Late notice on both of these. This past Friday began the 2nd Gorefest for March, a make up event from February. This runs through this evening (only 4 hours left) and returns double CF rewards for all members of the Grand Master's Royal Guard. Something of note, the CF rewards are all being doubled automatically through the website this round. There will be no follow on CF awards like in the past. Since this is different than in the past I wanted to make sure people were aware.
The automated CF doubling system also works a bit different from how we've awarded CFs in the past for games with CF caps. It doubles the reward from the activity (so if I killed 15 CF worth of demons in Diablo 3, it puts 30 CFs in the que) and awards those CFs in the que throughout the week based on the cap. Something to be aware of.
Lastly, Star Wars Galactic Defense started its 4th event in 4 weeks, Covert Conflict. The Event Champion (Dark Side) being awarded this round is Zam Wesell, with a special high explosives attack that detonates after a short delay. For the Republic types Gregar Typho is available through recruitment pods, he can call in a N-1 starfighter air strike as his special move.
I will be writing up the Competition request for this Event just like previous ones just after this News Post goes live.
Also related to Galactic Defense. I recently found this wiki which provides lists of all Champions and their max stats. In general it seems that the Event Champions stats are superior to all others, when at the same level. Its worth a look if you're into this game at all.

So if you earn more than the weekly cap in D3 you wont get more than the cap with the Gorefest CFs?
Based on how the site is doubling the CFs now that is correct. Basically it's letting you reach the cap faster, but not exceed it.
Side note: I can only remember one or two occasions when someone actually hit the 210 D3 cap over Gorefest weekend.
Heh, I think I hit it this weekend. :D
Nope, according to your Dossier Activity Tab you're only at ~160 (before doubling). :p
I thought Gorefest was separate from caps, and also we won't get our cf's before the quarter ends then would we?
The doubled reward used to be separate from caps when it was done manually, before we had the coding to double the rewards in place. We had planned to get this in during the last event, but only the PVP CF doubling code was applied at that time.
If a person had earned 210 CFs (105 before doubling) on Friday then they would receive them at 30 CF per day through this Thursday, which is past the quarter's end. That's no different than any other quarter when capped CFs were given out though. Just the same as a person who earned 210 CFs on Saturday would only actually get 180 CFs for the week due to the way the daily cap works.
Ernordeth and I are talking about a better way to explain the weekly caps, or potentially changing it to a Daily cap entirely. We'll be dedicating a section of the next Gaming Update to it specifically.
yeah but the whole point of gorfest was that you gained a double reward regardless of the cap. I get you coded it to make your life easier, but it is not the same. As the point of gaming so hard this weekend was to end the quarter well. Since I do not code, I couldn't give an answer but it is kinda bunk as the gaming was done before the cap, and would not count if it rewarded after.
Also about the cap, If i capped out on a Wednesday I would only receive 30 cf's instead of the cap. Or is that something you would manually fix?
Sorry but it is kinda confusing...
If you capped out Wednesday you would get 30 CFs on Wednesday/Thursday midnight (GMT server time) and 30 CFs on Thursday/Friday midnight (GMT server time). Then the que would reset.
Well thats kinda not right :P as it would still be under or at the cap...
Limitations of the system. I covered this in the report where I applied the cap to Destiny.
And as I said earlier in these comments: Ernordeth and I are talking about a better way to explain the weekly caps, or potentially changing it to a Daily cap entirely.
Also remember. Gorefest is traditionally a PVP based competition for members of the GMRG. I added the double CFs as a bonus to encourage other gaming during that weekend as well. If it becomes a problem, I can easily take the double CF factor out of the Gorefest equation.
Eh, threatening to take the Double CFs won't get anywhere. Let's just move forward and patiently wait for the FIST staff to figure out the explanations and system changes. Thanks for the work that's put into making gaming fun in the DJB!
That wasn't a threat. It's an actual option that's being considered.
I've certainly taken advantage of Gorefest double CFs and even took it too far once, but even the most avid PVE gamers have to admit Gorefest has drifted away from its purpose as a PVP competition. I think we've seen a steady decline in Gorefest PVP since about November or so.
Perhaps having a separate, higher, multiplier for PVP (say 2.5x or 3x) would encourage PVP during Gorefest. PvP doesn't pay out nearly at the same level as PVE, as has been extensively discussed, so a higher multiplier wouldn't necessarily break the system.
Or maybe just doubling the CFs earned from PVP during Gorefest and leaving PVE at normal earning levels.
As much as I like the double CF's from Gorefest earned via PVE, I could totally get behind that. If that does happen, the one thing I'd ask would be to still be able to submit PVE activity under Gorefest for that time. Mostly this is a concern for journeymen, as submitting their activity during Gorefest is another competition to throw on the pile. Heck, maybe we could explore some form of PVE-based competition during Gorefest so we could also recognize PVE activity. Especially with what Val said in an earlier gaming update (about how PVE style gaming is becoming the norm more and more), it could be a good thing.
I like the idea of a second Gorefest type thing more tied to PVE. Will look into this.
Given that we've pretty much established that most GMRG Ranks/CF Tiers are defined by PVE, I'm not sure whether or not there's a whole lot of value in slavishly sticking by the fact that Gorefest should be pvp based. Holding back PVE in any way (by removing its double CFs or pve entirely) during the competition would seem to be creating a disadvantage in order to protect a secondary activity from where I'm standing, but if there was a monthly PVE and PVP comp, that'd be kinda cool.
