It had been a quieter time for Clan Arcona. Since House Galeres had headed to Hapes, there had not been much of note happening in or around the Dajorra system. The new Nighthawk team was functioning well, whilst the more established units continued to excel.
Andrelious J. Inahj smiled as he signed the latest batch of Journeyman reports. Many were doing well, with Adam Bolera the latest of three recent Knighthoods bestowed by the Arconan Rollmaster.
Let's just hope Marick doesn't decide to risk us all on another sentimental errand, Inahj thought as he sent the reports on to Legorii and Marick. His own relationship with the Consul was now strained thanks to the Hapan's decision to risk Galeres on a mission to save his beloved Cythraul. A mission that had seen the Darkest Night nearly captured.
Andrelious was a kinder man that he had been. But thanks to the Consul, he had nearly lost all that he held dear.
One day, Marick would pay.
We are less than 3 months into 2014, and I'm pleased that we have already achieved 3 members being granted their Knighthood. We also have others well on their way, so I am hoping for at least a dozen new Knights by the end of the year. So far, congratulations to the following:
All three of these guys have worked hard to obtain their lightsabers. Good work!
In this section we are going to highlight either an upcoming Journeyman, or a recently Knighted one in hopes of sharing insight into the process Arconans go through.
This time the report highlight is Verse Theris. Verse joined us and was assigned as the only Journeyman in Arete, a team that was otherwise filled with veterans. Despite this she gives as good as she gets, and has already proven herself to be among our best writers. She was also one of the first new joins to be affected by changes to the promotion guidelines, but took the changes in her stride, still easily obtaining her Knighthood.
Q. How did you find out about the DB?
A. I found out about the DB by word of mouth, in real life. Many of my friends were current DB members, so they talked about the club a great deal. After a while, I just had to see what all the fuss was about! I am glad that I did.
Q. Were the e-mails you recieved helpful with helping you get started?
A. I was very glad with all of the help I received starting out. In addition to providing helpful links that got me started on working towards promotions, the Rollmaster and others extended a welcoming hand and became points of contact for questions I had and more detailed assistance.
Q. Did you feel like things were ever moving too fast? Like there was too much being thrown at you at once?
A. I did feel like things were moving a little bit quickly at first. From navigating the website and wiki, to learning how to use IRC, and then to joining and participating in competitions (I joined during the Dark Crusade!), I had to really think on my feet. That's why it was so great to have folks helping break it down for me step-by-step so I could get started interacting with my clubmates and having fun.
Q. Did you feel pressured to rush through the Journeyman Trials, or did you push forward on your own motivation?
A. While I received plenty of helpful tips and reminders during my Trials, no one ever put a time table on me to pass the Journeyman Trials. I was glad for that because I was interested in producing quality contributions to merit promotion, not just hastily rushing through the requirements. Eventually I was motivated through the ranks by myself because I wanted to get the requirements out of the way, so I could focus on activities within the club that I was more interested in.
Q. Was there ever a point where you felt held back or demotivated to try and keep working towards DJK?
A. During my time passing the Trials, the Promotion Guidelines changed a couple of times. This held me up a bit, as some of the work that I had done to count towards the requirements had changed and no longer counted. However, I was not set back by terribly too much time, and I knew the Promotion Guidelines were changed to make them better for future Journeymen in the club. So those were only small hurdles along my path.
Q. What do you like most about Arcona so far?
A. I enjoy the camraderie between my Clanmates the best. If anyone is having difficulties, or needs help on a project, it seems like another Arconan is always there and willing to help out. Even when I was just an Apprentice, I never felt like I had to wait until I was 'accepted' into Arcona, and truly a member of the Clan. As soon as I joined, I was warmly welcomed by Arcona.
Q. What advice do you have for new members going through their trials?
A. Look up the Promotion Guidelines early on the Wiki, and develop a plan of what steps you might want to take to get promoted. Many things will be important in the DJB anyway later on, like making a wiki page, so knock those ones out first. For the rest, look to the examples on the Promotion Guidelines wiki page, and see what sort of activities interest you. Even if those activities might not necessarily be the quickest to complete, you will enjoy them more, and that's why you joined the club in the first place! Be sure to contact your Rollmaster to discuss if you want to do something to count towards promotion that isn't on the list, as they may be able to make arrangements.
