The Chamber of Justice routinely reviews policies within the Brotherhood to ensure they account for the constantly evolving landscape we operate in. A recent review of the Brotherhood Chat Policies found a gap in regard to administrative authority for handling non-members in the Welcome channel.
The below policy revision has been approved by the Grand Master as outlined within Section 1.03 of the Covenant.
Welcome/Non-Members
While the Brotherhood has intentionally designed its Discord server to minimize the opportunities for non-members to negatively impact the server (e.g., spambots, scammers, or other malcontents) no system is fool proof. The Discord administrators have within their discretion to kick, ban, or time-out a non-member in the Welcome channel if it becomes evident that they are not in the server in a good-faith effort to join the Brotherhood.
While most of the activities within the Welcome channel are hidden from our members this will ensure our administrators have the authority necessary to quickly address a situation before it could become an issue for our broader membership.
Following a recent review of a competition situation the Chamber would like to recommend competition organizers test their competitions for potential ways a member may gain an unintended advantage that is allowed within the rules of the competition and the application being utilized.
A summary of a recent example was a competition that utilized a flash based game. The competition rules outlined placement based upon speed of submission of an accurate answer. The flash based game had an option enabled that allowed users to reveal the answer after an incorrect submission.
The user could then restart the flash based game, enter the correct answer and submit their response to the competition.
Within the flash based game creation settings there was an option to disable this feature which would have prevented the unexpectedly fast submission times.

Non-members don't have any rights to access to our server, as dictated by the Covenant. This is great example of policies supporting the Covenant for the purposes of removing any ambiguity.
I, myself, have recruited members that conditionally wanted to interact with our community before signing up for an account and email list. Did it always work out? No. But there are those who ended up sticking around and contributing to our chats. That said, it's easy to attain "member's rights" simply by signing up for an account; but not everyone wants to until they have their toes in the water. It's a good policy, that still gives people who want to test out our community a chance to do so before joining.
