DB Wide Updates

Lots of little and big changes and updates these last two months, so here's a quick review broken down by office/domain!

Gaming News and Pew Pews

The Fist selected a new Magistrate, so congrats to Turel for the appointment and thanks to Koji for his work. Blade also got selected for SWTOR Tribune, so congrats to her! Gaming has seen a lot of nice changes with the introduction of Casual Gaming, and Drac is reviewing and updating the GMRG and wiki policies to better reflect this. It's still in progress, but it's happening, and we wanna remember that now we can play just about any game we like together for credit! Many happy beeps, and thanks for the evolving thoughts and actions with these changes from our Fist and staff.

Fictiony Things

The Voice office is hard at work as its new Praetor and Magistrates settle in, and Xen himself has been equally busy both spearheading the changes to the ACC that included removal of the Judge position, faster judgement turnaround, and boiled down feedback, and managing all his Voicey duties.

Of relevance to many of you already, it was decided to remove the Grandfathered Species tag, allowing all remaining Species in our list, after a few removals and modifications, to be playable as new characters. The ability to suggest new Species for inclusion has also been opened to allow even Legends/Non Canon Species so long as there was still sufficient information to make a Species from, sufficient interest (at least two people) and checking the boxes of some other basics.

The policy update has already gotten a few new Species proposed and approved, including Nagai, Firrerro, and Feeorin. If any of you have one you might like (Selonians? The big whale things?) that fit into the basics for Species approval (yes, they do need four limbs, sorry Hutts), then see about reaching out to any of us for help writing up some suggestions or to #fiction-chat to look for more interested members.

Go to School

Ciara recently hired a new Lore Magistrate, so congrats to Xantros on that! The SA is keeping up a lot of competitions and activities like the monthly decathlon comps and regular trivia in the #trivia channel on Discord. These are very easy activities you may not normally think of, and the decathlon is participated in simply by being subscribed while doing your regular SA activity taking courses that earn 1 academic credit. Be sure to check them out sometime!

In addition, they're currently running a select series of competitions called Mysteries Explained. These comps are focused on exploring various “mysteries” or unusual subjects from Star Wars lore (canon and legends) each month. Check them out!

$20 Thrift Shop

The Regent has been busy, appointing his new staff, including Praetor Thran and Magistrate Teebu. Congrats to them! Their staff and Anubis are working additionally on Artifacts and Weapon Upgrades and have just launched Dominions for both Clans and the DC.

What the waffles are Dominions, you ask? Well it's a fancy way of saying that they've codified our star systems and planets (our domains) into Possessions. If you look under the Arcona roster, you'll now see all of Dajorra's major bodies under the Possessions tab! It looks like this:

Pretty nifty, huh? We'll be working slowly on some wiki updates to help reflect this and other things. No timeline there. It's rather backburner work.

Additionally, the Regent has opened the Celebration Store for the holidays. What's that mean? It's a shop that only opens sometimes and has cool specific items. You can hear more in a message from Walladore:

The Celebration Store is now open. It has some pretty exclusive items that might not be easy to get for newer members, but maybe attainable for some of the members who've been around for a while. This store will be open until January, but then you might not see it again until May the 4th most likely.

The most popular items, one that aren't just "flavor" tend to be:

Disks that are used to "bounce" blaster bolts around corners. I wish I got to use these more but they're really cool: here ~(4K)

The weapon that Dryden Vos uses in "Solo" that I think are just super cool: here ~(10k)

Vambraces that are probably one of the more popular items in the club. They are a rare utility for multiple weapons, and mimic what Sabine uses in "Rebels:" here. They're actually somewhat affordable too and there isn't a weapon in the regular stores like them ~(30k)

Beskar Armor, the only armor we really sell or have available that is true beskar and can block lightsabers. It's expensive but something you can't get in the regular stores: here ~(150k)

But, if anything, this is a good motivation to (even if it's only one comp a month, which takes 10-15 minutes) you can earn credits over time. Also, as RP activity increases, you'll get credits for completing in RPs. But, this is how the club's economy works: you get more credits the more you do. "Do" means the basics of competitions or SA exams. You can work towards leadership, which also gets a salary, and leads to merits and promotions which also grant credit-bonuses. For the newer folk or those who hit JM4 and might feel stuck...please let us know if we can help you out somehow.

