A new Fist staff is in place, we have some projects starting to form and data from the war to digest so let’s get started. Thanks to Jael and the Herald office for the snazzy new report graphics <3
We want to thank Ric for his service to the Fist staff and highlight his recent promotion because he’s just that awesome! Not to be outdone, Nora recently got a sapphire blade and a promotion!
With Ric stepping back and Nora staying on I had two magistrate slots and a praetor slot to fill. I received some very thoughtful and detailed applications so thank you to all the applicants for making my decision a tough one. But in case you missed it in gaming chat here is your new team Fist:
Praetor to the Fist - Bentre
Magistrate - Talon Jade
Magistrate - Uji
Joining Magistrate - Nora who’s term has been extended by two months due to the war.
So please welcome the new #TeamFist if you haven’t already. I think we have great team with a lot of energy and a diverse array of perspectives both in the club and in gaming. There will be another magistrate rotation in a few months and I might start looking for freelance volunteers with ahem a particular set of skills for a special project I’ll announce later.
So with the new Team Fist in place we are diving into not only some administrative work like platform reviews and wiki documentation updates but I wanted to share some “whiteboard” level ideas we’ve been working on. These are very very early stage projects that I hope to share more details with in the future and everything is subject to approval from the Grand Master and Deputy Grand Master.
Staff Members: All
Live events on Discord or streams (site tbd) are things you will see the entire staff doing in one form or another. Whether it’s getting people together to play a particular game, a “gaming with the fist” type event, a tournament or even a discord stream with a gaming how-to. Party games like Jackbox, Tabletop Simulator, or Cards Against Humanity are also on the table. The goal is to bring people together and hopefully build those social ties to expand who people game with. #OneBrotherhood
Staff Members: Bentre
Bentre will actually address this more in future Praetor reports (yes those will be a thing again but we will avoid overlap in what we cover) but the basic idea is to host events, produce guide content and generally encourage teamwork, cooperation and higher levels of PVE play, specifically in SWTOR to start off with. I would love to be able to start posting some Club Firsts again for members coming together for high-end PVE content. If the idea of gearing up and helping prep members for higher end SWTOR content sounds like something you want to be a part of stay tuned.
Staff Members: Talon (lead) with Uji
Talon has been promoting the online version of the Star Wars Card Game from the 90s with live tutorials and playing with folks but both he and Uji are starting to explore options for the Fist staff to plus up our support for mobile gaming and online card games. We have hearthstone as a supported platform but it never hurts to explore other options. We’ve also supported things like Galaxy of Heroes with Fist-sponsored content in the past. If you have any mobile games you think would be good candidates for us to look at please let Talon or Uji know.
Staff Members: Uji (lead) with Bentre
This is a project that you will definitely see take a more definitive shape in the coming months. Right now, we’re analyzing how the club rewards and incentivizes gaming. This includes things like clusters, the GMRG society, the GMRG leaderboard, competitions, etc. There have been a lot of changes with the removal of PVP and the pendant of blood so it’s worth a comprehensive look at ways the club can incentivize gaming as an activity.
Staff Members: Turel and Nora
Live events are a bit of a pet project of mine, but with our club being worldwide and people having hectic schedules in real life, members can’t always attend live events. Multimedia is how I plan to balance that out. I would like to create content that is asynchronous (that members can view at any time). Gaming clips, how-to guides, member-submitted content, and “podcast” style chats with key gaming community members. This might include things like streaming off discord on something like Twitch or youtube live, which saves streams for later viewing. There are approvals and policies that need to be worked out, but I look forward to making content for our gaming community. Eventually, my dream is that we show off how cool our community is in multimedia, and it can become a recruitment tool.
I wanted to highlight some recent additions to the Fist documentation on the wiki. Talon hit the ground running as a Magistrate and created two new reference guides for members to use.
Casual Gaming Queue - Casual Gaming Queue gets enough questions that it really needed its own reference guide and now it has one! The next step will be developing a casual gaming course for the journeyman hall of the Shadow Academy.
Star Wars Card Game Guide - This is a great reference on what the online Star Wars card game is and how to get started.
Great work Talon!

Overall I feel like the war was a success on the gaming front but I really want to know how you feel. Please fill out the war survey as soon as it comes out and leave me some feedback. I promise I read it and patterns of feedback will drive what you see in the next vendetta.
So with a new staff in place and projects starting to form, things are moving in the Fist office. But even as awesome as the staffers are they and I only represent a small slice of the gaming community. I need your help! My call to action this month is Casual Gaming Queue. I am itching to add my first new supported game but I need data showing people play the game to get the final levels of approval. This is where you, the everyday gamer, come in. I need to feed the casual gaming machine. If you have a game or mode you wanted supported then get your buddies together and submit those matches! If you see others promoting a game and you think “that would be cool if that game were supported” then try to jump into a match and make sure it gets submitted. The more people play, the easier it is to game a game supported. The Fist staff and I will work to support and highlight new games we think have promise but ultimately, this is not a top-down process. The clusters you submit may help your fellow gamers get their game supported.
As Captain Planet used to say, the power is yours!
Make sure to fill out the war survey when it comes out and don’t forget about the Fist Comment Box for anything gaming related that’s not necessarily war-specific.
Until next time gamers!
