Military Armory Aakorna-II-B Aakorna-II System — Severian Principate Territory 42 ABY
The setting sun blazed blood red and the duracrete bulwarks of Novara Outpost cast long shadows across the courtyard. Private Leonie brushed her long auburn hair out of her eyes and leaned against a pile of storage crates. They started to give under her slender frame and she bolted upright.
“Wouldn’t do that if I were you, Leonie.” Dalen, a muscular man with black crew-cut hair, looked up from field-stripping a blaster rifle. “All empty.”
“Of course they are,” muttered Leonie. Everything was empty in Novara. Just like the Principate to send the new young recruits to the underdeveloped outpost. She had read the news just like any other citizen, but physically being at the forefront of the expansion hit differently. There was no way they had the resources to properly man their new territory.
Dalen finished reassembling the weapon, an E-11 blaster rifle covered in scratches and charring. He pointed it at a duracrete wall; the rifle spluttered and complained but complied and launched blaster bolts in the vague direction it was pointed. “Got rid of the jam.” He handed Leonie back her weapon. “Can’t say much for the accuracy though.”
“Thanks, Dalen. Pity the fool who attacks us now.” At least they had one thing going for them. Dependable Allies. Friends. She had graduated from the Principate military academy with Dalen and they had been deployed to Novara together, along with ten other fresh graduates. In training, they’d have thirty troops defending a place this big. But it didn’t matter. She had allies she trusted, and those became all the more important, the fewer there were.
Dalen let out a low, mirthless laugh. “Especially if they win. Imagine traveling all the way across the galaxy, raiding a military outpost, and finding…”
“There’s enough dust here that it might be worth something?”
As the sun dipped below the horizon, three searchlights shone into the barren wastes. One crackled and died within seconds of coming on. “Hey, Dalen, Old Sparky’s down again.”
“Old Sparky’s always down. Bright as a Jawa’s smile that one.”
The rest of the opening of Resource Rush can be read here.
The Severian Principate and their rapidly growing Council of Systems have faced yet another attack from unknown forces. Having decided to disarm following the events of Dandoran intrusting the Brotherhood with defending their borders, the Council of Systems has now realized they are too large to rely on the Brotherhood solely.
To that end they have voted to begin a rearmament of forces, once again leaning on the knowledge and resources the Brotherhood can provide them to do so. They promise to be a better ally with mutual defense, as well as sharing any advanced technological breakthroughs and training methods developed.
The Brotherhood will answer the call for aid and begin a process of gathering resources and technology to aid their great ally, the Principate.
Hello everyone! I know its been a while since we’ve had some updates. Story Group hopes you all enjoy this little mini-event, designed to be much like the Tenixir Prison Break and the Build It events we’ve run. The opening fiction this time around was co-authored by Zentru’la, who wrote the entire Principate section.
We have several competitions now available so check out the Resource Rush and have at. We are hoping to utilize some of the creations here to bolster our factions even more.
