Good day Galerians, Arconans, and whoever the bloody hell else is reading this! Been a good long while since I’ve done a report — I managed my entire time as Aedile without doing a single one, but I blame the GJW for that — and the last one was to say I might be back here someday. And now I am. So here we are. Short sentences. Shorter.

It’s a new year: we’ve got new faces and some old ones have left for other Clans or the Rogues, but as you might imagine, that doesn’t mean things have slowed down at all. If anything, we’ve got more competitions than can be done by someone with a full sleep schedule, wiki work (that endless devil), and other little tidbits for you to sink your teeth into. So, without further ado, let’s get to the report!

The Business End

Aedile Wanted

With my sliding into Uji’s seat as Quaestor, we now find ourselves sans Aedile. As such, I will be accepting applications for the post. For any interested, know that Galeres is the “military” arm of Arcona, fictionally speaking. We have quite a few members that lean toward the gaming side, but we have a growing fictional presence as well. Read the rest of the report to see what you might be looking at for work as the incoming AED. If you have anything additional to the elements listed below for the application, feel free to add them. It may help yours stand out!

Applications should be e-mailed to me ([Log in to view e-mail addresses]), the PCON ([Log in to view e-mail addresses]), and the CON ([Log in to view e-mail addresses]). A PDF, MS Word, or e-mail text box application will be accepted. Do not send a GDoc link; it won’t be opened.

Required Elements

• DJB History - Tell me about your leadership experiences and stand-out project work.
• Activity - What can I expect in competitions (participated & created) and communication from you?
• Strengths/Weaknesses - Be up front and tell me where you excel and where you struggle in leadership, interpersonal commo, etc.
• Plans - What, if any, ideas do you have coming into Galeres? Give a plan of action for any you present.

Desired Elements

• Shadow Academy Leadership coursework passed (or the MVL completed)
• An understanding of Markdown (the SA has a course for this too)
• A strong grasp of the (written) English language
• Any additional credentials that support your DJB side of the application
• Any up front questions you may have

Wiki Work

Both Galere’s and Nighthawk’s wikis are out of date, and the Nighthawk ship needs an entirely new one for the new ship replacing the old Agave-class. Currently the Battleteam’s wiki is the focus, and has been pared down substantially in our working GDoc. If you want to be part of these projects and reap the benefits thereof, send myself and Constantine a message on Telegram or via e-mail. Please only come forward if you intend to actually assist. You don’t get participation credit for saying “I want to help.”

Competitions

There are a LOT of competitions out there, and many are fiction, and many more are ending soon. The list below is just a highlight rundown. The full competitions list can be found here.

• Selen Development Project - Be part of building and fleshing out Arcona’s physical hotspots. We’ll be working on military bases soon, which is our ball field, so keep an eye on this. Current batch runs until Jan. 19th.
• Arcona Winter Captions - Makin’ dem dank memes with some Star Wars screen shots in this long-running parent comp.
• FIST Jan. Gaming Challenge - A mix of flash and mobile games to titilate your casual gaming needs.
• Star Craft II - Arcona’s own Grot is working this, bringing back “an oldie but a goodie” in gaming franchise history.
• Secret Santa Sithmas - Another Arconan comp, Leeadra’s fiction comp asks for a tale of your character and their holiday experience. Ends soon!

Final Notes

I didn’t do a Q&A (see what I did there?) this month, largely because I wanted to focus on hardline business. I’m glad to see Galeres is so lively these days, and that extends to the folks in Nighthawk. There’s going to be a lot of shakeups coming ‘round (fictionally speaking) and perhaps some new Possessions bits (if you kids are good), so ask questions if you have them.
