Welcome to my newest report! It's been busy over the holidays. It got cold. I got to cook my first solo Thanksgiving dinner (with Vic and Turel and a Kord), see my mom and brother in Ohio, and spend my Christmas with my family here in Houston. Now, it's back to school for the semester and more crying into my cat while This Is Us murders my heart.

I know a lot of you got to see families, or say goodbye to them, or to welcome new members of them! I know we've had good times and bad times, and a long 2017 no matter who you are or what you go through day in and day out. And I also know that we've made it to another year, that we're together, and that it's today, and tomorrow it will be today again, and we're going to keep being a family here (#ohana) and having new good days and bad days and wibbly wobbly days. And I especially know I look forward to living all of it, especially with y'all.

Well if this ain't a showdown.

I urge you all to read each of these fictions, or at THE VERY LEAST, the summaries included for each of them. They cover not only the prologue to the War, wherein the Lotus (that's half us) along with some of the other revolting Clans launched an attack on Pravus and co directly to destroy his supermegadeath ship, aka the Dark Council's SSD The Suffering.

While that was happening, though, a mysterious new force appeared and attacked both the clans' ships and the Dark Council's! The clans began to retreat, and Arcona's forces hung back to cover them. Just before we escaped, more of this new enemy's kamikaze ships slammed into us, causing damage, and we saw Atty fall.

The following update, the first portion of the GJW fiction, took a look at introducing the people onboard those mysterious enemy ships, and clued us in on a possible new threat to all the DB, the Collective. The Clans then, all with their own reasons and information, all traveled to Nancora, where they had found out Collective forces were located; meanwhile, Pravus had gathered his most loyal allies and declared the clans to be on their own. Still, Iron Navy spy ships lingered at Nancora to watch the battle, only to find themselves obliterated by the Collective's technology in compact superweapons.

Meanwhile, we left off seeing the clans manage to take down some of the Collective's ships and their major vessel with its own superweapon, the Braga — as seen in the Round I Fiction competition! — and make a push for Axio City, Nancora's capital. The Collective plan to strike back as Brotherhood escape crafts crash to the surface in the Badlands, and the still-watching spy ships receive intel on Collective leaders in Axio city from the Voice of the Brotherhood to pass on to their people.

We're going to see the conclusion of these events in the upcoming closing fiction from Wally/Sarin, and you can read about them and check out their artwork, background, and fiction on their wiki page..

So, what now? Well, I encourage you to check out the Combat Master's sort of "after action" report that talked about the ACC side of things and such, and also point you towards the newest Voice update addressing a series of competitions and some filler fiction to explore the Collective and their side of the War in The Collective Chronicles. Go make some Collective NPCs and tell your stories with them in the future! I'm going to be making a Cabbage Cart Guy myself, so bring it on. Additionally, in the spirit of sharing and War stuff, I thought I'd go ahead and share my fictions from the War, so here's Phase I's, which focused my NPC apprentice Ruka having to do the sabotage mission (while talking to his little brothers back home), and Phase II's, which had Satsi and some others crash and try to survive in the Badlands (while being concussed and snarky). Also, one of the GFX I was prouder of:

So, we didn't win.

And yeah, I know, but the thing is, it doesn't really feel like that, now does it? Not only did we still come in as the Second Clan of the Brotherhood, but we lost to our allies and equals in Odan-Urr, and they damn deserved that win. I'm proud to call them the First Clan, and I'm damn proud of how we all did. Not only did you beautiful shadicorns rock participation — special shout out to Grot, Qyreia, Tali, Kord, Warp, and Uji for participating in every Bin — you brought in Novae, you kept your spirits up the entire time, you helped each other endlessly and were relenthless in your drive, and you handled every single aspect of this event with grace.

I was pretty scared of this War, to be honest with you, because Arcona has had a legacy, and I had to be the Consul that upheld it or lost it. But it...like I said, it didn't feel like a loss. It felt amazing, watching all of you, competing with you, working with you. I'm so freaking proud. And you know what? I'm actually really excited for the next one, so we can kick ass and take names and have a chance to win that title back. ;P

It's good, my loves. It's good. Some of our individual members scored higher than entire clans. So many of you got medals and promos for your efforts. So many of you tried, and that was what I asked for.

You all take my breath away.

If you shy from the pain of it, then you rob yourself of every memory of the good, my friend.

Brotherhood News

Post TLJ World

So, The Last Jedi happened. I've heard plenty of commentary about loving, liking, or hating the movie. :P I enjoyed it immensely myself, but the important part is more how its relevant to us. Now that the spoiler ban is lifted, you're all free to talk about the movie or ask question of it freely. We saw a lot in there that could be cool or affect our system a bit, and the Voice staff (hi from your Stabby Praetor) has been working at intergrating some of those new, awesome display of the Force and updating some old powers and such while we were at it.

