#%&@, time to try this again. Greetings everyone and welcome to my #39th Report as Grand Master of the Dark Brotherhood. This will be a hasty travel report based on the fact I am at an airport, typing on a phone, and have ready deleted my first attempt on accident.
I'll cover the new Voice, new wiki Tribune, and detail my decision to kill custom species and limit new characters to canon only species.

Administrative Data
1) Voice: Mav and I reviewed roughly ten applications for the position of Voice and narrowed the field down to two CSP superstars. In the end, we have decided to select Evant as the new Voice. This decision was based on Evant's tenacious work as P:MAA and his very well thought out application. Evant and I have already talked over his upcoming duties with a focus on the creation of the Fiction Society, the evolution of the Dark Brotherhood plot, and the oversight of updated character sheets and ACC systems. Good luck Evant!
We appreciate all of the applications and want to thank those who submitted.
2) The Wiki Tribune is linked with all things DJB and is often under appreciated. It requires a special sort of attention to detail type person to hold that job and Slagar is one of those people. Slags submitted a well thought out application and I look forward to working with him.
Paths and Orders and moving forward.
Mav and the DC just finished a long discussion on our proposed Paths and Orders plan for the DJB. Over 20 emails back and forth debated the merits of allowing a member to serve in House that was not aligned with their own alignment. In the end, it was determined that a member could serve, with a fictional and thought out reason, in a unit that is against their alignment. So, the new system will launch with this capability, but I will reserve the right to executively change the policy if it becomes a considerable pain in the ass. :) Initial work has been discussed with the SCL and we hope to get the new systems in place sooner rather than later.
Featured Project: ACC Updates + GM Decisions
1) Wallycat and the ACC staff have been hard at work on tweaking our character sheets and the ACC over the past few months. This work includes cleaning up some vague Force Power descriptions as well as streamlining mechanics within the ACC. Think of their work as Character Sheet 2.0 and ACC v93,797,986. Mav and I have retained a bit of oversight on the project because we view these things as our children, but I can safely say Wally and his team are doing great work and the DB will benefit from it in the near future.
2) During discussions on the nuances of Force Usage, I made a decision that will impact all of our new members and our existing members moving forward. That decision is that following today, we will not approve character sheets with non-canon species. I made this decision because 1) there are a ton of canon species to choose from 2) I find it a waste of time to have the ACC long hours on fine tuning and balancing a talking rock or squirrel.
Before the crowd of near-human or bug species go insane, this decision comes with a Grandfather clause. If you happen to be playing a sentient rock right now, you can continue to do so. However, new members will not have that option and neither will existing members who currently do not play Legacy only species. In other words, if you are a hums today, you can't change to a Legacy only species tomorrow.
I am also applying this policy to the creation of custom species. We will no longer accept custom species (to be honest, we already stopped doing this over a year ago).
Wally and his team have a safe list of species and I'll have them update the wiki.
I know this will upset some of you, but in terms of balancing our workload and keeping species to a manager number, this is the decision I am going with. I basically watched a 100 thread discussion on whether or not a Miruluka could see how many fingers someone was holding up behind a door....and found it to be massive waste of time. We have other projects and work to accomplish :p
And travel. My job is one of those jobs and unsurprisingly I found out last week that I would be spending the entire summer in Germany. My wife and I are doing a short little trip this weekend and then I'll head off to my summer job early next week. No impact on the DB, but I'll be on the move and mobile only for the rest of the weekend.

The species change seems a bit drastic, even if it only applies to future members. I agree that 100 emails discussing what a miraluka can and cannot see is excessive but surely can't be the norm when it comes to deciding what to do with species, neti as an example "can hide in a forest, don't like fire" I'm fairly confident that this wasn't the result of a long email chain. :P
That being said, what's to say the same might not be the result if someone wants to be a canon species that currently isn't in the system?
The custom species part, which as you said have been the rule for quite some time, I agree with though.

Grats to Evant and Slagar! I'm content with the compromise reached on species, even if it means more limited options going forward. But who knows? Disney might introduce a new talking rock...or a singing rock. A singing rock that only wants to find love.

Perhaps they might even introduce, dare I say it, a singing bush?

Malik: the discussion goes beyond a long thread (involving a collection of the clubs leaders from each unit) on a single example. How we work with and address the unique traits and quirks of the vast alien species of the SW verse, is an ongoing effort of balancing within our Role Playing system. This is simply a logical progression towards keeping our material as in line with Canon as possible.
The Grandmaster is being incredibly flexible in allowing grandfathering in of existing species.
More information on how species with very unique designs (like Miraluka) will work in our Role Playing system will follow with other C2 2.0 updates.

In terms of species, we have already witnessed the new books cover non movie species. As new ones are added, or readded, we will allow them. But for now, Vongarella is out.

As for figuring out how a sith could work in a house.of Jedi etc, think.of dungeons and dragons. You have.9 different alignments.
Chaotic lawful, chaotic neutral, chaotic evil Lawful good, lawful neutral, lawful evil Neutral good, neutral evil, true neutral
In campaigns, it's not uncommon for different alignments to work together.
I.e. a lawful good paladin would seek to kill the zombie while a chaotic good wizard would try to recruit them as troops

Note to Odan-Urr: "She is just his girlfriend" is likely not a super acceptable justification for having a Sith in your Clan.
However, I am curious and interested to see what comes of all the cross alignment interactions across the Brotherhood and agree with you Brimstone, it makes for interesting stories. :p
