House Ventress Report #7.1

header

Hello everyone and welcome to my first supplemental report. For the past few months, I have been running a container competition featuring three puzzles each week. The competition ended yesterday and I just processed the final results. I want to provide you with those results, highlight some of the standout participants and give you some interesting—at least to me—stats from the event.

Standout Participants

There were three people I wish to give special mention to. The first is Reiden who won all 33 individual competitions and is the overall champion. He is the DJB's Puzzle Master and thoroughly deserved it.

The other two standouts were Howie and Occultan. Neither earned a crescent in any of the individual competitions, but their consistency—only they and Reiden entered every competition—meant that they earned crescents for the container. It just demonstrates that consistent participation is important in any container.

Stats

I love to nerd out on stats and I had fun breaking down the numbers. Here are some stats that I found interesting.

Participation

Participation began very strongly with an average of 15.8 submissions per competition over the first five weeks, but as we got closer to Christmas, numbers dropped. It fell to a low of 13.3 submissions in week 7 which ended on Christmas Day but picked up immediately after Christmas with the next two weeks being especially strong. Overall, there were 548 individual submissions by 43 unique participants in the 33 competitions, an average of 16.6 per competition.

It turns out Week 8 (Rogue One) had the hardest puzzles. That week, a total 294 minutes and 13 seconds of completed puzzles were submitted by members which excludes any repeats, an average of 4:53 per submission.

Meanwhile, Week 2 (Empire Strikes Back) was the easiest with 173 minutes and 1 second and an average of 3:45.

The hardest individual puzzle was Revenge of the Sith Puzzle 3 with 75 minutes and 11 seconds at an average of 5:47 per submission. The easiest puzzle was Empire Strikes Back Puzzle 2 with 58 minutes and 57 seconds at an average of 3:41 per submission.

The Last Jedi Puzzle 2 was the puzzle members spent the most total time on with 104 minutes and 52 seconds at an average of 4:46, and the least time was spent on Empire Strikes Back Puzzle 1 with 56 minutes and 19 seconds at an average of 3:51.

Across the entire competition, 2474 minutes and 28 seconds were spent on submitted entries. This equals 41 hours, 14 minutes and 28 seconds of human endeavour on online Star Wars puzzles. An average of 4:31 was spent on each submission.

Crescents

In total, 165 crescents were handed out to 16 different members. Reiden won the most with 34 crescents, then Zuza Lottson with 27 crescents, Alethia Archenksova with 20, TuQ'uan with 16 and Other Mav with 11.

Conclusion

I had a heck of a lot of fun with this container, though perhaps I got a little excited with three puzzles per week for 11 weeks. Next time I run something like this, perhaps I will run fewer competitions at one time! I want to thank each and every person who participated and I hope you all had fun with it.
