Greetings gamers! With the holiday season upon us there’s a bit of a reset going on in the Fist office. My goal is to bring some new staffers on board and focus the team on 2023. I hope to come out strong starting on new years with some exciting new content.
But first a bit of a clarification…
Once upon a time, membership in DJB-ran guilds was mandatory if you wanted clusters for SWTOR and you had to play on “official” Jedi Academy servers that were tightly regulated. Well, times have changed. Guild membership hasn’t been mandatory in years and after moving away from the old rules of member vs member pvp to a screenshot-based system there’s really no need to regulate gaming servers like we used to.
Some may feel disappointed that we don’t have “official” guilds or servers anymore but I think the Fist office sticking to a support and facilitation role reflects the more fluid nature of our gaming community. The recent surge of interest in Star Wars Galaxies and the bustling guild in that game happened organically thanks to a few dedicated volunteers. This is how I envision things working going forward.
I’ve updated the wiki with a new Gaming Guild and Server policy to reflect things as they exist now. If you notice any old policies or pages I missed on the wiki please let me know so I can either tag them obsolete or redirect them to the new policy.
The policy can be accessed here.
With Uji stepping back and Nora reaching the end of her war-extended term on the 1st I have two magistrate positions to hire for. This time I want to try to look for a particular set of skills in each. There will still will be cross-training on the queue and other parts of the office but I wanted to focus hiring on what will be the staff priorities for the upcoming year. These positions will have six-month terms with options to renew. There are no rank requirements and current and former staff are encouraged to apply.
Please email brief applications with any relevant ideas or experience you have to myself and Bentre by 11:59PM EST on November 30th.
The ultimate goal of the Fist staff is to get more people gaming together and I believe community events are a major part of that. I would like to hire someone to focus on how we can improve our events, generate new types of events and ultimately to equip and encourage members across the club to host them. To be clear, I don’t expect this person to host everything themselves; both myself and the rest of the Fist staff will be behind you.
This position is one I really need someone with a particular set of skills, but don’t let that intimidate you. I know we have lots of members with experience producing content streaming, creating video or hosting something like a podcast. If you have those skills or are interested in picking them up and want to help the club then we need you! You don’t have to be the person on the screen/mic but if you have the skills to help others do so then please apply.
The goal of this position is to help me get a framework in place for staff-made content but also to start featuring clips, interviews, etc of our gaming community in action.
When in doubt, apply! We need you!
Until next time gamers!

It's good to see that guild management will be in the hands of the members and member-ran. It never made sense to have one side be the "official" guilde in TOR (for example) while making the other side feel excluded as an "official" guild.
Nice report.
Apply to all the Things! Also, I like the move on MMO guilds.
wasn't the removal of the guilds official running because of a member that was CoJ'd for theft of all guild items and fraud and kicked from the Brotherhood? I remember that happening with swtor years ago.
Good, goooooood.
We don't speak his name :P I also forgot it.
But there were some guilds in other avenues, such as in Star Conflict, where guild members could send resources to building a fleet.
Great report!!
Awesome Report!
