Gathering Darkness: You should get that Mole checked out?
The next Chapter of Gathering Darkness is out! Have a look over the plot as it will be very useful to those of you working on those Co-Op fictions. Also, it will of course be eminently helpful for those participating in the current round of competitions.
And what exactly are those competitions? Well, first is a design competition for the Grey Paladin Organization.
Next up is another fun little Flash Game, where you are chasing after the Mole (insert ominous music here).
Last is an interesting little competition where you try to calm Karufr by designing some sort of song, poem or inspirational speech.
Don’t forget that there is also an ACC and Gaming competition on-going throughout this event, meaning there is plenty for everyone to do!
Don’t know if I’m coming or going
It’s been a fairly hectic weekend for me, and things are going to be a little topsy-turvy for me the next few weeks. There’s a lot of things going on RL that needs my attention more so than other things, so I won’t be quite as attentive to everything as I normally am, and may have to drop things and go at anytime. Just remember that I have very capable (normally :P) assistants in Dru or Zoron, if anything comes up and I’m not around
All the SA?
Well, it looks like Howie is making up for lost time, having taken a large swath of courses this past week. Even yours truly has gotten into the action a bit.
As a little reminder, if you haven’t yet then please try passing the Leadership Rewards course. Not only is it useful, you will also be helping Taldryan win something super-duper great. (the superness or duperness of any such reward is not contractually binding :P) But seriously, take the course and help the Clan. It’s win-win all around!

Do you want to be a leader in the Clan? How about a Quaestor? Do you think to yourself “I wish I was like Halc?” If you answered yes to any of those, then the position of Dinaari Quaestor is open and applications are still being accepted (you have until the 29th to apply).
This position is open to anyone in the DB, so if you’re reading this report on the news site, and not in Taldryan, then you too can apply! I mean, who wouldn’t want to be in the same room as myself and Yacks?! :P

The Pazaak Tournament keeps on rolling, and it looks like I’m the only Taldryan left? I shall avenge you all! :P
Star Wars Commander is a new iOS game (and hopefully coming to Android soon). If you like Clash of Clans, or similar games, they’ll you love this. I played it for a bit, and it’s an interesting little distraction. An Imperial Squad has already been made for the DB, so join up if interested.
The MAA has updated some medal tiers and schtuff, so have a looksy at his report for all the details.
Words and Context - A Halc Rant
Some of you may have noticed that the title of my last report changed a couple of times and contained a few more...colourful words. It all revolves around a bit more censorship from the DC and push-back from some of us. Basically, words such as “whore”, “bitch” and “pimp”, are not exactly words that should blow anyone away, especially in the context that they’re used.
A lot of this began because someone people didn’t like the word “Whore” being used in a rec for Shadow. Now, anyone who knows Shadow also knows how we joke with him, so using such a word in a rec for him makes complete sense. Again, it is a word being used in an appropriate context for the person we are speaking to. I used the word in my report subject initially, but it was changed (without my knowledge initially) because having such a word in the topic is “not appropriate”. Of course, my report is only for those that I command and for no one else, and anyone who wishes to view the report has to specifically ask to see everything on the DB site. It is not public. But alas, that doesn’t matter.
Recently, we had title such as “Bryar Pimp” and “Bryar Bitch” removed. Again, in context, these titles awarded for JO tournaments run by Taldryan made sense and it was an “in-joke” between the people running it and no one had any qualms with it used at the time. Apparently, it is now a bad thing.
I understand that a certain level of decorum is required in the club, but honestly, I cannot for the life of my figure out how words such as this, used in the context that they are, mean anything to anyone outside of people being offended for the sake of offense. This is the internet in 2014. Have we not yet moved passed this point? We’ve had members being called “a stain” in comments, pictures objectifying women posted in reports and fiction showing a woman being dominated plastered on the main page. I am not condoning or condemning such things, but want to point out some of the hypocrisy being bandied about. If you're going to whitewash the club, then you may as well ensure all content is up to whatever standards you currently adhere to.
There are a number of issues needing work in this club. There are meaningful changes the DC can and should be making. However, censoring words because they don’t feel comfortable with them (but, you know, blood and gore is a-OK!) is probably not the best use of their time. As they like to say, we are adults and should be treated as such. And I am pretty damn sure adults do not tip-toe around such words. Focus on areas that truly need your attention. Ask people around the club what needs to be worked on and I’m pretty sure “bad words” would be very low on the list. Allow your members to enjoy themselves without you breathing down their necks telling them what words they can or cannot use. Be leaders and LEAD. Censorship is not leadership.

Also... I was given the title Grand Whore before 90% of these people even knew how to use the internet to find porn, so I feel it should count as being grandfathered in :P
However, it is amusing that the Dark Jedi Brotherhood is trying to become the one carebear place on the entire internet :P

Was led here by Howie, was entertained. To answer the rhetorical question, I need to know, will there be neutral 3rd party supervision if I ever end up in a room with Halc and Yacks? Or... are they my adult supervision?
Also... Shad indiscriminately participates in competitions just to acquire more medals despite being far beyond the point he actually needs more of them. I'm not sure I could think of a more appropriate title. :p ... also I'm not even in Taldryan but it is known across the land. We speak of it in children's books and fairy tales in the Cocytus System.
Ranty, ranty, ranty.
I agree with Halc's statements (surprise, surprise). The very fact that fiction written by the DGM about dominating a woman - let alone dominating anyone, for that matter - is not only plastered on the news page, but is celebrated by the entire DC, DS and vast majority of the Brotherhood, only to have those very same people whine and complain and go out of their way to "fix" the wording of another member's work because it's offensive, makes me want to step away from this club. I mean, there must be a form of conduct, right? Or is that subject to whoever has the biggest stick to say, "yeah, no, I don't like that, take it down"?
If so, than that certainly isn't the type of club that I want to be in. I'm not upset by the fact that the wording had to be changed. I am upset that it was changed without the consent from Halc, despite there being no formal rule set in place... and on grounds that it was offensive. And if it was taken out because it was offensive, then I'd like to make a complaint about several things that I find offensive in this club that I'd like removed. Or do I have to be in a higher seat to see any action taken on those complaints?
All in all, this hypocrisy leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and I really don't like the vibe that comes with it. I'm sure any of the DC members who had a say in changing the title of the report will tell me how little I know of the word, "hypocrisy" and how that doesn't even apply, yada, yada. It is what it is. But as a member of this club (almost 7 years, woo!), I will say that I do not like the conduct that was used regarding the title change of the report, and I think there should be something said by those who made such action.
