Introduction
Hello everyone and a belated Happy New Year to all of you!
2017 was a blast, full of ups and downs, but it’s a new year. For some, a rebirth and a chance to better yourself. The best part is that we have roughly ten months before that horrible, horrible Christmas music starts up again. (Let’s face it: That really is the best part.)
The promised House fiction is in the works as we speak, of which there will be multiple editions. Will it be a standalone announcement or included in reports? We’ll see.
With 2018, there is a new Scimitar!
What’s changed from 2017 to 2018? The scoring system has been altered as follows:
- Crescent worth has increased. Originally, Quartz to Topaz only showed an increase in points by .25. Now, Crescents earn 1-7 points from Quartz (1) to Diamond (7).
- Clusters of Earth and Fire have been separated. Originally, both were worth .25 a piece. If the site systems show a Cluster of Fire as worth two Clusters of Earth, why have them the same in Scimitar? Now, Clusters of Earth are worth .1, which means ten Clusters of Earth earn you a point.
- Clusters of Graphite and Ice values have been lowered. Previously, each was worth ten points. From the Great Jedi War and general competitions in December, one member earned a combined total of 48, which was 480 points.
- Pendants of Blood have been increased from 2 to 5 points.
- Competition Creation went up from 1.5 points to 5 points. With all of the work that goes into organizing and grading these events, it seemed detrimental to award the equivalent of earning a single Crescent with Emerald Star. (These will only be included upon closure of said competition).
- Member of the Month has been increased from three to five points.
- Project Work (such as completed wiki pages) has increased from 1-10 to 5-15 points.
- Special Competitions have been added, worth 5 points for every valid entry. There will only be three such competitions ran for the duration of 2018's Scimitar, as this was very successful in the trial run with the Icy Blade competition.
- In the Shadow Academy, passing courses have increased from 1.5 to 2 points. Unlike the previous system, there will not be additional points given for successful retakes, as there's no way that I'm aware of to track this through the site itself. The small increase is due to how easy some courses (such as those that award Pundit Degrees) can be. Additionally, Shadow Academy Degrees now earn points to your overall score. 2.5 for Pundits, 5 for Mavens, 10 for Savants and 20 for Sage Degrees.
With that out of the way, let’s get into the report!
News
Clan/House
- Keep your eyes peeled for a Consul report. It should be out soon.
- Our now-former Rollmistress, Aurora “Aura/Blade” Ta’var has become the new Proconsul. Applications were held, information was mulled over and a Rollmaster was chosen: Ranarr Kul-Tarentae!
- Edgar has released his Thirteenth Report as Quaestor of House Hoth!
Brotherhood
- The Grand Master had several announcements since my last report, this and this one concerning the closure of Clan Tarentum. His third announcement involved a new appointment to the Star Chamber. If you don’t know what the Star Chamber is? I highly suggest reading the news post.
- With the closure of Clan Tarentum, the Consul, Rollmaster and one of the Quaestors had a few words to share.
- The Combat Master released his Twelfth Report, chock full of important news that you should read. Sarcastic hint: It heavily involves character sheets and news following the Great Jedi War. (Seriously, you should read this. You should know by now that I’m not going to tell you what is within these reports.)
- The Office of the FIST has had a busy month, releasing the Fifteenth and Sixteenth Reports, as well as a Supplemental of Gaming News.
- James has released his—why aren’t these numbered?—Seneschal Report for January. I’ll admit that I still have to glance over to make sure I’m spelling the name of that position correctly.
- And, finally, Wally has released his Twelfth Report as Voice of the Brotherhood!
