Hello, my darlings, lovelies, and dears of all sorts. It’s been awhile since my last report — I took an LoA to tackle school projects, papers, and exams, and then had moar projects and exams. More hecticness ate up May, and now over the summer here I’ll be vacationing and moving just weeks apart…
Good thing I’m a epic freakin’ Jedi. #swag
Seriously though, I have the good fortune of one helluva summit to hardly miss me, and all you gorgeous kids to be beautiful no matter who’s here and what the day’s like. Good, bad, whatever, we take it and we make it through with each other — ohana at its best.
But enough of all that. We’ve got a report to tackle, and a big one! Lace up your shoes and hit the ground running cause this party ain’t waiting and HERE WE GO LET’S DO THIS THING!
We’ve had a lot of things, big and small, hitting the newspage or coming from the DC offices of late. Check this run down, give some congratulations and thanks, and when I tell you to do the things...you do. The. Things.
First up on the docket, our beloved Headmaster of the last two years running, Bubba, had elected to retire, and following some beautiful thanks from the entire SA staff, we saw him off. Applications were opened, and ultimately we now welcome our friend and former Tarentum Consul, [Farrin] as the new Headmaster! You can check out his introduction and see a few of the things he’s been up to, like appointing new professors and releasing his first report!
That left TAR in need of a Consul, of course, and after applications, Frosty was selected. If you’re curious, check out his own first report here.
You’ll find your typical goodness in Stu’s latest FIST report, but knowing some of you guys are in love with Overwatch, I wanted to point out that the staff is running a competition to determine its popularity/sustainability as a sanctioned DB game. The Division, by the same process, is no longer a supported game. You can check out the details linked above.
The Herald staff released a survey with Vyr’s last report, asking all about your ideas on Clan and House colors and styles, and anything else you might want to see out of robe designs in the future.
Help them and yourselves out and TAKE IT HERE YES THIS IS ONE OF THE THINGS I’M TELLING YOU TO DO! <3
Our very own Warp/Rulvak is running Brotherhood-wide competitions for or based around the game Destiny until the end of June. You don’t have to own the game to participate in all of them, so check the events out here, spread the word, and show some support!
Why am I covering this? Because it’s pretty major for our allies, and because it could be pretty major for us too, given the way things are going. #ARCOU #ohana
Alora’s last Consul report introduces us to Kiast, a world with a toxic, insane deathtrap surface whose people live in castles and cities in the sky, or as captains and smugglers and crewmen of ships and spaceports. You can also see their new fiction associated with the move to keep up with them. Remember though, as it stands, nobody knows where our allies have gone — we just have to do our best to prepare aid and contact them as they set up communications with us...whether you’re of the interest in helping, like Atty and some others, or you’re more of an Inquisitorial mind…
In Evant’s most recent report, he announced two openings in the Voice office for Magistrates as Arden and Xen retired. If you’re interested — and I know several of you who are — go read the application details and get those apps in! Remember, your summit is always willing to help you get an application ready, so don’t be afraid to ask us for thoughts or proofing!
Go, my darlings! Go!
In one of our Combat Master’s latest reports, we took a look back at a year in review since Wally’s appointment, the revamping of the Character Sheet system, and the relaunch of the ACC in general. It’s pretty cool to see, and you can check out all the details here.
These last weeks, though, have seen some more big changes and project releases, including rebooting the Martial Arts system and a tournament just for our Brotherhood’s youngest and brightest.
As you can see covered in our CM’s most recent report about the Martial Arts system revamp, some forms are gone, some have been reinvented or renamed, and some were converted into Feats. I highly suggest coughcough that you go read and then read the updated wiki page, as well as being sure to check your Character sheet because it may have been invalidated if you had a MA form listed that was removed. You also might want to do so anyway because some of the forms have been altered (example: I liked Teras Kasi specifically because it was meant to be used against Force-Users, but that’s not listed in the description anymore. I might instead check out the new “Mando Core” ‘cause it’s like Krav Maga.)
