Crucesignatis Imperialis: Reporting In

header

Welcome to my second report as BTL and first report as BTL of Crucesignatis Imperialis (cru-chuh-sig-nate-iss, imp-ear-rie-ahl-iss),

By now I have contacted every single member and all of us have discussed thoroughly the new name of the battleteam: Crucesignatis Imperialis. The name means "Imperial Crusaders" in Latin roughly. Some of you may wonder why the Latin? It's mostly to keep it in line with our Clan theme, and to establish some naming rules. Imperium, Excidium, Tacitus Athanasius, Executor, Imperator, and our long held DJB titles (Consul, PCON, QUA, AED, etc.) all have Latin/Roman origins. Since we are a redux of the Galactic Empire (in Xen's image), we therefore are going in line with this model of naming.

Some raised the question of what we would be known by the population and the military. Members couldn't see the people saying "Crucesignatis Imperialis" every single time we were mentioned. I believe that with input from the members and within our future fictions that we all write involving the BT, we will come up with words on our own. Much like Excidiacs came from Excidium, or Fwec came from our CSP Run-Ons as an alternative swear word, a more common use name may come from future populations. For now, and forever officially, we are Crucesignatis Imperialis.

What might a member of CrucSig do in their day to day life?

The question of our theme came up in our group conversations as well. I came up with a list of potential day to day activities we might have in the Clan. This is not a catch-all list, nor it is something we all do. It's a list of on the fly stuff I came up with:

  • Arrest disloyal citizens
  • Judge Imperial trials over disloyal or resistant citizens/enemies of the state
  • Purge Imperial enemies from colonies and systems
  • Police the bureaucracy for internal enemies and dysfunction
  • Root out and destroy embedded opposition in the military
  • Infiltrate and destroy organizations and governments from both the inside and out
  • Spread the good words of the Emperor and of higher ups within and on the borders of our current and future Empire

Furthermore, it is my hope that members of all different types can find a way within our organization/BT. By helping members find a foothold fictionally, I'm hoping to sculpt the BT for new members in ways which they may not have conceived of before. So without further ado, I present:

Existential Crisis Simulator!

How will one work within the system with my path or character? I may or may not fit into this new BT image? Every report I will be focusing on two disciplines (one FU, and one NFU) in order to speak on the subject of how they fit in our BT. This report we'll be focusing on the Shadow and Scavenger disciplines.

Shadow

Initiating stereotypes: So you may be wondering, "I'm a Shadow. I go around and sneakily do stuff on my own or in large groups. I disappear and pretend to be others. How will I fit into this public group of loyal citizens that basically become public figures of sorts when 'concealment' is my middle name?"

Crucesignatis Imperialis is a public organization, but that doesn't mean everyone is a public figure. Crucesignatis Imperialis will become a household name, but not the individual members. In fact, the individual members have almost total freedom about how much information is revealed about them. They are agents of the Empire. Dek Ironius was a politician and used to being in the public eye, which means he's more likely to want the attention. You might not want any attention. No one pretends to be us either. If they do, it's practically a death sentence.

On the flip side, we work with thousands of people whom we don't see all the time and neither do they see us. It's the reason most people probably don't know the names of the people on their local school boards, or the names of their local judges (maybe some do, but not all). Because they are fully in the public eye and have little choice to lead secret lives and yet many people do not know about them. The secrecy can be embedded in your job as a member of the BT.

On another flip side, this power could be the reason why you are feared. People know of you, but never know if they are talking to you or another faceless bureaucrat. They never know if you're hidden in plain sight or around a corner. Concealment and sting operations with those powers are effective tools for engagement. How you use them is up to you.

I hope I have helped solve your potential crisis.

Scavenger

Initiating stereotypes: You might say to yourself, "I appraise valuables and junk and fix stuff. I repair and scavenge for things on my own and attempt to make some credits off the findings. I work in lower rungs of society and don't give a crap whether my skills are needed in your crusade or not. How do I fit in?"

I may have taken some liberty in that to say "lower rungs of society". The name scavenger may bring up thoughts of dirty human being sifting through garbage dumps looking for used tires and old equipment. However, these skills reveal another aspect that basically throws that away. Not only do they have the skill of speedious evaluation, but strong ability to fix things on the fly. These skills can be useful in tricky situations or when confronting people using or selling illegal goods.

Scavenger discipline makes for the best know-how person of the underworld. Their skills cater to that aspect where everything has value, especially the black market. And since we are a police force of sorts, knowhow of these activities will aid us in the future.

They also make excellent scouts. Being able to survive is beneficial, and to be able to change to different circumstances is extremely helpful for an organization that might have to suddenly strong arm a trader in an outer system area or in one of our potential colonies.

Overall, scavengers provide a skill that most of our usual members may not strive for, which means their demand will be highly valued. It doesn't mean flock to this discipline, but it doesn't mean stay away from it either. Scavengers will always have a place in Crucesignatis Imperialis.

Competitions

Obviously, Excursion is going on right now. This is a Clan event that will lead into our new Clan Dominion (planets, moons, sun, etc.). The Consul report details these event going ons. As for the BT, we have a new event of our own. It's simple with simple competitions to either get through quickly or to do in your spare time:

Wildfire Revolution

This is an event for Crucesignatis Imperialis. For each competition you submit an entry to you get points. If you place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd you get more points than just the entry points. The person with the greatest amount of points will get a special, informal title (along with fourth level crescents, and fifth level crescents from winning the individual competitions).

While Clan Scholae Palatinae finds a place to conquer, we need to establish ourselves in the fleet. Before we can do that though, we need our own origin story. These competitions will help define that. The winners in these competitions will help define our story in the short run. Future competitions will further define the story.

Here is the competition:

Lastly, I would like to have another piece of input from you all. You'll notice the lack of a gaming competition in the above episode. Mostly because with the exception of one of you, I have no idea what you all have in terms of gaming rigs and such. So here is a survey for you. It's only 4 questions and should take less than a minute of our time:

Glory to the Empire!

Commander Dek Ironius II

Great report Dek!

Thanks, Xen :)

This all sounds awesome and made me instantly request to join the battle team. Been trying to figure out a new direction to take Kor in but been seriously stuck for quite a while, think this is the opportunity I've been waiting for.

I'm so happy to hear that, Kor :) I saw your CS and was happy to see such an interesting direction you've taken your character in. Fits so well with what we want to accomplish here.

Great job Dek! :D I'm excited to see how this BT grows!