Read all about the new Post-TLJ Character sheet goodness in Atra's latest report! I'm not gonna say any more because I know some folks who haven't seen it, but just know that besides these changes here, our DB and Clan plotlines remain our own, and the stuff going on canonically in a GFFA doesn't necessarily affect us (not that you couldn't have your character reacting to it if you wanted to!)

Changes errywhere

There's been quite a few top-level shake ups in Clan leadership over the last couple months. In particular, I want to give two shoutouts, both to Turel and to Rhylance. You guys rocked your respective Consul terms, and while you're both very different leaders of very different clans, you both made better with your efforts and both were an honor to work with. It was my gift to serve by your sides.

Of course, that means someone had to take their places! Arch was a no-brainer moving up to Consul of the lighties, and after an application period, Rian was chosen as the new Taldrya head. Congrats and many thanks to both of you! I'm looking forward to working with y'all and watching what you make of your Clans!

On an additional note, our Grand Master released an update discussing the Star Chamber. Some temporary members of the SC serve terms, and Valhavoc recently retired from his, replaced by ye olde Bubba (who you may better know as Dacien). Thank you to both for your service. Don't remember what the Star Chamber is? Read up in the Covenant.

Tarentum: What is Dead may never Die

Unfortunately, some changes are harder than others, and hard calls have to be made for the long-term health of the club, no matter how painful. After the War, Sarin and co began seriously evaluating our dear ally Tarentum for closure, a process you can see discussed in the Grand Master's address. While Tar was eventually closed, her legacy lives on in all her members and all she touched, Arcona included. Not only are we now home to several former Tarenti, but we have had a long history with the Clan, and would not be who we are today without their influence in the past. Thank you and goodnight to Tar, who thrives in hearts and minds and will never really be gone as long as she's remembered. We raise a glass to you, my friends.

Clan News

Summit Shifts

As many of you will already know, I had the pleasure of introducing you to your Proconsul in Kordath before the War, and he's been doing lots of stuff since. Our Rollmaster, Timeros has grown increasingly busy with real life and so will be retiring from his position. Thank you to him, and all the love to our Journeymen and new members from different Clans.

Uji/Donny volunteered to serve as Galeres' Quaestor, and has since passed that title on to Q! Congrats, Red Qek, and thanks, Log. Aedile applications under Q are currently open, and he will be putting out additional information regarding them, including an end date of February 14th, soon.

I want to thank everyone once more, as always, for their service and dedication. We couldn't keep up this home without you.

Arcona Wiki Revamp Project + Selen Development Project

Stolen from Vic's latest Quaestor report: the Clan is still working on updating all of its Wiki pages. This work has been progressing slowly but steadily, however we could really use more volunteers to help out the current, smaller crew that's been tackling this insanely huge job. If you have any interest in world-building and want to help out not just your current peers, but new members who might join in the future, please contact Kord and I. Grot has been great to have on this project already, but we still need you!

Hand in hand with this, we're using the Selen Development Project, which Kord points out in his report to finally flesh out our home planet! Many of the previous two phases' entries have already been added to the Wiki, which you can check out in all its detailed and worldbuildy glory here on the Sinchi Ring page. As we finish Phase 3, we'll be updating and adding military bases, and then begin plans for Phase 4. I'm really proud of all of you and hope y'all keep enjoying having a hand in making our house a home! Er, rock a planet. Er, planet a...earth? Frak it, you know what I mean.

The Road Ahead

So, what now, for Clan Arcona? What comes next? In-character, months have passed as the Clan took her people to War, and during that time, Port Ol'Val was still piecing itself back together after its near destruction and Estle and Selen were still recovering from the plague and famine that had left the city tense and at the edge of riots. These problems have continued to fester, made all the worse by the distraction of the Collective and their propoganda and the lack of Arconan presence. Eldar's population is dead, and the planet is only useful now as a source of mining and natural resources for Dajorra. After the Resistance moved against Pravus and co. only to be interrupted by the Collective, Atyiru died, and the Clan had to face its new enemy under a new banner.

Last we left off, Consul Satsi was driving the Clan through the War to and on Nancora, and whatever the epilogue holds, we will return home bloodied.