Port Ol'Val, Dajorra System

Beats droned and cobalt light flashed.

A dense crowd of traders, entrepreneurs, criminals, debtors, creditors, smugglers, and everything in between packed the room. His slicked black hair shone sapphire under the shine of intense neon blue lighting, the long ponytail bobbing as he hummed along to the thumping music that penetrated every bit of space in the room. On stage, a girl with a long dark ponytail streaked in blue that was almost as good as his sang and danced.

This place was great. Done up just like Club Vertica on Nar Shadda, and that had been one of his favorite places to be, back when he could go there without anybody trying to kill him. It wasn't as good but there were still plenty of drinks and casino tables and Twi'lek gals. The fighting ring was great for Sage. And for Aru. The Boss had already won three fights, and Aru had made some nice winnings off of his brother each time.

Granted it wasn't nearly enough to cover the tab or the losses at sabacc but he was still a winner! Nobody won like A-Aru Law and The Boss!

"Nobody wins like Aru and The Boss!"

"THE BOSS and Aru!" Sage yelled, laughing and slamming his bloodied fists on the table. He nearly knocked over his milk and Aru's precious third…fourth…sixth…ty, heh, nines drink.

"We're the best!" cheered Aru back, grabbing and draining said drink and toasting to one of the waitresses. He winked over his shades. She totally winked back. Her smile was just upside down.

Things were great.

And then a green shadow fell over the table like the party pooper he was.

"KAKA!" Aru exclaimed, trying to reach out and throw his arms around the Mirialan, but Ruka only sidestepped him. He was carrying three boxes. Whoa. "Hey, wow, how are you doing that? You got a third arm I don't know about? A tail? That's spicy!"

Ruka inhaled.

"I have. The Force," he enunciated. It was a little hard to hear him over the music.

"YOU LOVE ME AND THINK WE'RE BEST FRIENDS? THANKS, I KNOW! Hey, our ship name, Zig told me about those, it should be Aruka. Like, Aru-Ruka, except we gots thirteen…three, same, letters already!"

"No," the party pooper deadpanned. Something floated out of one of the boxes and dropped down in front of Sage. It was a pack of crayons and a pad. The big Zeltron laughed again and started drawing on it, using some of the blood on his hands. "Listen up, ay. Ay. Listen. You listening to me, Law?"

"Yeah, yeah, what?"

The Mirialan dropped the boxes on the table in front of the Aedile, one after the other, the third on the floor. Aru peered in, expecting presents. It wasn't presents. Just his stuff. Wait…his stuff?

But then Ruka took something else off his belt, and the Human's eyes lit up with tears.

"ALANA! QUEEN!" he gasped, crying, as the Mirialan dropped his precious blasters into one box. "Oh my gods, Kaka, you're giving them back? Did I do good? What changed your mind?" He picked up his weapons, clutching them close like the person he couldn't.

But Ruka Meanieface McGreen Uggo wasn't smiling. He stared Aru dead on. "Nothing changed my mind. I told you that if your ass was drunk on the job again while you were responsible for these people, these guns would go into an incinerator. That was the best I could do then. Well, here's one better for you now I'm damn Proconsul. You're fired. Your stuff's already cleaned out, and so are your quarters and all your access kriff. Have fun drowning in your own vomit, and stay the hell away from my family. And," here the Mirialan paused, and leveled a look at both Aru and Sage, "if you two bring anything illegal into this Clan or get your asses in trouble doing something you weren't ordered to do, there will be consequences."