Also, there’s coverage on NFUs fighting FUs, GIFs in there of people parkouring or doing glowy shizz with their sabers, so you should be entertained through the wall texts, I promise. :P
Hand in hand with this are two new exams in the Combat Studies hall, one for Martial Arts and one for Lightsaber forms. Wally has just released his most recent report (and I mean not five minutes ago, hell yeah timing) talking about these courses and the ACC and the SA in general, so check it and them out!
As is also mentioned in said report, the ACC staff is looking for a new Judge! See the relevant section therein for details, and as with the Magistrate jobs, if you're interested, APPLY!
If you’ve been around the newspage at all, you’ll have noticed a Journeyman ACC tournament going on, brought to you by Alaris, Wally, and co. Four of our own (Ary, Juli, Adem, and Zuji) participated, and I’m proud of them for fighting well. Now it’s down to the final round between CSP and CNS. You can go watch and show some support for the Brotherhood’s darling kids here in the post on finals coverage.
In May, we officially completed the first Episode of the Sins series, and saw quite the dramatic changes in the scoreboard over its last stretch. Ultimately, our dear Katicorn took first place with 15 points, with Kordath close behind in second and Timeros in third (still love you though, Ernor). Congrats, guys and gal!
For the individual events:
Below you'll find an excerpt of the final plot update, and can view the rest RIGHT HERE YES HELLO on Discourse along with the rest of the current Sins story.

The Citadel, Estle City
Selen
Dajorra System
“No other explosions reported?” the blindfolded Seer inquired.
“None,” replied Braecen.
“And the warehouses in Korda that were hit? The wounded?”
“Emergency responders have all left the scene as clean-up crews report in. Styx is overseeing them. All civilian casualties have been taken to medcenters as you ordered, my Lady. Our own injured were few, and recover in bacta tanks as we speak. A few of our people are still missing in action.” Keys tapped, clack-clack-clack. “Young Knight Sang-Kalinor is stable, yes?”
“He was burned badly and lost limbs...but nothing I and bacta cannot attempt to mend. Once he awakens, perhaps we can finally have some more answers.”
“Should I call Argona?” The dark-haired, violet-eyed Kaeth paused. “Either — well, any — of them?”
“Ashla and Bogan, no, Starbuck. He needs rest, not an interrogation. Zakky and the others have plenty to apply themselves as is,” the Shadow Lady responded, distaste at the prospect evident in her tone. She swiveled her sightless gaze to her other Quaestor. “Alright, then, and what of our databases, our security? Our funds?”
The Erinos gave a half-shrug. “Not quite robbed as blind as—”
“Celahir, dear, much as I enjoy the jokes…”
“We’ve been set back,” the Qel-Droman went on more seriously, fingers flitting over the datapad in his hands. “Particularly in munitions when those warehouses went up. It looks like they might’ve accessed several of our databanks too, and the DIA is still investigating what intel, exactly, might’ve slipped. However,” he offered with a grin, “we managed to contain most of the damage and kick those di’kuts in their teeth before they could do more.”
“Uji?” The Miraluka turned to her Scion, who stood beside her at the head of the table, neglecting his own seat to her right. “Enemy movements?”
“The DDF has successfully routed this Lorden’s Horizon-class Star Yacht out of Dajorran space. They are in pursuit now. Officer Marinus is due to report shortly, as are Timeros and Sashar,” stated the Sentinel, his narrow eyes fixed on the holoprojections of Korda and Estle City that hovered above the meeting table. His tone was cold steel. As if Pravus’ tyrannical madness wasn’t enough to combat, now they suffered this attack as well. The Proconsul’s stance remained calm, but his gaze was constantly flickering these days, belaying a mind now consumed with strategies, defenses and all manner of war.
