Fiction Update

The Citadel

Selen, Dajorra System

Shortly after the incident at Zainab

A week since the snows of Tunca had frozen the air in their lungs, since the blood seeped into the powdered snow. A week since the screams stopped. At least the real screams. Plenty enough still rang in their ears as they slept. Ate. Showered. The ghosts of recent memory haunted the afflicted Arconans at all hours.

Of course, some were less perturbed than others.

Rhylance paced with the closest thing to glee that the Chiss scientist had ever shown in front of his fellow Arconans, red eyes glued to a datapad with the latest reports of crystalline shipments from Arx, occasionally panning the active window over to catalogs of caxquette samples — understandably, all mere pieces of meat and bone rather than any whole corpses. Certain Galerians had seen to that particular desecration of potential research material. He was particularly curious about the ovipositor variants, and the effects sustained by Lottson, but likewise to little avail in the way of specimens. Still, it was better to have something in the face of the carnage the Houses waded through at Zainab than to have the gods’ monsters whole and hale on the steps of the Citadel.

The Rollmaster in question seemed to have enough energy to make a showing for the debrief, though despite her almost overly-bubbly demeanor, she had a crutch leaning against the back of her seat. Of the Houses, Qel-Droma had its top-three present, quietly watching the Consul pacing and keeping conversation to a minimum. By contrast, across the conference table, Galeres’ sole attendant quietly steamed in her seat. Sera was still recovering from her extensive injuries, leaving Qyreia alone at the table, as angry as she was worried for her headstrong Aedile.

“Is there anything of particular interest, Lord Rhylance?” Cora said from his proconsulate seat next to his husband. “Something that can be better clarified?”

“Quite the contrary. This is quite intriguing.”

TL;DR

  • Arcona received a bunch of the spooky crystals that were the focus on Dandoran from the Brotherhood headquarters; plus a bunch of dead caxquette bodies
  • Rhylance the science-Chiss wants to study all of it, but most of the leadership says “eff that”
  • Rhylance decides he’s going to study it anyway, and throws up a metaphorical “deuces” on the way out, leaving the Summiteers to decide the next Consul among them
  • Ruka embarrasses the frack out of Qyreia by kneeling next to her seat at the conference table; general sentiment supports, though not exactly a “unanimous vote” in a formal sense
  • Q accepts as the Shadow Lord (because “god knows I ain’t going to be any sort of ladylike with you schuttas”) and, once everyone but the Ya-irs are out of the room, her first act as Consul is to fire the co-Proconsul and Ruka’s husband, Cora

Look forward to more updates and more drama during and after the War!

Great Jedi War

The Children of Mortis have purged their ranks of erstwhile spies and, unknown to the Brotherhood, developed an insidious new method of crystal-infused ascension. Seizing an opportunity, the Children have launched a surprise assault on the capital systems of all seven Clans. In the vanguard, impossible Force-twisted abominations and gravity-defying crystal asteroids have established beachheads in each system. Still reeling from the Collective’s near-destruction of Arx, the forces of the Dark Council are unable to respond in strength. For now, the Clans are on their own.

Theaters of War

"A theater is the place that we'll be doing business with these fracksticks." — Consul Qyreia Remember that vote we had about what to do with those crystals? Here’s what our choices lead to: Theaters and Research Tiers.

Possessions Updates

One of the background things happening is updating the Arconan Armed Forces (AAF) and other Clan Possessions, not only getting things organized, but also beefing up the formations with tanks, transports, and artillery. All of this is rolled into one big combined-arms configuration with numbered units for easier identification. Given the Arcona Expeditionary Forces’ (AEF’s) importance in so many wars, they were the primary focus of this revamp.

For clarity, the Legion and Regiment numbers were selected based on previous tracking mechanisms for the AAF, so the numbers will not be sequential in some areas. The new organization looks as such:

AEF Ground Forces

AAF 1st Legion - A combined-arms Legion of four (4) regiments. Each regiment comes with at least one (1) battalion of artillery for fire support.

  • AAF 1st Regiment - A mechanized infantry regiment. The infantry battalions each come with a company of tanks, while the foot soldiers themselves come with repulsorlift gun-trucks.
  • AAF 3rd Regiment - A motorized infantry regiment. Focusing less on vehicle firepower, this unit instead is focused on delivering a large number of infantry to an objective using armored and shielded transports. Comes with a reconnaissance battalion.
  • AAF 6th Regiment - A light infantry regiment. This unit is designed to provide bodies and blasters to the battlefield, able to put the boots into tighter confines than their vehicle-borne brethren at the cost of mobility on the ground. Comes with a reconnaissance battalion.
  • AAF 8th Regiment - A combat support, or “heavy munitions” regiment, it is comprised of two (2) battalions of Special Missions troops for sniper, recon, and combat engineer functionality; one (1) artillery battalion designed to augment the other regiments as needed; and one (1) heavy artillery battalion for providing a massed knockout punch wherever the Legion needs it.

AAF 4th Legion - A newcomer to the AAF, this Legion currently only has (1) regiment, completely transported by LAAT/i gunships that provide the fire support that the ground-based units get through artillery and tanks.

  • AAF 11th Regiment - An airborne regiment comprised of three (3) infantry battalions, plus one (1) “deepstrike” battalion designed to operate independently behind enemy lines and divert resources away from the front.

Fort Blindshot, as our “theater of war”, has seen gradual development over the past few years. While it doesn’t have a fully mapped layout, it does have a partial map on its fully-fleshed-out wiki. Now that Possessions has planets and ground defenses though, we’ve gone through the steps to get it added to Arcona’s assets on the roster. You can find it under the Dajorra System > Selen from the Clan Possessions Page.

The TL;DR for Fort Blindshot is thus: it’s an island military base, designed to sustain a permanent presence DDF force, as well as host other AAF units for training exercises. The southwestern third of the island comprises most of the living accommodations, amenities, and constructed facilities. The eastern third is open terrain used for large-scale maneuver exercises. The northwestern third contains the caldera of a long-extinct volcano, containing urban training areas and covered in large swathes of jungle. The island as a whole is bristling with defenses, designed to repel approaching enemies from sea or sky, and destroy anything lucky enough to get a beachhead.

We’re not trapped on the island with the Children of Mortis; they’re trapped on the island with us.

Final Notes

Hopefully this helps with any initial shock or confusion that you may have. It’s completely natural. Happens every year. But like always, the butterflies in the stomach will subside, and Arcona will drive forward into the fray. I’ll see you all at Blindshot, Shadesworn.

Sincerely,