"Hahaha!" Aru laughed, wiping at his eyes. "Oooh, man! Kaka, that's great! I didn't know you could try to joke. I mean it's not as good as me but it's a start, look at you!"

"This isn't a joke. You're fired, Law."

"Ehhehe…heh…heeeeeh…" The Human's face fell, and his gut clenched. He looked around with quickly growing anxiety at the crowd that was fun before and looked more dangerous now. "But, but. I can't be fired. I, uh, owe some debts."

"Oh, I know."

"But! But!" Desperation clawed at him, and an idea occurred. He stuck a finger out and cried, "You can't fire me! My Mistress gave me this job! She'll be mad if you take it away!"

Ruka's brows furrowed. "Mis…you mean Alaisy? I don't really give a damn about Tir'eivra, who isn't here, and I'm not done." He produced a datapad from under one arm and held it up towards the Human to see the screen. "This is a notice of your last pay for the month of Aedileship being docked to cover the damages sustained to both the Voidbreaker and the Phantom Complex offices by your pet bantha. This," he kept scrolling, and oh, hey, that was a lot of numbers and pages, "is a bill due for everything that wasn't covered by that, which is most of it. This is a bill for the 'remodeling' of those same offices to make room for the bantha and for the janitorial salaries that went to cleaning up after it. This is a summary of your debts owed to the Clan for the misappropriation of House funds for personal use, and this is a legal notice documenting the misuse and theft." He paused in his scrolling. "We could buy a new capital ship with what you owe alone."

"...I mean that's pretty cool, right—"

"Stop. Talking. I'm still not done." The scrolling resumed, and the Mirialan's tone turned so cold the temperature might have dropped. Or that was just how much he was sweating. "This is a notice that we've taken sixteen separate sexual harassment complaints about you in the last three months alone, and this last one is a restraining order. Believe you me, I will personally enforce that one if I have to, so don't make me. Don't make anyone. I know you know that any of the women in this Clan can and would put you in the hospital."

"I've always loved some nurse cosplays," said Aru with a disheartened smile to try and reassure himself.

Ruka's expression tightened, as if suddenly, every one of his brain cells had tried to commit suicide, and only half had succeeded. He inhaled. Slowly.

"Ashla and Bogan I am. So glad I'm firing you. What did Vasano see in you?"

"What did she see in you?" snapped the Human back. But Ruka didn't look hurt. He just sighed.

"Kriff if I know. Goodbye, Law. Sage! Be good."

"I. Wait. Pl-please!"

"No. How many times do I have to say this to you, ay? Your actions have consequences. This is it, Law. Tell me you understand what I just told you."

Aru's shoulders slumped. Behind him, Sage kept coloring, using up the red crayon. The music played on and the light made everything blue like Alana's barrel. The Human's eyes focused on the barrel, reality crushing.

"Maybe this is a sign I should go find you, huh?" he whispered to it, and then looked up, reaching out his arms hopefully. "Kaka, hugs?"

The Mirialan glared at him, and he retreated, dropping into his stool. The Proconsul turned on his heel and stomped out of the bar.

And the beat went on and on and on.

Timeline and Event Calendar

November: A quiet month in order to plan for holiday times and outline the next Clan event. We did it! Survival, yay!

December: Originally, this was going to host the next major installment of the Arcona vs so called Gods event, with a wintery theme as trouble brews on Selen's coldest continents, with a long run time to accommodate the holiday season essentially from late November to late December. However, after some planning and polling and self-evaluating, we've decided to go ahead and run it fully in January for its five weeks. There are MANY comps all over the Brotherhood right now to participate in, and we don't want to add to that saturation or stress during the holidays. Don't worry though. There will be RPs and fiction updates leading into the event to keep things interesting.

January: The Clan event in full force. Good things.

February: A light month likely to feature the traditional set of VD comps, but could be continued downtime. More on this to come. The summit will be planning.

That said, I'll be running some RPs in the Discord channel to tide us over: a bit of training fun for one thread, and later in the month, a precursor to the event. Come join us!

