Smoke permeated the darkened room causing the flashing lights of various consoles to arc through the air. If not for the quiet conversation it would have been mistaken for a rave. “No, not Odan-Urr. Jedi have no appetite for business. Even if we tried to open a legitimate business, the taxes to pay for their charitable works would make it profitless,” a deep throaty voice said.

“What about Plagueis’s territories? Their championing of the Canto Bight Accords means they’ll be open to…alternative labor options,” a weaseling voice countered the first. A shimmering holoprojection dissolved into a map of the Aliso system. The smoke caused it to distort as if viewed through a fishbowl.

There was a deep belly laugh. “No, they’re going to be too focused on the pretense of being better than Arx. They’ll root us out simply to prove that they’re better than the establishment,” the first voice retorted. The holotable dissolved again and again as the operator swiped through the territories of the clans of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood.

“Wait, go back,” the deeper voice said. “Caperion System…What’s the remnant of the Empire doing?” The holoprojector began displaying pop-ups along each of the planets within the Caperion system. The newly constructed Telgorn Corporation repair yard around Myryakur. The mining operation on Isergess. The rebuilding operation on Ulress. “That’s it. A system in the middle of an industrial revolution. All those workers moving in and out of the system, the increased shipping traffic, and there,” a slimy stubby finger jabbed at Ulress. “A moon with massive rebuilding. We can sneak in without anyone being the wiser and open up a new territory for our ‘business’.”

From outside the room guests could hear the deep laughter of “Ho, Ho, Ho”.

Welcome to 2023!! It’s going to be a glorious year. We’ve already kicked it off right with a sizable round of recognition (read more below), Thran’s absolutely amazing Roleplaying session, and a new Clan Story Arc that’s in development.

The Great Hutt Expanse

Old Claudius the Hutt, the Hutt that tried to steal Sithmas, has laid his eye upon the Caperion System and is seeking to establish a new criminal front in our fair system. Currently I’ve got 25 pages of a story bible created and continuing to refine the background of Claudius and his particular criminal faction, their objectives, and key players with Thran.

The beginning of our story arc will start on Ulress

And will introduce to us the first of a series of interesting characters as we seek to unravel Claudius’s organization.

I hope you’re all as excited as I am at this upcoming arc and I’d love your feedback on whether or not the SW:CCG cards help you visualize the settings and characters (regardless of whether or not you actually know anything about the SW:CCG game).

It’s hard to believe that another year has come and gone. It’s been an amazing time with some fantastic achievements. I could not be prouder of everything you have done and continue to do.

When I had the information pulled I had forgotten what a challenging position the clan was in in 2020. I am confident to say after two years of activity that Scholae Palatinae is stable and growing.

Clan Size

As you can see in the above graph, 2020 started with Scholae Palatiane having a significant number of members leave. From 2021 onward Scholae Palatinae has ended each year with more members than it started the year with.

We do still have an opportunity at long-term retention as we had two Knightings in 2021 and one in 2022. This tells me most of our growth has been returning members versus growing the next generation of leaders within the clan.

Credits

This section could equally be called Thran’s piggy bank but K’vin told me that was copyrighted. When you look at the millions of credits earned we more than doubled the credits earned in 2021 versus 2020. In 2022 we raised an additional 4 million credits over the prior year.

This provides the funds necessary to continue to outfit the clan’s possessions as we develop the Caperion system.

Beyond simply the uses of the credits, what this tells me is that members are having fun. They’re finding competitions that they enjoy participating in, they’re engaging in the societies, they’re receiving merits, sacramentals and promotions. These are all positive signs of a healthy clan.

Competitions

Speaking of, let’s talk about competitions. In 2020 there were 257 competitions that Scholae Palatinae participated in. In 2022 there were 2,095 competitions that we participated in. That’s more than 8 times as many competitions being participated in!

To go one better, as we look at clusters, in 2020 the clan earned a total of 347 clusters. In 2022 the clan earned 11,326. That’s 32 times as many clusters. Where there is an opportunity is we’ve been flat year over year in terms of unique participants earning clusters (23).

This tells me we have a solid group of people participating but not all have had an opportunity to join in gaming, fiction, or graphic activities.

I’ll let the graphs do most of the talking here, they’re pretty much straight trends in the right direction. I’ll call out the outlier which is the Clusters of Graphics. Clearly the meme competitions which were run DJB wide earlier in 2022 resonated well with the clan. The summit has already been discussing this and will be running low level of effort graphic competitions to help continue the growth in the Syndicate.

Awards

Well…there’s no hiding it. 2020 recognition was horrible. Coming into 2021 as Proconsul I made it a pillar of my leadership to ensure that recognition occurred consistently and in a transparent manner (you can read my previous reports for those details). Within that first year we rose to 26 awards being given (excluding promotions) and in 2022 that continued to grow to 44.

This also doesn’t highlight the number of Elder promotions since 2020 which has been three and the recent elevation of quite a few new EQ4!

Conclusion

The clan is clearly on the right track. Numbers will fluctuate from time to time on membership but that’s nothing new. What must continue to focus ourselves on is creating a welcoming and engaging environment for members to engage in.

We went for broke this quarter and, I’m pleased to announce, we have bankrupted Arx. This is why Scholae Palatinae has focused on our own industrial and banking institutions. Below are the members receiving recognitions for Q4, 2022!

As a call back to my last report I want to highlight the transparency that we had been monitoring our Equite and tracking engagement through the close of Sithmas. 7 promotions in a quarter is significant and, in candidness, probably shouldn’t have happened. My apologies as for some of our lower level Equites we probably could have promoted them in Q3, 2022 and I am sorry for the delay.
