The fires of war were dying down. While many buildings across Fort Blindshot still required repair or complete reconstruction, the tendrils of smoke that once dotted the base’s skyline were gone, along with the many dilapidated hulks of destroyed Mortisian tanks. The relatively few prisoners were quarantined at the Borea detention facility, and the casualties were processed and removed to hospitals or cemeteries as the situation required. There were a lot of angry families, and even more people in the AAF that were doing their best to keep their outrage in check in the wake of yet another conflict on their soil. They were winning, sure, but to what purpose.
Someone had to pay.
At least that was the thought running through Qyreia’s head as Captain Bly read off the next name and she stepped over to the next award recipient. They were all lined up on the flight line of Blindshot’s starport, while literal thousands stood opposite, watching and listening while the awards were passed out.
“Zig Kaliska, for heroism under fire…”
“Hello again,” the Zeltron said quietly as she squared up with the Battleteam Leader who she’d shared a weak beer with only a few days before, sitting on a supply crate not far from where they were standing. There wasn’t much time to talk, but they could manage something.
Now, replete in her Mandalorian-styled armor, she looked the part of the captain of the Voidbreaker that had cryobanned a large swathe of the enemy around the starport. With her helmet off though, she was all smiles, and seemed rather pleased to see the Zeltron.
“Afternoon, ma’am.”
“No need to be quite so formal,” Qyreia said while an adjutant handed her the award box. Inside was a little silver starburst with a gray ribbon hanging from the bottom. “I wanna say again that you did good, and I’m glad you made it out alright. Next time we’re out, I’ll buy you a proper drink.”
“Thank you.” Zig swallowed back a knot in her throat, seeming just a little nervous. “Just so you know...”
Qyreia brought her hands up, fixing the pin on the Zyggerian’s shirt collar. “Hm?”
“…awarded the Silver Nova.” Bly turned from the award citation and from his position at the podium, turned toward the awardee. “Thank you for your service, and best of luck to the next captain of the Voidbreaker, who has some fairly unique shoes to fill.”
As with the other awardees, once Bly finished reading the formal order of the award, the audience erupted in a flurry of applause. The Consul’s hands lingered a moment at Zig’s collar, not quite sure how to process what she just heard. The adjutant gave her a nudge, and she was brought back to the moment to complete the pinning. Once the red fingers were out from under her chin, Zig’s flushing face looked downward, away from the Zeltron’s gaze.
Qyreia couldn’t find a way to be upset at that. She put a hand to Zig’s cheek and tilted her face back up so they were eye to eye. “You can explain later. For now, congratulations. And thank you.”
Zig might have blushed harder at the touch, and how the fingers crossed her cheek as the Consul pulled away. In either case, her chest swelled a little bit more with pride while the applause for her finished its round. There were other awardees. They’d already done all the AAF troops proper. This part was all Arconans.
First, the voices of the people did not go unheard. One of the most consistent pieces of feedback when it comes to unit events and plot is a more robust fiction update system between the events. Here we’ve tried to touch on everything, from member highlights from the war, to what’s going on in the Houses, to what’s coming up for Arcona. Additionally, as we continue to build the fictions and push events, Houses may find easier ways to incorporate what’s happening in the Clan and club, just as we at the Clan level are going to take what the Houses are doing and mold it into effects on the greater Dajorra system. Sometimes this will be subtle, sometimes not so subtle. It’s a bit of an experiment, but one that we think you might like.
My apologies to anyone that had a cameo that didn’t feel their character was portrayed properly, or didn’t make enough of an appearance. Spotlighting folks in fiction isn’t an easy thing to do across a wide audience, and even more with unfamiliar characters. I will do my best to improve as we continue to carry on with this crazy experiment.
I wanted to lead with the fiction, but in case you haven’t noticed: I’m back, schuttas! Kinda. Mostly. I’m not getting nearly as much done as I’d like in actual club activity, writing fictions and drawing pichurz and the like, but I’ve tried to make up for it in beating your summiteers with a sti-
What? I’m not legally allowed to say that? What do you mean ‘self-incriminating’? Fiiine.
My legal team has advised me that I am “providing teambuilding guidance” to the House and Battleteam leaders. They gave me a whole packet full of buzzwords to use. Not enough profanity, if you ask me. That aside though, we are working steadfastly toward getting more #stuff out to you. Some of it we can handle, but some of it we need help with. Here’s the low-down on what that looks like as of now.
We’ve put out feelers for laborers that want to develop the wikis and help with the competition workshops. To date, me and Atty haven’t received any e-mails from volunteers for either thing. And that’s fine. As the title “volunteer” implies, it’s volunteer work, and it’s not required. This does, then, come with the caveat that the next time an event rolls around, the wiki may not be up to date, and frustration over as much should be tempered with that expectation..
If you find you’re interested, send us an e-mail! Yes, I know Discord is the way of the future, but the platform fails where an e-mail doesn’t. Tell us what you want to work on, be it as a teacher/developer in the competition workshops, or as a wiki diver and fixer-upper-person. From there, me and Atty will get you at your proverbial workstation and we can get rolling on the fun poodoo.
