Scriptly Transcription Bot Added to DB Discord

Thanks to James, praise be upon him, we now have the Scriptly transcription bot in the DB discord server. This bot provides the capability of real-time transcription of discord voice chats as well as a text-to-speech feature.

How-to Guide

Before I dive into how to use this new bot let me lay down some basic etiquette expectations for its use. First, obviously, before activating the transcription bot in a voice channel make sure the people in that channel know you are doing so. Not that anyone is talking about anything nefarious in our VCs but people do talk about their day or other personal matters in VCs that they may not be comfortable having in writing for everyone with access to that channel to see. Second don't use the Text-to-Speech feature of the bot to spam a channel. By spam I mean not simply using it to communicate but repeatedly spamming messages to disrupt the ongoing communication in the channel.

Alright so how do you use this thing? First you need to join a voice channel and click the little speech bubble to open that channels associated text chat. Discord voice channels have a corresponding text channel if you weren't aware.

If the bot is not currently in the voice chat you can type /transcribe and select "Balanced" and the bot will join the discord channel.

When the bot joins it will show up in the VC as another user

Once the bot is active it will transcribe, as best it can, what is said in the Voice Chat tagging each line with the profile picture and name of the speaker

To use the text-to-speech feature of the bot type /tts in the voice channels text channel. Make sure you see the bot dialogue box as you're typing

Once you've sent your TTS command the bot will read it in the voice chat. The bot will add a person speaking reaction to the command to let you know it's started reading and the "hear no evil" monkey reaction to let you know it is done reading. Try to pay attention to these indicators if you're using TTS so you don't give the bot commands too quickly as it will cut off to read the most current command.

Finally, when you are done or just want the bot to leave you can type /disconnect in the VC text chat.

Closing

That's how you use the new bot. This will be a great asset for our deaf/hard of hearing members or anyone wanting to participate in a VC but not able to listen or speak in it for some reason. If you have any technical issues with the bot message me first and I'll tag James in if it requires server-level admin powers I lack to fix.
