I have been absent for the past week and for that I apologize. I was recently retrenched and decided to take a week off doing anything work-related. I am back and fully recharged, so I'll be making the most of my spare time here and IRL while it lasts. I am still most reliably reached via email ([Log in to view e-mail addresses]) but also make the occasional appearance on IRC and Google Plus.
As I alluded to in my first email, we are not an Old Folks retirement home. I expect everyone who wishes to continue to be a member of the Disciples, and everyone who may wish to join, to be active - whether you're earning Clusters, working on staffed positions, participating in competitions, whatever, I expect one tangible thing every month. Those who do nothing will be removed. Anyone who wishes to join the team may contact me and CC the Summit and we’ll have you added.
These are how I intend to advance this team's fictional development. There are several opportunities out there for those who think of them, and I will be creating them. Most of these I will turn into competitions of some sort, but there are other opportunities that I have in mind that are less rigidly structured.
I do not like or agree with our existing motto, so I've changed it to represent what I feel are the core values of this battleteam. I’ll explain them a bit further so you can hopefully understand where I will be coming from as your Tetrarch.
At our core, we are a battleteam that is focused on more “Consular”-esque activities. These involve diplomacy, healing, research and protection. We also offer ourselves in support roles to the House, for example, Nathan is a technical and mechanical genius (though this may be changing over the next week). This does not mean that there will be no combat; sometimes aggressive negotiations will be necessary as even the best laid plans may go astray. Sometimes there will be internal disputes which the members of the Treaty of Menat Ombo will need investigated or handled by the Jedi. However, we are not a group for primary fighters - Knights of Allusis form the military branch, Strike Ooroo form the covert operations branch, and we run support and diplomacy.
Through discipline, we find strength. I’m not talking about muscular strength, but the strength to resist our enemies, to stand up for those who need help, and to persist in our tasks until the job is done. We don’t stop just because we’re tired, or it’s difficult, we see things through.
At our core, we provide care and support for others. During times of conflict, we heal the wounded and establish field hospitals, during times of peace we ensure that those who need our aid are taken care of.
Peace and diplomacy, ultimately, are about exercising and testing patience. Negotiations and agreements may seem long and tiresome to the other teams, but one of our primary roles is to engage in diplomatic relations on Odan-Urr’s behalf; there are a multitude of different clans and cultures on New Tython and Haven, and if we are to succeed in our struggles against the Dark Jedi Brotherhood, we shall need allies.
The major House competition, Return of the Light, has been completed and it was certainly epic in its scale. We have liberated New Tython from the Mad King, Cy Thuron, who is now dead. What does this mean to us? As members of the House, it means we now have a planet we can once again call home. It also gives us a lot of opportunities to update Wiki articles and create new ones as part of Turel's major wiki project. Contact Turel if you'd like to contribute to his wiki project.
From a House fiction perspective, it closes off our fictional chain, which began a couple of years ago with the Pillars of Menat, through the Bastions of Knowledge, the Fall of New Tython and the Renewal of Hope.
As Disciples, it means that we have a planet to help heal and rebuild, and a message to deliver. Haven was settled by the refugees we evacuated during the Fall of New Tython. Now that the Thuron Monarchy has been defeated, the Jedi must return to Haven and provide them with the good news - their home planet has been liberated, but how will they react to this?
Now to applaud some cool stuff.
Kaira has earnt 2 Clusters of Fire!
Adeodatus has earnt 2 Clusters of Ice!
Kah has earnt 1 Cluster of Ice!
For their help in beta testing the new ACC, both Sanarai and Adeodatus have been awarded Dark Crosses!
And most importantly, for exemplary service, Sanarai has been promoted to the first level of the Equites. Welcome to the EQ club, Sanarai!
I am working on our own storylines, and am satisfied with my drafts for the time being. There is still work to be done, but I plan to launch my first wave of competitions over or immediately following the weekend. For the most part, in line with our focus on diplomacy, support, healing and protection, a lot of our competitions will involve fiction, forums and the wiki.
We have two members competing in round 2 of the current Fading Light event, Kaira and Sanarai! Kaira is competing against Marduss and Sanarai is competing against Raiju. I wish you both the best of luck, and look forward to seeing how your battles turn out!
House level competition to create some of the wiki content for new colonies on New Tython, including our Mon Calamari, Wookie, Bothan and Geonosian allies.
And where would all our diplomacy be, if we weren’t able to teach? Another House level competition, involving a fun lightsaber game. Highest score wins!
HOU Comedy Series - Turel’s “Personal” LOA
The Comedy Series continues with a 500+ word fiction explaining the real reason for Turel’s leave of absence. Have some fun with it, as comedic value is one of the primary criteria.
A long-term trivia, held over IRC in the House channel every Friday night at 11pm GMT, which is 6pm EST or 8am Saturday AEDT if you’re me. I suck at trivia anyway, but feel free to join in the fun and earn a few Legions of the Scholar along the way!
The June Iron Man challenge has been issued, and it is trivia. This is conducted via the website, by subscribing to each week’s individual competition. Be warned: this is a timed event.
Our current membership:
