So I contributed to my own idea and wrote a review of the new Star Wars book, Maul: Lockdown. Here's an excerpt from the review...
The concept for the story was well conceived if poorly executed. Maul is sent to a high-security prison facility aboard a space station known as Cog Hive Seven where he must engage in gladiatorial-like battles while seeking out an elusive, almost mythic, arms dealer known as Iram Radique. Maul - check. Gladiatorial prison combat - check. The galaxy's most dangerous criminals killing each other for the entertainment and gambling pleasures of the wealthy - check. So what could go wrong? I'll tell you, but first one other thing I liked and virtually the only reason some of you (if you enjoyed Darth Plagueis) may want to read this.

now that I found the right post :P Great review might have to skip it
Much to my surprise, I'd actually read only good reviews about this elsewhere. I'm two years behind with my EU reading though, so won't probably get around to it until Disney have rebooted it all. :P
It sounds though like it's the "softly softly" Maul that was in the Clone Wars show... which I must agree, I found kinda off too. Sure. Savage Opress was a cliche of cliches, but Maul... just didn't "feel" like Maul. Not that I mind him as a thinker, Shadow Hunter did a wonderful job of showing he was more than just a thug, but I'm still not completely sold on the "wise warrior" idea.
I guess they're trying to go for the wise dark samurai, rather than a barbarbian, but... dunno.