“For it to truly be that damnable Muun behind this debacle...” ground out the blue bulk of a man nearly too tall and wide for his chair, his maw-toothed helm on the table before him. Though Wuntila had calmed in his time away, his promise still carried conviction. “It is an insult. I shall crush him.”
“Yeah, and, uh, for those of us who ain’t been at this kark for ages, who the ‘ell is that, again?” called a voice from the door. Kordath, a towel slung over his shoulders and a finger stuck twisting in his ear, stepped inside, his hair still dripping.
Continued here…(Because linking twice wasn’t enough)
We learned a lot in conducted EI — things like not just organizing plot updates ahead of time but writing them out too, running events with more focus, etc. We want to learn more, though, and we as a summit especially want to hear from YOU, my darlings. What worked? What didn't? What would you like to see better in the upcoming episodes? Do you WANT to see the upcoming episodes?
LET US KNOW HERE BY ALSO DOING THIS THING!
“That freaking crypto.”
I know this was a source of frustration for a lot of you who put your heads together and came so close. Here’s an explanation, courtesy of Terran:
Seriously, though: it appears we made the Cryptography either too difficult or too illogical to figure out. In that vein, we'll be revisiting the puzzle events going forwards. While I'm still planning on making them more difficult than your average DJB puzzle (i.e.: not something you can simply pop into an online tool and get an answer), we'll clearly need to be careful in designing them. In the future, we might ask for one or two volunteers to try and solve them ahead of time for participation points before the event goes live.
As for the Puzzle in Episode I, here's a brief breakdown on how it worked. Feel free to email me or hit me up on Telegram if you want more details or don't understand.
The overall puzzle used a modified version of a Tap Code (or Knock Code). It's a very simple cipher that's most known for having been used by US Prisoners of War during Vietnam, but it has its roots in the Polybius Square. It uses a 5x5 grid of letters using all the letters of the Latin alphabet except for "K", which is represented by "C". Each letter is communicated by tapping two numbers.
Ordinarily, the first number is the row of the square and the second is the column. So tapping out "WATER" would be "5, 2 - 1, 1 - 4, 4 - 1, 5 - 4, 2".
How does this apply to the squiggly lines in the puzzle?
Each unique style of squiggle (there are five) represents a number, as seen below.
Using this, we can see that the "taps" are: 13 43 24 41 51 33 / 42 34 / 21 11 42 44
Now before you rush off and pop this into a solver, note that in order to prevent that from working, we reversed the order you use to look up the numbers. In our cipher, the first number is the column and the second is the row (which differentiates it from essentially every Polybius Square-based cipher and renders all the online tools useless). However, by referring to the Tap Code Table above, we can see the message being spelled out is that "Lorden is bait". Which, if you read the final plot update above, you now know. :)
Hopefully knowing this helps those of you who felt discouraged that they couldn't find the puzzle's solution.
Complicated, we know, but we wanted to try something different from your typical Sudoku. Some of you loved it despite the difficulty, some of you were turned off right away. Have feelings one way or another? Scroll back up and TELL ATTY IN THE SURVEY MMKAY.
All that said, we are currently planning on running the second episode of Sins of the Past in July, and closing down other internal Clan competitions at that time. That means that, if you have a competition idea you’re just dying to present and run, write it down, write out the details, and ask your summiteers for a good time to run it. June is open season on internal comps currently, but we also already have quite a few running, as you’ll see me mention in a second here. It’s always a good idea to plan competitions and events months out, and so too can happen with your own comps! Want to reserve a spot in August? Come talk to us. We’ll hammer out details for our plotting and planning.
Speaking of competitions!
Our creepy sweet Rynmaster recently posted one of his competition round-ups, which you can check out here. We have a lot of competitions going on right now, including in the Clan and otherwise. Take the time to check some of them out:
And finally, as a general note, I want to real talk with y’all for a second. We (as a club, but also pretty hard as a Clan) have been B-A-D bad about competition extensions lately. “Whaaaat? Atty, why is that a bad thing?” you might ask!
