Casual Gaming Queue

The Casual Gaming Queue is now live. As I described in Report #36, this queue will allow you to play nearly any video game regardless of platform with another DB member. This is a major initiative for the DJB and is in my opinion the next evolution of how gaming will grow in this club.

The rules for Casual Gaming are relatively straightforward:

  1. You must play with at least one other DB member. There will be no solo submissions allowed in this queue.
  2. The game must have a screenshot that clearly shows the gamertag, PSN ID, Steam name, etc. for all members who participated.
  3. In the event that the gamertag is not one currently listed on your dossier, it is strongly advised (but not required) that your gamer ID be similar to your DB name.
  4. In the event that #3 is not feasible for any reason, members must place a comment on the submission listing the in game name and the associated DB character name.
  5. You must input the name of the game played and the platform you played it on in the details box.
  6. All casual gaming submissions will award one (1) Cluster of Earth (CE) per activity submitted. Modifiers for larger groups are in place, with a maximum of 1.3 CEs per activity.
  7. Casual Gaming is capped at fifteen (15) CEs per day, with a weekly cap of 105 CEs possible.
  8. This queue is for video games only.

Here is what a sample submission should look like:

First, Go to Submit Gaming Scores > PVE > Casual Gaming Queue > Casual Gaming

Second, Fill out each section. If you forget one, we’ll remand it so you can fix it!

Third, if the gamer names are different than their DB Character names, click save instead of save and submit. That way you can add comments!

Fourth and Final, If necessary, make sure you add the comment and put the gamer id and the DB character names by clicking “comment” and then typing it in. Once you are done, you are free to hit submit!

Why the gamertag/comment requirement? Simply put, I do not want there to be any delay in processing your submissions. If the staff has to chase down in-game handles for every submission and line them up with character names, a) that will exponentially increase processing time and b) they’ll probably want to quit. Neither of those are acceptable to me :).

If necessary, the MAA staff can create additional contact types. All they need is the name of contact type and the URL template (if required). You can email them at [Log in to view e-mail addresses]. Thanks to Howie for reminding me about that option!

Why the game name and platform requirement? This is at its purest sense a live, persistent game test. If we see the same game played by multiple people over an extended period of time, that gives a much better indication of whether or not a game should be fully supported in the DB system. Casual gaming is just that, casual. The caps are low to continue to prioritize our supported platform library (since that’s what we will use for large events like vendettas). Additionally, casual gaming will not yield Pendants of Blood. It’s too much work to identify level milestones and the time it takes to hit them for me to justify Pendants for unsupported games. So, if you want Pendants for a game you like, keep the activity high!

Now, I want to make something clear: not every submission in casual gaming will pass go. If a submission does not meet the above criteria, or if it causes any questions among the staff on whether or not it should be considered valid, I will review it. For now, I am withholding the final determination to allow a questionable screenshot through the system. If a submission is deemed invalid, I will reject it and let you know why. If you want me or a member of my staff to check a screen before you submit it or before you spend a lot of time playing a game that may or may not give you DB credit, we are more than willing to do that. Send the image in DM to me or any member of my staff. You can also email us at the Fist staff email!

This is for video games only. As fun as it would be for us to see group selfies of everyone playing Mouse Trap around the kitchen table, that’s not what this is for. So please, no board games from Friday game night.

And...that’s it! I hope you all enjoy this new option for gaming.

GMRG Scoring

The GMRG leaderboard results are out. This is the last leaderboard that will operate under the old system. The points for competitions will stay, because I do want the GMRG leaderboard to be accessible in some way to all types of gamers. But for now, clusters are king again.

Moving forward, the scoring model is as follows:

(CE*1) + (CF*2) + (a+b+c+d+e) = GMRG Score

  • a= Total First place finishes x 10
  • b= Total Second place finishes x 5
  • c= Total Third place finishes x 3
  • d= Total Fourth and Fifth place finishes x 2
  • e= Total Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth Place finishes x 1

Like all things in the DB, balance is important. By re-prioritizing cluster earning over competitions, I am working with the Regent on whether or not an adjustment to the number of credits that gaming clusters yield is warranted. No change as of now, but if necessary the Regent will make that determination.

We can’t have anyone breaking the bank after a Gorefest weekend now can we?

I genuinely hope you all enjoy both of these changes. I am sure there will be adjustments in the future, but I think this is the right direction for the DB Gaming community at this time.

Please provide any feedback in the comments below, or send a message on Discord or even an email and let me know what you think.

Have fun!

-Dracpool, out.

Neat. Loving these adjustments.

I love the quick follow through from concept to implementation. I hope you get a ton of feedback from early adopters!

Wow, great! I thought this would take longer to implement.

a question on some games, like hearthstone battlegrounds, when you face 7 other opponents.

say DB member X and DB member Y create a game where 6 no DB join. do we just show we played or do placements count, cause the game does not list the names of players unless you highlight/mouse over the heros to pull up names. even in the game of 8, there is times where you might not face an opponent amongst the 8 even once.

also, for above game, does in matter if the players came in 1st or 8th or in between? i.e. DB-X gets 3rd while DB-Y gets 6th, etc...

@brimstone Placements are irrelevant for this mode. It’s simply “play a game together, take a screenshot that shows who played, submit it, earn a CE.”

You must be able to show all participants on the screenshot. If you can’t then it likely won’t work.

That said, this is really for unsupported platforms. Hearthstone is already a supported game in our system. If you want a new mode for it, then give us some details and we will look at it.

well, battlegrounds is a part of Hearthstone. it isn't like the card game part where we build decks, this is choose a hero and buy minions in the shop to out last others from 5-20+ rounds

Among Us anyone?

I think I like this.

Very good, Draccy.

What an excellent change, very exciting!

Very nice.