Something that fell by the wayside for a time was House Discretionary Funds: a stipend of sorts derived from a percentage of the credits allocated to the Clan generated by your activity. This allows Houses to purchase discretionary forces for your private armies to help in your sub-units’ ventures. Now we’re starting it’s back, with all the glorious credits from a hard-fought WAHR.
If you want something for your House summit(s) to buy, you have to let them know. They in turn will let me/Atty know for us to purchase the goods and organize into the right spots.
Here you’ll find the majority of news, plans, and a dose of OOC fiction stuff.
We are officially booked through the end of the year, with more tidbits likely to drop before, during, and after. These include the much-mentioned competition workshops, Arcona Armed Forces development project, and the rebooting of the Selen Development Project. We’re still getting used to planning this far ahead, but we’re already looking at events for next year like our famous club-wide Arcona Valentine’s Day (AVD) in addition to more Clan-internal, plot-driven competitions.
Other things we’re still parsing out are the start time(s) for the competition workshops, the Arcona Armed Forces (AAF) development competitions, and possibly rebooting the Selen Development Project in the process.
Nero asks…
Qyreia: They can so they do. RukAtty: "We used to say something like that to practice our Basic…"
Tali asks…
Qyreia: Get the Selenian “gods” off our doorstep, hit the Children of Mortis’ supply lines in our corner of space, and unite the Dajorra system under a single banner.
RukAtty: He supports his Shadow Lord in all she does…mostly. The above mission statement at least. And nobody will likely see him disagree with her.
Qyreia: Uhh… I’m honestly not much of a pool noodle person. More of a spaghetti or linguine kind of girl.
RukAtty: I don't have a favorite pool noodle and if one more of you people asks my husband if his favorite is the green one, you're getting mandated anti-sexual harassment training.
Qyreia: No. Hell no. And frack no. (OOC: I generally don’t hop on the new shiny things in the stores. I like Q as she is, and she’s IC quite happy with not having evil crystals on her person.)
RukAtty: Absolutely not. (Similar here. Wasn't any gear I wanted, and Ruka would rather TK them into space).
Qyreia: My answers to this aren’t suitable for a PG-13 audience.
RukAtty: Going home to Cor and the kids. Sometimes, just up, somewhere. I like the spires. Trees are better though.
Qyreia: Buy things to make us more awesome. Continued improvement and reorganization of the AAF is high on the list, followed by planetary Possessions.
RukAtty: finger guns Delegate it to the people who know ships and things.
Archian asks…
Qyreia: Q has been growing her hair out, and while I don’t have any particular art of its current length/style, there’s nothing else “new” planned for it for a while. If anything, it’d be back to her old haircut.
RukAtty: Ruka be Ruka hair getting ever longer. Maybe it's due a trim. Ask Cora.
Qyreia: They’re usually unwanted by the rest of the galaxy for a reason. Just look how the caxquettes thing has worked out for us.
RukAtty: No zoos or meangeries on the asteroid. Too much resource strain. You can talk to Cor and the Selenian Commonwealth about something on planet, though.
Q again: Or not.
Qyreia: I don’t know what this is, but the implication means my answer is “no”. :p
RukAtty: N…no.
Qyreia: I laugh all the time. Just usually at inappropriate moments.
RukAtty: flat stare I laugh when I find something funny.
Qyreia: You are free to do that as much as you like, so long as you pay for it with your own credits.
RukAtty: …but that's so…sticky…everywhere. Like, in places. You don't want that. Trust me.
Qyreia: Again, you set it up, you can do whatever so long as it’s not illegal or unethical. RukAtty: sighs
Qyreia: Uhhh… pass. RukAtty: Meow.
Qyreia: Ruka is green. Grass is green. Therefore, Ruka is grass.
RukAtty: I— can no one come up with a plant joke I haven't heard before, kriff's sakes…
Qyreia: I’m not much one for pets. But I know some people that are.
RukAtty: Not if it can't fit in the house.
Qyreia: Yep. RukAtty: Yes.
Eleceos asks…
Qyreia: I’m not saying Q has been taken for the personification of a deity or demon on a few planets, but she might be one amnesia-inducing blow to the head away from beating the Old Gods by being the New Gods. And yes, that is plural on purpose.
RukAtty: Not by replacing them, ay, crovja! And them's security secrets, stop asking.
Qyreia: So I had to do some digging and listening just to answer this, so you better appreciate it when I say ‘If Everyone Cared’ is probably my favorite from them.
RukAtty: Hahah me too though it'd been a long time. Someday, How You Remind Me, Saving Me, etc. It's either If Everyone Cared or I'd Come For You though. You may expect I had the latter on a lot of my old playlists for characters.
Qyreia:
RukAtty: Still really bold of you to assume she hasn't already. In fact, I'm pretty sure it started in the festival RP when she got to formally meet Rein.