Here’s the thing, sweetlings. Your actions become your habits, and we’ve all fallen into the habit of just looking for a comp extension if we don’t have an entry ready by the deadline as a participant, or if we don’t have as many entries as we want as the organizers. We’ve fallen into the habit of being lazy.
You do not get to do everything you want to do. That’s a fact of life, and sometimes, you might think it shouldn’t translate to the online Star Wars club where you go to escape and have fun geeking out...but fact is, it’s still true. We have competition and project deadlines and such that we don’t get to just ask nicely about, kiddos. A War (yes, Skarbles,, I’m saying THE WAR) waits for no one. A Vendetta or a Feud waits for no one. If you do not prioritize your time to certain things, you will be left behind. In one of the rounds of GJWXI, I saved my Multimedia entry for last, and when I say last...I mean the last forty-five minutes while I did other comps, other things, whatever. It shouldn’t surprise you that I didn’t make it. I budgeted my time badly and I lost myself and us points for it.
But that’s not the end of the world, right? It’s just a Star Wars club. And besides, I’ll do ALL the things for the War, cause it’s special and/or you’re asking me to. Right?
Wrong.
Our actions become our habits.
The reason I’m stressing this, dears, is because I’m seeing situations where people used to extending just don’t finish their entries, leave points on the table, and end up losing big events important to them. I’m seeing people extend competitions into oblivion hoping for more entries. I’m seeing people subscribe to ten different things while stressing about twenty and crying that they can’t seem to get thoughts together for one of the five fictions they’re doing — but it’s okay to pile on that stress because, hey, they have time, the comp will just get extended. We are assuming that we get these passes. And that’s the wrong assumption to make.
This isn’t a blame thing, my dears, and it’s not a tragedy, but it is important. We’re here to have fun, but we’re also here to support and better each other, because that’s what families do, and we tell each other when we see things going off the rails. Is it necessarily bad to extend a competition once in awhile at the Clan, House, or BT level, especially with extenuating circumstances? No. But it is bad if it becomes a universal habit and starts to breed its own culture.
So I’m ask-telling you, dears. If you organize a competition, do not extend it. Time it and hype it accordingly, and if you come to the end and only have one or two entries, accept that. If you subscribe to a competition, do not ask for an extension. Budget your time and prioritize your interests. You might only get an entry in for one of the three things you want to write for. Accept that. We need to start correcting ourselves now, before our habits become too ingrained or hurt us more than they help in the end.
And that’s all I have to say about that.
Before I dive in to the freaking swimming pool of amazing that is all your grace and achievement, my loves, I want to take a moment to offer some acknowledgement to the promotion of a new Elder, Montresor. Being admitted into the Elder ranks is a high honor that is hard fought and earned, and as they are events noteworthy to the Brethren as a whole, so too should we note them. Congrats!
That said, I hope you know how proud I am of all of you, and everything each and every one of you accomplishes. It’s one of my great joys as your Shadow Lady to compose these sections and see (hah) again all that you’ve done.
Now go on, find your names, feel good, and be damn proud yourselves.

That’s all for today, my dears! While I’ll be a bit frantic in the upcoming weeks, I’ll always be here all the same, and at the end of the day, we always have each other — that’s just how Arcona do. Otherwise, you can expect another Clan fiction update soon, but for now, Atty’s off today to spread some sunshine, watch the Warcraft movie, and say, as ever,
Arcona Invicta!

Love the report, my teacher of rainbows!!! Congrats to all who were promoted and rewarded! Let's all do the things! ^^
Love the explanation on the divisions within Clan Arcona fictionally. I think this will help members start to understand where the lines are being drawn and how the story is shaping. Great report, Atyiru!
Good stuff, I did the thing too.
Woo! Same game though I love the new water starter, can't remember the name off the top of my head
So. Much. Report. Time to step up my game.
Great report! Dat gif game is on point. Thanks for the advertising. :)
