“Worthless.” Sneered the voice, “Everything you do, everything you stand for. Worthless.”
The twisted tongue inside Sariel’s head continued to spew venomous filth in an angry tirade. The dark emotions had manifested a persona, and it fought the Odanite tooth and nail for control of the vessel that had become Sariel. The human placed his hands on his temples, rubbing gently to try and ease the pain that rippled through his mind. The attempt caused the darkness to laugh a horrifying cacophony of cackles that made the Aedile uncomfortable.
Sariel tried again to compose himself, sorting through the things on his desk in order of importance. His hands grabbed a letter, the sight of it causing the human to smile. The parchment of the envelope felt familiar, the same feeling one gets when they return home after being away for years. He opened and began reading its contents, and as soon as he read the second sentence he wished he hadn’t.
“It is with a sad heart and a regretful spirit that I must inform you that Grigory took his own life…”
The darkness roared, the sadness and pain the human felt giving it strength. Sariel gazed up from the letter and caught his reflection in the mirror. Though he remained sitting, his reflection showed him standing and staring back at him. The eyes of his reflection turned from him to the service blaster that had been given to him as a gift when he took the position of Aedile. The darkness, staring at him through his reflection, motioned with his hands to pull the trigger and something inside Sariel turned off and suddenly he no longer controlled his body. He watched as his limbs began moving, forcing him up and heading over to the blaster. His fingers coiled around the handle, and tried as hard as he could to stop them, they grabbed it and lifted the weapon. He heard laughter one more time as he felt the cold metal of the pistol press against his temple. Tears brimmed around Sariel’s eyes as he remembered his friend, remembered the man he was and the things they did together. He remembered the countless times Grigory talked him out of doing the dark deed that his friend felt was his only option. For a moment, Sariel wanted the pleasure of an end to the suffering. Every day, he walked out into the vastness of the galaxy and every step would bring sorrow, heartache, and misery as he felt the pain of those around him. Every day, he tried to help another member of Odan-Urr, make a friend, do something to better the galaxy.
But for a moment, when the suffering was so close to stopping, when Sariel could almost hear his friend saying welcome home brother, he heard the words of the darkness in his mind once again. “Worthless. Everything you do, and everything you stand for.”
“No.” said Sariel with something in his voice that had for what seemed like an eternity had been missing from it. For the first time, his voice was saturated with righteous fury instead of stoic serenity. “This galaxy may be filled with darkness. Good men may sit by and watch as evil grows, but as long as some good men do something, then at least some will still have hope.”
He tossed the blaster pistol back where he grabbed it from, and returned his gaze to the mirror. “And you, dark one, will never see the light of day again.”
My name is Sariel Dhejeuti, also known as Sammy, Kah, Fenris, Sarak, Tur’el, etc. etc. I left Odan-Urr a few years back and went to Tarentum, running things from Battle Teams to Houses and doing what I could to help members as best as I could.
In real life, I work at Market Basket and write in my spare time, also doing martial arts and hanging out with my wife and doggos. I’m an open book, easy to talk to, and a good listener, so if you ever want to vent to someone, talk to someone, or debate on which Pantheon of Gods is the best, I’m your guy. This report will be a small one, basically just to say hello and answer some minor things. Normally, I’d be discussing project work people can sign up for, or what it is we are currently working on, etc. But, to be honest, other than the wiki I don’t have much project work to dish out at this current time, and with a Clan event just about to wrap up (You’ve got till the 12th, so hurry in those entries) it seems like all attention is focused on either finishing big in the event or taking a quick breather. So while we take that breather, I am going to release some quick and easy comps that we can all enjoy. These will be things like two sentence story, caption contests, nothing too serious and something we can all laugh at.
I put up a quick Ask Sariel and got a few questions that I’d like to answer.
Seraphol asks: Do you have plans to bring some Tarentum fiction ideas to Hoth? If for nothing else than to help keep its legacy alive.
In short, more than likely not. Not because there was a soapbox almost erected immediately after you asked this, but because the membership of Odan-Urr is different than the membership of Tarentum. They wanted blood, guts, gore, and horror. They wanted to be made to feel uncomfortable, craved wincing at a story. But that’s not Odan-Urr. Will I still write Tarentum themed stuff in my spare time? Hell yeah, but that’s because that’s what I write. I will be using the Holocron to post real life writing I’m working on for critiques, as well as some funsie writing I’ll do to see if I can make anyone uncomfortable.
Len asks: What are you most looking forward to as Aedile?
Working with Celevon and you all, to be honest. Helping members have a good time, create something beautiful with them and for them, and watch as our baby slowly grows up, quietly begin to resent us and move off to college.
Len asks: Chicken or Beef?
Either or. I learned a lot from Beef, but Chicken has it’s lessons as well.
This is my first report as your AED. Like me, it was short, sweet, and to the point. In the comments, however, I have a request of the members of Odan-Urr. If you could give a competition type that you prefer doing in the comments, as well as whether or not you would be interested in some run ons or friendly gaming, I’d appreciate it. Easy way for me to see what I can do and who for. Also, I promise next report will be more traditional guys.