So, what else? Well, we await more details on the wrap up of the War itself, but I can discuss some things in the meantime. Back during the War, I had debated releasing a short series of Arcona ficlets continuing our internal story/showing cruel war tactics implemented under Satsi. Just something for us to continue telling internally even if the larger updates were more geared towards the whole club that really leaned hard on our Dark path side. These ideas included things like:

• Gas masks become standard issue/required for all ops at all times. Gas weaponry is popular against FUs and cyborgs both, and is a common NFU tool, so is used against us and by us.
• Start interrogating people with the Force one by one, using Terror, Mind Trick, Telepathy, or any other torture application (can you say who needs human rights? Hypocrisy is delicious)
• Bombs in combat suits and space suits/on persons of anyone going onboard an enemy ship or into enemy encampment
• Mined bodies/corpses and mined high traffic areas found on Nancora
• EMPs. So, so many EMPs. Even if they can't short out cybernetics in our system, at least there's the factories.
• Release viral agents or infect the mortally wounded who must be left behind
• Gang war tactics? War crime tactics? Fear tactics? The Collective are heavy on suicide bombers and cybers, they don't care about their bodies or lives, don't have civvies with them. Possible example, take a Collective agent and Dominate Mind him into hurting himself, show the Collective that we can do it.

If this stuff sounds horrible and maybe a little too sensitive/serious to put into fiction, then that's because it probably is. I decided not to write these ficlets eventually on account of a) time management, war participation, school, etc had to come first and b) deciding to let things lie and not do an injustice to these topics. However, I still maintain that some of them, and generally ruthless tactics of their ilk, were standard operating procedure for Arcona during the War under Satsi. Whether or not your character followed those orders is up to you. Might give you all something to protest or play off of, even.

On a more technical note, I have a few announcements for you regarding our schedule, both for upcoming events and for my own Consulhood. Pay attention!

• We will be hosting a Brotherhood-wide Valentine's themed event in February. See: Arcona Presents: VD hosted by our tailed PCON
• In March, we will be running a cooperative interclan event with Odan-Urr to celebrate our alliance's three year anniversary. More details to come soon. ;P
• After these events, we will be looking to the fourth episode of Sins of the Past, which we intend to work on in the months leading up to it.
• By March 1st, we will have a new Grand Master, as Sarin's term expires February 27th. The process of appointing a GM will take place two weeks before that, and Sarin himself will give you more info on those proceedings soon, though you can see them in the Covenant at any time.
• I will be retiring in mid-February. Yes, that's right. Atty's on her way out, but just because I'm leaving the throne doesn't mean I'm going anywhere. I'll still be around as an Arconae advisor, an Arconan, a Praetor, and possibly a leader or assistant to other jobs, since I have this problem called needing to help. :P

Sins of the Past: On Hold

As mentioned, after Episode III: Revenge of the Hutt's conclusion back in the summer, we decided to put Sins on hold until after the War. You'll see an update and recap discussions on story and events in the coming months as we host other events, handle some summit changes, and whatnot. Prepare for Episode IV!

Dem Factions Tho

Reminder as ever for our ideological factions, different schools of thought that draw different people together and lead to certain goals and actions in Arcona. They're a useful little tool for sketching characters and thinking about how every Arconan "aligns" themselves.

These “factions" have long been developing amongst all our individual characters and in the stories we as a Clan have told, and they’ll be our device to further establish ourselves and develop now! They’re our boats to help us along in the fictional sea of the New Order storyline, its eventual War wrap up, Sins of the Past, Aftermath, everything from DB to BT level, and more.

They've been edited to be generalized away from any too specific characters, so hopefully that helps!

• Atty: Yes. Yes. Yes. No, you underestimate my power. You've known me for five years, scrublord, you know better ways than this. :P

Drae'leth asks, #asktheatty What madness plagues you that would drive you to commit such atrocities like putting ketchup in mac'n'cheese?

• Atty: the same one that makes me hate bacon with a burning passion.

Xenna asks, #asktheatty what happened to the elevator?

• Atty: Every now and then the elevator stops working while someone is alone in it. Sometimes the person just needs an extra minute to cry and compose themselves after a bad battle or a harsh meeting with a superior. Sometimes it's a technician who hasn't slept in forty eight hours and is suddenly unable to make their next shift by no fault of their own, so they get to take that nap while crews get the lift working again. Sometimes it stops eeeextra gently when someone is carrying their caf and sometimes all the buttons light up to distract a distressed child while their caretaker takes them to the hangar to join the other war orphans.
• And all the while, as if music is playing, a faint, "do do do do, don't worry, be happy" echoes inside.

Vic asks, But seriously: #asktheatty How do you see the upcoming change in the DC effecting Arcona going forwards?

