I’ll start this report with an apology. I’ve been absent and quiet lately, and while being quiet is not unusual for me, I have fallen behind on a number of things that I am involved with. In between an increased study load and an illness, I have not accomplished as much as I intended to last month.
I do, however, have something awesome to report, so without further ado let us begin!
Yet another reward cycle has completed, with only two more awards being discussed at this stage. I do regularly review everyone’s dossiers to look for opportunities to award folks, particularly after major events, but if anyone feels overlooked by all means shoot me an email. I do sometimes decide to “save” some activity for later, and chances are, that’s what is happening; I do document as much as I can, and I do write out reccs that I do not use so that there is a record to fall back on.
The recent medals given so far include:
My sincere congratulations to each of you, and I hope to have the other two awards sorted out soon.
While medals are easier to earn and hand out, promotions take some doing. Jedi Knight takes at least a couple of months. After that, many people work for a year before being elevated to Equite status. Even harder still, is to break further into the Equite ranks and rise as a third level Equite. We have each of these promotions to showcase.
Promotions are a tricky business. They take time, and patience, and many people get overlooked simply because leadership changes, or people don’t know what you’ve done, or people transfer out to rogues or other units. One of those has actually happened, and is addressed below. There are very few guidelines to follow in the Equite ranks, and none for Elder; it all boils down to judgement. Be patient, approach your Summit; you are well within your rights to ask what you need to do next. Don’t forget that there are many members a rank above you; for my part, when I try and judge these I look at examples of other promotions that have been granted, to see what kind of things the Master at Arms wants.
I am pleased to announce that Justin Wayne and Suur have completed their Journeyman Trials and now stand amongst us as Jedi Knights. Be sure to check out the armory, as a lot of robe and lightsaber options become available at this level. Well done.
While he has fallen to the Dark Side, I do remain committed to ensuring our members do receive their just awards - and to digging around when something comes up that I know little about. To that end, I’d like to congratulate Zednich Wolfram on becoming a Sith Warrior, and I wish him well in Clan Arcona.
And lastly, someone I have had my eye on for some time. JScumm has proven time and again to be a stalwart gamer and a reliable member, and I am very pleased to announce his promotion to the third Equite rank - Sentinel Shadow. Congratulations mate!
As I mentioned before, I have fallen behind on a number of projects, so I think I’ll document things here, both as a list for myself and for others to see my mind.
I was one of the workhorses involved in this project and still am. We are getting pretty close to completion and I have some coding work that needs to be hammered out, along with the first part of a new system for character species. This is my highest priority at this stage, but is close to being completed on our end.
I’m working on a tiered structure for Summit approval, and will also be cleaning up a few outstanding items. I am aiming to have this on A’lora’s desk by the end of next week at the latest. While not a priority, it is short and simple.
While member management is the domain of the Quaestors and Aediles, I have noticed a couple of things over the past few months and I’ll be writing up a proposal to try and help out the Summit. It isn’t a high priority as I do feel everyone’s working well, I just see a couple of things I can improve and will stick my nose in some time next week.
This is a higher priority for me, but will involve a fair bit of work so it’ll be a few weeks coming. I will be addressing the way that our Clan handles awards as I feel there are some elements that can be improved. I’ve written around 70 award recommendations in my time as Aedile and Rollmaster, and I feel that I need to move more towards establishing a system that others can learn from and make use of. Expect an update on this in my next report, but what I have in mind does involve a fair bit of work and it’s important to get it right the first time.
Another idea floating in my head, mostly centered on improving our Wiki and archiving a few items for posterity. Low priority, but I aim to have it completed by the end of August.
I’ll be having a detailed discussion with Wally about these, but he knows the basics. I have mental outlines for “expansion packs” to add extra content to the ACC. The first is an avenue for space battles, and the second is an overhaul of the species system and how it works in the character sheet system. Neither of these were my ideas (Andrelious and A’lora are to blame, ultimately), but I’ll make them work. The first will require quite a bit of research on my part to pull it together, and the other will require quite a bit of coding study and website work, but I am pretty sure I can handle both in this quarter. More to follow as I progress.
And that, of course, leaves only one other pet project...
I have fallen behind here. The next section (which I have just posted) is a trailer of sorts, echoing future events. Always in motion, the future is, and I wanted to make sure that everything is likely to proceed as I have foreseen it before I posted. As I alluded to in my last report, I am bringing back an old character of mine and creating a new Clan super-villain; and while the Clan as a whole will be dragged into the storyline eventually, the next chapter is still my own domain.
It may also be a little delayed, as I need to compile everything into one document, then plan this out and share it around the Summit before I go much further.
Again, thank you for respecting my wishes to not post in the Sins of the Father thread.
