The crowd in the square at the steps for the former Governors palace watched eagerly but cautiously as the smiling man behind the podium began to speak. “My fellow citizens. It is my pleasure to address you as your interim first senator. This has been a difficult time for all of us but this is also a time that will go down in the history of our city and our world.” 

There was a burst of brief applause and flashes of press cameras. “I imagine to many of you the events of the past few months have been distressing and confusing and we have not been able to reveal too much. Now we are pleased to.” He paused and studied the crowd. “As you know for the last two years our world, and the system beyond, was occupied by the forces of the Collective. At first many of us were pleased, they brought order after the actions of the Orian Assembly on that horrendous day when they unleashed their weapons on our city, killing many of our fathers, mothers, sons and daughters and causing incalculable damage. And the Collective rebuilt with surprising efficiency, but they have imposed further restrictions on us, with travel banned to but a few, curfews, arrests and interrogations and controls on local business and the wider mining industry that has lead to job losses and poverty. There have also been rumours of disappearances and experimentations.”

He paused. The crowd were listening intently, and the cameras around him focused on him, broadcasting the footage to those watching at home, and to people across the planet in Kel Rasha and other places. “And now, we are free. And I will tell you how. A faction of those of us who served within the government have long fostered a plan to free our world. We have secretly contacted and engaged in negotiations with a force from outside our system, and it is with our request they have engaged the Collective forces and have driven them away or into hiding. And in return we have agreed with them to engage them as protection for our world, in return for the right to call this their home.”

He sensed some confused murmuring in the crowd and he continued. “So now you may be wondering what is next for our city and world. Well we have suffered under others for too long, the decadence of the Dlarit Corporation and the restrictive regime of the Collective. Instead we will be a free and prosperous world. We will soon be opening elections to the Senate. We will rebuild our businesses and create jobs and invest in our public services. And we will invite investment that will bring prosperity and a healthy future for our children, safe under a strong defence force. This is just the beginning of a new Seng Karash and a new Aeotheran!” This time the cheering was more enthusiastic, and he paused before continuing to speak. The cameras continued to record his every word as he began to outline the Senate’s plan for economic recovery in more detail.

Introduction

Greetings House Shar Dakhan

I hope you are all managing as well as can be expected at the moment. Personally, I am just getting on with things, maintaining a balance between working from home, keeping myself amused, getting some exercise and trying to eat healthily, and keeping in contact with friends and relatives as best as possible.

I am also back in a learning experience as your Quaestor. Though this is my third time in the post, the previous times were a decade ago in House Ludo Kressh. Over the last ten years they've added all sorts of weird and wonderful tools in terms of monitoring and communication. For example I've been looking at some of my old reports from 2006 and along with being cheerful, enthusiastic and slightly naive, they were also notable for their very basic text format. So I'm experimenting with the new (to me) reporting tools and I'll gradually improve these in the future as I experiment, so apologies and please bear with me if this looks a bit rough and ready.

Ongoing And Upcoming Events

As always you can find some ongoing competitions from across the Brotherhood here which has something for everyone to get stuck into.

Though there's some great stuff to get on with there I would like to draw particular attention to the ongoing Prepare For War! competition which was created by our Aedile Xuner Holst, Warlord Kojiro Keibatsu and former QUA and current Pro Consul Darkhawk. They've done a great job with this and it would be good if they got a solid number of entries in. The competition ends on the 20th so take your time, but don't take too much time if you see what I mean.

In addition there is a very good reason they picked that title for the competition. As we all know the Dark Council has given stronger and stronger hints that the Dark Brotherhood is heading for another Great Jedi War. Last year Clan Naga Sadow managed an impressive position as 2nd Clan of the Brotherhood, an achievement only matched once before in my time as a member.

The participation was amazing and so was the atmosphere I saw amongst the members of this Clan, both in email discussions and on telegram. The sheer level of enthusiasm comparing entries and encouraging each other I have not seen before, and I believe that atmosphere of support was what drove us on. I hope we can match or improve on that. We saw last year that though the high placing entries scored big points, because of how close the eventual result was every single entry and bin completion counted. We all need to do the best we can. Every member has a Grandmaster's napkin in their backpack, or however the expression goes.

Developments

I hinted in the first email I sent you all last month that this is our opportunity to develop our house fictionally. I'm on with tidying up some of our wiki articles, fixing errors. We had a discussion regarding the House Fleet names and these are now live on the Clan possessions tab, and I'm very happy with the number of you who made suggestions and took part in the discussion.

In addition following discussions with DarkHawk we've decided to hand leadership of the House Shar Dakhan forces to an NPC, former Commander and now Commodore Krillwho featured in the Veiled Curtain event. I'm hoping he'll become a permanent fixture in our House like the legendary Admiral Simonetti is Naga Sadow. We'll hopefully be seeing more of him in the future. I would like to point out that killing a House flag officer is a capital offence and though I'm not sure if it's possible to keelhaul someone from the front of a Vindicator Malisane is more than happy to give it a try.

For the next step we're going to look at the House and Aeotherans fictional development and I'll be hoping to involve some of you in this. We're looking for a middle ground between the puppet democracy of the Orian Assembly and the Corporate focus of the Dlarit Corporation. We've always seen Aeotheran as the Clan's primary credit earner and I want to expand on the best way to do this.

Finally there is a long tradition of fictions along with reports that shape our House and Clan. Recently some of us cooperated with Darkhawk to create the updates around driving out the Collective and taking back our planet, and I've done a little more of this on the discourse fiction. However I want a wider participation in this. So in future along with updates by myself and the Summit I'll be asking you to send us a little update of what your character and others are doing and how they react to events, just half to three quarters of a page so that the fictional development focuses on all of us and how we fit together as a House.

Anyway that's more than enough from me. I hope you enjoyed the report (if you got this far) and as I said the reports will gradually get better I promise.
