Introduction - A New Summit Emerges baring change and an event!

Welcome to my latest Hoth report, my first month in office has been interesting. I had to completely reconstruct the House summit by hiring both Yuki Suoh as our new Aedile and Darro Zhen for the BTL of the Knights of Allusis battleteam. I am excited to work with them and it’s fun seeing all the new and exciting ideas they are coming up with. If things go according to plan, I hope to be able to put out some great content for you all to enjoy.

Also, don’t forget that if you have a idea or a suggestion please send it to Yuki and myself and if we can use it, we will or we might just let you run it. So, our door is always open so please come right in.

As I said we have many ideas in the works right now, but the big thing currently is the Hoth Wiki project which is already in the works. So far, we have one, maybe two, major pages almost ready to be sent for approval and once we have that and it’s live on the DJB wiki, I’ll be sure to announce all new lore expansions for the house and our planet Solyiat.

To help kickstart this effort, we have launched our first mini-event called Proving grounds which will give Hoth members the opportunity to help build our planet even further. So I hope you all take part in the run-on and submit your ideas in the wiki comp as well.

In the coming months, I hope to see you, the members of Hoth, take a step forward and help your summit make this house one of the best in entire DJB!

Finally, you will notice the lovely new report artwork that was created by Rian Taldrya of the Herald staff and also I got to mention Tarvitz again for helping me compile the stats for the report, thanks to both of you.

• Our Consul Turel just informaed us that Corvus Corax is stepping down as our Rollmaster. It was a pleasure working with you Corvus and thank you for everything! For any interested COU member should seriously apply for this position it’s a great spot to get and to do so read Turel’s announcement for all the details. Application deadline is Feb 12th!
• The Combat Master’s report announce the opening of a ACC Judge Position Deadline for applications is Feb 6th.
• Clan Arcona is looking for a new Quaestor for House Galeres with a Deadline for applications is Feb 10th.

General News

• Both our new Aedile Yuki and new BTL Darro both dropped their first reports you should go check those out and be on the lookout for more good things from them.
• The new Herald's report announced their new Magistrate, COU’s own Mako Henymory and annouced the soon to be launched Graphics Society! So just like the INQ & GMRG the art community is about to get their own club! Awesome news!
• The Fist Report announced some changes to all the gaming telegram channels and outlined how a new game gets offically supported in the DJB. If you ever wanted to know read this report!
• The Headmaster's report updated us on his projects and awarded his staff their semi annual Scrolls of Foundation. Speaking of which, our very own Ashael Blackstar earned a Scroll of Foundation for taking 50 courses last month whcih is more than half of the courses current;y offered by the SA!
• The Regent’s report announced the addition of new items from Rogue One, Rebels, The Clone Wars and Battlefront into the stores.

The large meeting room was dominated by a large table in the center. Edgar Drachen, the newly appointed Commander of the Joint Task Force, sat at the head looking at those gathered around the table. Yuki Suoh and Darro Zhen, in their standard battle armor, sat nearby with Arcia Cortel, the retired Commander, acting as a consultant to the Central Command. Edgar looked at each in attendance and nodded slightly.

“The time has come to set up our satellite operations center on Strokera,” the man said softly. “Prospect zero-zero-two sits on the eastern coast. Your mission is to explore, examine and record what is on the eastern side of the continent.. We need to know what the wildlife is like, any current inhabitants, if any, and if any of the flora is deadly. The satellite imagery and recent flyovers have given us a large sense of what’s going on there, but there are still so many questionable sites and features there. So after discussing this with Yuki and Arcia the only way for us to know for sure what is there is to put boots on the ground. Darro, since most of the House as been sitting idle especially the Knights I want you to prepare the Knights and any who wish to join you for this mission.”

To start off the new year, the Summit of House Hoth present to you our first mini-event for your enjoyment. We decided that after two long Clan events and since the house summit has had a major shakeup it would be best to run something lightweight at this time. This helps to fill the gap in the calendar and gives everyone a chance to learn and write about each other's characters.

Since this is strictly a run-on exercise, I hope you all participate and have fun with it. Also, if you have any feedback for future events please email Jack and I at anytime.

Hello, everyone! It’s Jack. I’m here to announce our choice for Member of the Month. This month has been a little slow, fairly decent activity. There is one member who has simply astounded and is trying very hard to shame us all into activity and that is none other than Ashael Blackstar with FIFTY (written out for emphasis) SA courses. • Ka Tarvitz asks -- In your opinion, may I ask what you consider to be the most important characteristic that every Quaestor should possess?
  

In my opinion the characteristics any leader should have are honesty, Integrity and a thick skin. The reasons for the first two are quite obvious, you never want to be dishonest with not only your members but you don’t want to be dishonest with yourself either. If you say you're going to do something, you do it or get help from someone to get it done. By not over promising, you will live a happier life.

But having thick skin is critical because you will eventually have to make an unpopular decision, deny something someone worked hard on or take an action against a friend or a top member. You have to do the job for the best of the unit so there is a chance that you will make people upset now and then. You gotta be ready for the member backlash from time to time, it happens so you got to deal with it and move on.

• Tamashi asks - What's the best way to ensure the maximum (potential) participation in a competition that is being run?
  

This is a tough one, but I think it first starts with the competition you are running. Is it a comp you know members are looking for? For example in Telegram you see a lot of comments about no good character building fiction comps. Or you see a lot of member’s talking about a game they are all enjoying at the moment. Or have you come up with a idea and ran it past a few people to see if there is interest for a competition.

So you see the competitions people do the most of (besides event competitions) are ones they are interested in doing. So, you need to do your homework to know what the members are looking for.

Once that is done, you have to make sure you let people know the comp exists. Now, you can run into DB chat and scream about your comp every minute but you can advertise it to the clan chat and in the Fiction/Art/Gaming chats to get the best audience you can. Just don’t be annoying with it and you will do fine. So in short create, a comp you have a good feeling there is a lot of interest or want for and then do the best you can to hype the comp during it’s run.

• Alethia asks - How wood (sic) you describe the difference between Hoth and Shan to a newcomer?
  

Hoth rules! Shan Drools! That’s how you …. Oh wait you're being serious. Well then I would say that Shan is the house for the people that like the more spy angle of being a Jedi that are the ones that go deep undercover and are in harm’s way almost all the time. While in Hoth we tend to be more of the traditional Military that is called up when Shan identifies the enemies of the resistance. Of course, both houses overlap in these respects but that’s mostly because we work together and will always fight as a united Clan against all of our enemies.

In conclusion -

I’m pleased with how the new summit it coming together, our goals are the same, our outlook is the same and our vision for Hoth is beginning to come together. We already have ideas in motion and we are already sitting down to work gather more ideas to start setting up our first major house event some time later this year.

We have a long road to go and I hope that with you, the members, help we can make Hoth a powerhouse to take into the next Great Jedi War!

Oh and one final note, there have been questions about graphical glitches appearing in the most recent reports and announcements. All I can say it that it is a glitch of unknown origin and we are trying to correct it as we speak. So, if you happen to see this again you can feel free to completely disregard them.
