All,
A quick reminder: applications for Left Hand of Justice are due today (March 2) at 10:00 EST. In your application, aside from the usual details, please give some insight as to why you would be a good defense counsel, and any preliminary thoughts that you may have on solidifying the rights of the accused in the Covenant. Please see my prior post for more details.
Sorry (not sorry) for knocking down so many good news posts and reports.
Jac

thumbs up
Good luck to all Applicants. We not only need someone who can remind us of our rights, but can comfort and be empathetic to our needs. We need the Left hand to be a friend.
I would like to see a restriction on who can be Hands as well as on the Appeals Panel. There should never be a sitting Dark Councilor or Consul as a member of the Chamber.
On a similar note, I personally don't think any one Clan should be the 'home' of more than one of the three positions, GM, DGM and JST.
Perhaps that's unreasonable, though.
lol
Yes Mark, it is unreasonable. If the best people for the job happen to have shared history in a Clan, then so be it.
But this can be seen as biased. Andrelious makes a fair point.
Is that 10am, or 10pm? :P
I feel Yacks had the most appropriate of responses.
Now, responding to an actual comment, I don't think there should be a formal restriction on CONs/DC members. Now, one of the former JSTs can correct me on this, but I think they generally try to not choose someone in those positions, all things being equal. However, I do think there are sometimes cases where not a lot of qualified people apply, so you may need to then give the job to someone who may already be a CON or on the DC.
Also, I know there are times that someone gets one of those jobs after they are already on the CoJ, so I don't think it's fair to have them resign at that point either. So yeah, I don't believe a rule like that should be set-in-stone. I don't even know how often that has actually happened. I feel it's not that often, but I could be wrong.
Darkblade, it would be biased if those people were picked because of their Clan affiliation rather than their skills. Since they were picked because of their skills, there's not really bias as they were the best people for the job.
Considering both the JST and GM have to be voted into their jobs you would think there's already checks and balances in place to prevent the people in the job from being biased.
Also, how would you decide when to restrict someone if they'd been in more than one Clan?
Dralin, 10:00 PM.
As to the issues raised by the other comments, we are willing to entertain proposals. The proper way to make the idea heard is to provide it via email to me and the Grand Master, with proper support for why you believe there is a problem (citing examples), details of your proposed solution, and how your proposed solution will best address the problem. While I appreciate the ideas, simply throwing a statement in the comments of a news post (which I may or may not have looked at) has never been how change is enacted in the club.
That is, if you want to engage in a debate about change in the club, the price for admitting your argument to be heard is that you properly state your case in the proper forum. It is unfair to me for you to expect me to respond to your undeveloped thoughts.
That said, issues of actual or implicit bias are already on my radar to review.
I look forward to reading and discussing your proposals. Jac
Here's an idea.
Kir is gay.
Jac....could you sound anymore like a lawyer there? :P
Awesome that yall are willing to revisit the DCov. While some laws are timeless and are there for keeps, I am glad that you are planning on making it easier for the accused to understand.
Better call Saul. He always knows a guy that can get the job done.