• Atty: First of all, affecting. ;P Second of all, wellllll...that's a hard one, lol. I'm hoping the impact won't be too harsh, and that our next GM is benevolent and tolerant and puts up with our shit. :P We are a lot of awesome to deal with at any given moment. /me applies sunglasses.
• More seriously, what has me most curious is the fictional aspect of the changeover. I don't know how Sarin plans to handle Pravus' departure, and that's totally up to him — I will shame and slap anyone who insists he needs to change or kill or imprison his character for the sake of a plot. Your character is yours, and another person's is theirs. Respect that, always. That said, Arcona has a major grudge against Pravus along with COU and the Lotus and that is not going anywhere anytime soon, Collective or no. We'll be touching on some stuff for our March event, but more specifically than that, I can't say. It's not up to me. Whatever happens, we'll adjust, and we'll be victorious (because Arcona freaking Invicta)

Zuji asks, #asktheatty Hey, Satsi! What would you do to a Zuji with amnesia?

• Atty: With the added clarity said amnesia is "Don't remember nothing about clan life really. Stereotypical forget it all trope. :P"...oh geez, that's a hard one, haha. Not because I can't think of an answer, but because the answer makes me uncomfortable as a person — not that Satsi would share that feeling. Honestly, I think after everything Satsi has been through, she wouldn't be able to bring herself to manipulate Zuji overly much (there's no threat to her family here, so no need for extreme measures). Left to her own devices, Satsi would impatiently explain to Zuji who she is as far as Satsi knows, and probably cheerily and bluntly add the fact that her fiancee and Satsi have fun too. :P Otherwise, she'd just shove that one off on Kord. "Nope, not my problem, you wanna marry her, you deal." For Kordy's sake, she'd of course make clan medical resources available, but meanwhile, she'll be over here not giving a damn

Donny asks, #asktheatty - Satsi is clearly a different character from Atyiru in regards to how she responds to threats. How would Satsi respond to someone close to her being used against her either personally or in her role as Consul?

• Atty:
• "Justice is red," if you ask her. She would carve a path straight to whoever tried to conquer her and hers and burn their kingdom down. Preferably with everyone they ever loved and everyone they ever loved and all the bystanders and anyone who ever worked for them with it. She'd burn it all and die doing it with a smile. Protecting who and what she considers her own is all she cares about and God help anyone who gets in the way of that. I don't mean that as flowery "oh srs badass whoa dark" language — Satsi is only human, has no powers, even if now she has resources she can barely trust. But she'll fight. I mean it as in if her loved ones are in danger, either the person who made those threats dies, or she dies trying.

Donny also asks, #asktheatty - if Satsi was forced to ally herself with a member of the Dark Council to protect Arcona. Who would it be and on what terms?

• Atty: Morgan or Marick. Morgan and Satsi were dearest friends once, and would fight for each other to the end, even if neither of them give one damn about the DB or the Jedi/Sith ideals. But, their relationship has grown strained, and Morgan might not want to work with Satsi anymore, if only in the hope of sparing them both some pain. Marick, Satsi actually trusts more than most, because he doesn't use mind powers, and she sees in him a practicality and a ruthlessness that she really respects. Atty loved him, and for that Satsi would give the man a chance if he ever got cornered. If he wanted to work with her, she would accept. They both know that getting things done means getting bloody, and they both wash their hands clean at the end of the day. In my headcanon for Satsi's storyline, when she was undercover in the Inquisitorious, Marick recognized her but didn't out her — he never aided her, but he didn't out her. In her mind, she owes him one anyway. As for terms...Satsi wouldn't want any agreement that put her personal loved ones in danger or gave overmuch power to the DCer or DC. She'd actually be wary of Morgan for that reason because they and the Shroud already have trade and smuggling agreements through Ol'Val...any more pressure than that would disadvantage the clan, and we can't have that. She refuses to be an unequal partner.

Atra asks, #asktheatty in a perfect world scenario, with unlimited ability to direct all those involved with 100% compliance, what would be the circumstance, follow-up, and chain of events for an idealized future of Arcona and changeover to the next line of leaders?

• Atty: Sweet Jesus Admiral Ackbar, I plead the fifth. This feels like such a trap. :P Real answer, though: no. No because it is not my job, nor should it be, to have unlimited power in appointing a summit. Do I have preferences for my successor? Yes. Do I have plans for who will be in what spot down the line and who will be trained for leadership? Yes. THAT is part of my job. But being dictatorial isn't. :P Fact is, the next line of leaders are going to be working with each other, not with me. They need to select each other and settle into working with one another. And I believe in them and my summit, current and future, to do the best for our clan.

Kelly Mendes asks, #asktheatty will you ask yourself some sort of deep and insightful question and pretend I came up with it?

