Well, hey, look at that. An address and a report.
Today is going to be as brief as I can be. I have several announcements to make and they didn’t really fit the Address format so I thought I’d release this short report to follow.
With that said, let’s dive in.
Your Will, My Hands.
Battleteams are so important. I can’t overstated that. There are some that may disagree with me on this, but I’d argue they haven’t seen the proper use of such a unit. Too often they come together as a random assortment of individuals - which I agree does no one any good. Yet, the ideal form of a Battleteam has to be viewed as a well establish small community; and that last word is the most important: community. If you are familiar with the family system (popular around 10 years ago) this is what a Battleteam should aim to be. A close-knit group of individual brought together just simply by their friendship.
When it is ran like this, not only do we see activity levels soar but the lore and identity of the unit becomes much more defined and in depth. Not to mention the reason for this is that, those involved have a higher level of satisfaction. Past teams like this, such as: Knights of Allusis, The Circle, Nightwraiths, Soulfire Strike team - even the Old Folks Home had this feel to it even though they didn’t consider themselves a real BT; and that’s because of the friendships and community already established. These teams were so strong in their prime because of the relationships formed within the units, and that’s so why they later died when the core members left.
Since I became Battleteam Leader of IC/Shadow Guard back in the spring, that above philosophy is what I have been aiming to bring to Imperium. With my rapid rise to Quaestor shortly afterwards, it kind of put things out of whack as I was no longer the driver of these units but rather the guy on the radio instructing the delivery truck. And while some of the messaging has gotten crossed and we’ve had some growing pains - Calindra and Wagglehorn have been progressing towards this philosophy in their own ways as well.
I look at our current progress like the pair have been building a vessel to hold the community we want to create. And not to shit on a classic, but this isn’t like A Field of Dreams. There’s no; “if you build it, they will come” to this story. To make a well established community, it takes more than just a vessel or a field to house it. Friendships don’t just happen - they take time, commitment, a willingness on both sides, and shared interests being acted upon.
So with the above in mind, I see us as a house entering Phase 2 of our Battleteam Development. We have an established structure, we have the basis concepts and themes for the units (as developed by those already involved), we are currently running Battleteam Comps that will solidify these concepts and so we can carve a wiki out. However, we are missing the relationships (and the people that form them). And this takes on a couple different conversations:
These aren’t easy questions. As much as I’d like to just take a stapler and stick a few people together and say ”BE FRIENDS”. Doesn’t work that way. We have to build environments that support this. And we also need people in those environments to be influenced by them for the objective of being better connected, while also influencing the environments to be more aligned with the interests of the crowd. In simple form: *we want you in the teams to be around people to make friends with, while also using your position in the team to influence it to an identity people enjoy. *
With that, I will be continuing to coach Calindra and Wagglehorn to make community driven content & activities, maintaining this focus on keeping an inclusive environment.
However, we also need to ask the membership to break their mould.
We are going to be asking all members to join a Battleteam. Every unattached member in Imperium is going to be approached by myself and asked to join one of the two Battleteams. It should be noted that any member, at any time, can request the House summit to move them between Battleteams. When new recruits join, the House Summit will be explaining the differences between Battleteam lores in case the incoming member has a preference. And I will continue to be open to the idea of people being unattached and free floating in Imperium. However, I want members to realize that, along with the push for developing community and relationships, our Battleteams will be providing additional opportunities for activity, growth, and personal development as well as offering a more personal 1:1 community. Additionally, as role models for our junior members we will be encouraging Equites & Elders to reflect on this as well. With this stated all unattached Equites and Elders can be expecting an email from me today to further discuss this.
Community development competitions are going to be an ongoing part of my role as Quaestor. With our move from Cocytus to Caperion, the changing identity we will implement for the House, and our desire to build relationships between our members; we have a void of current community culture and lore and in a direct attempt to counter that I’ve created the An Imperial Culture series which is briefly explained here:
For every Quaestor report, the Imperator will be releasing a new competition that focuses on activities that center around making Imperium lore, culture, or of course memes.Winning entries from these competitions will not only become official Imperium culture and concepts, but they will reported upon in a following Quaestor report for all to enjoy, share, and of course make part of our unit’s identity. Individual competitions will vary from trivia, to meme creation, to lore prompts; however there will be an overall top 3 determined by a combination of placement and participation points.
The debut competition for this series is: Meme An Imperial
The weather is cold, the girlfriend is gone for a work conference, and Raiju has loaded his fridge with beer & pop, and loaded his phone with delivery apps. This weekend (Jan 27th & 28th), and this weekend only, join Raiju Kang and other CSP gamers as we look to crush all the DJB supported Blizzard games (D3, HotS, SC2, Overwatch, & Hearthstone). I need to get some PoBs and I’m a noob to all this games, so let’s get together and have a good old fashioned gaming marathon. (Sleep not required)
That’s it! Not the shortest report, but wanted to draw attention to a couple different items.
