Emissary 1.5: An Unexpected Reboot
(No, it's not Obi-Wan. Like the goose, I am a rebel.)
Welcome to my first report as Emissary. Under the circumstances, I am as surprised as you are this turn of events.
Like Bubba said, we don't know what's going on with Qormus. I sincerely hope he's okay and that he returns to us soon, so we can go back to "where's Qormus?" being a running joke instead of a serious concern.
I'd also like to thank Qormus for doing a lot of the initial setup work for the latest incarnation of Emissary, including providing the roadmap that we're using for our projects.
With all that said, I'd like to thank Bubtra (I'm experimenting with giving GM/DGM celebrity couple nicknames, please leave your feedback in the comments) for the opportunity to serve as Emissary.
For those who don't know me, I've been around the club an ungodly long time. I was away for quite a while before returning in 2019. In real life, I work in digital marketing and data analysis, while also dabbling in coding. My background gives me some pretty solid ideas for how to go about recruiting new members. I've also been both Consul and Proconsul of Taldryan, which gives me insight into at least some of the challenges the Clans face on an everyday basis.
Okay, enough about me. Let's get back to business.
Bubba has asked me to stick with the roadmap that Qormus laid out when he first took the job. For those who missed it the first time, the plan focuses on three pillars: Recruit (for bringing in new members), Retain (to make sure existing members stick around), and Reengage (see whether former members might give us another shot, as I myself did back in 2019). It's a solid path forward, and I see no reason we shouldn't continue with it.
If you'd like more details, please see Qormus' introduction post.
A few small updates on what we've been working on since the Emissary office's rebirth:
Social Media: Nora continues to collect highlights for us to share on our various social media platforms. We're finalising the details around how that's going to work now. Expect to see that go live starting in February.
A New Welcome Page: One of the cornerstones of digital marketing is making sure your website shows up well on search engines and piques a visitor's interest. At the moment, ours doesn't. We're working on fixing that, in collaboration with the Herald and Seneschal teams, starting with a new home page for people who aren't logged in.
Site Quality of Life Changes: The "new member experience" doesn't just impact new members. We're planning a pretty substantial overhaul of the website. In the meantime, you'll see some smaller QoL changes to make finding things easier.
Contact Methods: In the finest traditions of other cranky Canadian Councilors (hi Howie and Noobis), I've set up an [Log in to view e-mail addresses] and an Emissary Staff Suggestion Box. If you need to contact the Emissary Staff, please use those rather than e-mailing or DMing individual staff members.
I seem to have found myself with an empty Magistrate position. I'm not currently taking applications, but I might be hiring. Look out for a different news post on that, because I'm trialling a completely different selection process. Will it be a spectacular success, a dismal failure, or solidly meh? We'll see!
Again, I hope Qormus is okay, and that he returns soon with tales of whatever great adventure he's been on. And again, thanks to Bubtra for giving me the opportunity to serve as Emissary. Watch this space for more updates.