• Atty: Sure, why not. Uh. I'm literally Googling "profound questions" right now and deciding on "when did you last die?" because that seems nonsensical but also I get that it's trying to be metaphorical and probably means for me to ask myself when I last felt like I died either because the person I was ceased to be or changed so much that she ceased to be or because the person I became had become the new me and — you see where I'm going with this.
• So, uhhhh...When last did I "die?" I can think of such a moment, actually, but it's private in such a way that I wouldn't share here, so suffice to say the important part of the revelation separate from the actual details: I realized that something about me that I had been consumed by for a long time was just something about me. Just a trait. That is was okay. Not something abnormal, or broken, or like something in me that was missing or got damaged, like I was looking for. I was looking for damage, and missing that what I was looking at was just...what it was. Different, but okay. I realized that nothing was wrong with me, as I'd been obsessing over and stuck on and trapped in an anxiety spiral with for the last four years. And holy sweet whatever deity you believe in or science you know as truth, was that such a relief. So, here's a reminder, kids: if something is causing you stress, if something about you worries you, if you're thinking for some reason you're not good enough...take a step back and stop looking for damage and actually appreciate what's there instead.

• Atty: I'm pretty okay with two House identities, and more BT identities, and an Arconan identity...but if I for some reason decided to tear everything down and say "this is us now" then I'd probably go with "Men in Tights...in space." Because there is no piece of that that wouldn't be amazing and you cannot convince me otherwise.

• Atty: I mean...they could be. After she pulls out his fingernails with pliers to teach him that you don't touch what's hers, even if that happens to be someone she herself hates and would like to punch in the face (hi Lucine). No brain-chipping Arconans, Doc Doom. Especially now that you are one. (Now, you do sanctioned chipping, but not of the brain variety, and we call it "annual mandatory employee health evaluations".)

Q asks, #asktheatty Not taking the GJW end-fiction into account, what major fictional avenues might we see the Clan moving toward in the coming month(s)?

• Atty: I liked Kord's idea of burning this place to the frakking ground, that sounds like a Satsi plan. This place being the DB, and Arcona being the one to do the burning before going to go have drinks on a beach and forget about all this crap. But more seriously, we'll be looking at exploring Arcona's Lotus ties and our enmity with the Inq, our situation with the Lotus, the consequences of Satsi's War appointment, the consequences of Atty's reign, the consequences of Arcona's actions over the years, and how Arconans deal with all of that plus whoever succeeds Satsi and whatever happens with the DC and the Collective.

Xenna asks, #asktheatty is satsi more of a bunny or slipper person?

• Atty: Satsi has fluffy slippers shaped like mice because she loves rats. Unrelated, she calls her daughter "bunny" as well.

Aiden/Rhy also asks, #AskTheAtty what are your thoughts on instituting an Arconan cloning program?

• Atty: Depends what it's for, the lifespan and life quality of the clones, and the quality of the sample we'd be cloning from (willingly or not). Could be good, could go horribly. :P

Mirus asks, #asktheatty New year's resolutions question - do you have any major things you would like to achieve as Consul or on a personal level this year with the DB?

• Atty: As Consul? Retirement. :P Not getting CoJ'd in the weeks between now and then because "what're they gonna do, fire me?".
• Personally? I want to continue working as Praetor for the Voice, learn more Photoshop skills and join the Herald staff to help them out, and generally write a lot (both of Satsi being angsty and fluffy, and of my gaylien sons being angsty and fluffy). Additionally, I want to spend some time learning and creating artwork for Selen and the Dajorra system. Landscapes and stuff. I really liked this piece I tried to do of the Estle City "skyline" for a particular pic:

Jon asks, #asktheatty why was the old clan flagship name disbanded? :P * Atty: Because if we were going to keep a ship name in memoriam, I felt our rallying call to be better suited :P thus the Invicta II as our flagship, with its counterpart being the Will of Our Lady (because you guys submitted a LOT of ship names related to Atty/Shadow Lady).

• Atty: She'd certainly never desert him if it could be helped.

• Atty: I'm secretly really jealous he got to do this first because I feel like Washington so bad at this point. :P I'm not sure there's anything that can compare to that song, but my next-closest would probably be something I've long loved as a sort of "goodbye but not" song. Guilty pleasure because it is such a cliche graduation kind of song and, yeah, but hey. I've always really loved Give Me Strength by Snow Patrol. I cry like Padme getting her heart Force-choked. It really fits how I feel about Arcona and all the people I've met here and my time leading here. So, there you go. Cheesy as Wisconsin but fight me, cheese is ****ing amazing.
