we find the first map), the rest was all down to Revan and Malak... since it was THEY who had the Star Map's knowledge burned into their minds, forcing the Emperor to take a massive gamble on them. A gamble he lost when they claimed the Star Forge for themselves and turned against him.
All in all, I think it's basically just given an actual persona to the role formerly played by Trayus Academy. Previously, we just thought Revan found some Sith antiques and made himself a Sith Lord. Now, we know he found the actual living Dark Lord... only to declare HIMSELF the Dark Lord, making him less of the Emperor's pawn, more the Emperor's chief opposition. I'd not be surprised if it turned out Malak was unknowingly encouraged into taking Revan out when the True Sith realised their plan had backfired.
Great discussion going on here :)
I really hope that there is a quest that involves the history of Revan, Exile, and even people such as Traya. I really want to know how Traya found out about the Sith, where Sion and Nihilus came from and how the Trayus Academy was formed.

I bet we'll see hints at the very LEAST of Darth Revan and the Exile, if not full-blown quests (maybe even a sub-chapter). As for Traya, we know that she was a Master that fell to the Dark Side post-Revan falling (it was her teachings that made him do so, right?).
Also, if I remember correctly, wasn't Nihilius a Jedi too? But he was horribly wounded on Malachor V and then when he pulled the Ravager from the depths of the planet, that caused the Force to like consume him and the Lord of Hunger was a result.
Like I said, I can't really remember. When I have time, I'll go back and play through KotOR II again and get all the details. :)