Communications Platforms

And speaking of…as you well know by now, the DB has fully transferred over to Discord. Remember that you can check out our previous report to find full guides we've made for accessing Discord, sunsetting Telegram, muting chats, etc for the transfer process. A few of us will still be hanging out on Telegram for non-club reasons. Arcona Chat has been left in place, now Arcona After Hours, but the Arcona Summit, along with the rest of the Clans, Society Chats (Fiction, Gaming, Art), and the club leadership (Dark Council) is on Discord. This is where we will be focusing our attention when it comes to events, competitions, memes/giggles, and now RPs.

I know some of you who have joined the server say you won't check there, or have too many other Discord servers, but I encourage you to pin the DB server and go ahead and mute most channels except your favorite ones!

• I feel attacked by this question. Insert meme here. Bread emoji. Upside down smiley face.
• Okay, that aside, and here's a warning for personal stuff in a report — Honest answer? I'm okay some days, and others I'm less okay, and sometimes I'm not okay, but we keep on keeping on, my birb friendo. I don't have the output or bandwidth I'd like to have, but I'm learning to adjust to and accept that somewhat. Working as a barista during the holidays be goin', though I'm trying to make some time to look for a new job to help myself get out of that. That in and of itself can be hard, because even an hour on a day off, even half an hour, to actually look…that's too hard or too much. A lot of days it feels like all I can do is come home, sleep, maybe make or pick up dinner, and leave the laundry in the dryer another day. Being online here or doing some things that are fun and distracting can be easy, as can going out of my way for friends or the like, while other types of activities or productive adult things can be hard. But that's mental health for you, and I'm putting myself a little bit TMI on blast here just to remind everyone that your best, on any given day, whatever that looks like, is your best. And that's okay. You're loved, and you're enough. I'm learning that myself (yay therapy), and it's good to be reminded. You're enough. <3

• So there's a story behind this one but the thing is that Jax, one of my chars, would be addicted to custom shirts and have a bunch like the linguistic nerd he is learning about the internet and memes from young people, like Basic Thot because he…really loves Basic, the language, etc. Anyway, what would he give the summit…uuhhhhhhhhhhhh. TO GOOGLE.

• From the holonet, and he has absolutely given Kob his credit card by now and said "take this from me."

Archian asks, Do we plan more weddings soon? Any more lessons of sign language for NF users? Will Ruka help Archian at his creatures farm? Will Ruka agree for making center for endangered species, and which creature population would first to reintroduce?

• No more weddings immediately that I know of. Except the one Atty is planning. Because she is always planning.
• I'd be happy to see more sign language in general! For everyone! But they can only learn it if they want to. Jax knows SW sign language, but he can't do all the motions anymore with only one arm.
• Ruka would agree and help in that Cora would help and do anything for animals and love to set up an animal sanctuary on Selen, or any other reservations. Proconsul Blue Cinnamon Roll would be happy to work with any willing Arconans and especially the Selenias themselves to do this. Proconsul Party Pooper will support hubby's efforts. He will not go near the birds though.

Edema asks, #AskAtty when are the decorators going to finish? Has the budget been passed for new road signs? Why does my room smell like wet wookie and feet?

• The decorators will be done when they're done, don't rush them.
• Budgeting is probably the one thing Ruka, a guy who's been managing paying bills and a mortgage and kids since 10, can actually do, so…sure. He'd support signage. And other practical things. And not a menagerie of animals on an asteroid.
• What you do in your time is your business, boo.

Wally asks, Why?

• God, Karen, you can't just ask people why.

Reiden asks, Have you eaten today? Do you require cocoa?

• Thank you for asking, Reilet, I have eaten today. And I always require cocoa. It is the milk and chocolate that sustains my lifeforce and quells my rage, that the universe may survive another day lest it succumb to my wrath under a great tidal wave of a thousand-throated yapping, angry Chihuahuas.
