At long last, the sun had finally passed its apex in the sky, signaling the downward slide of afternoon, into evening, into night. The night was sleep and silence. The day was anything but that. Tonight would mark the end of day fifty-seven of the continual training exercises. Fifty-seven days of noise, pain, chaos.

Yet despite all that, Private LeFon Dulok felt oddly at home amidst the chaos. When he first arrived at the Atrophos Military Academy, it was like he was drowning in the depths of the ocean, unable to breathe, only capable of panic.

Yet here on day fifty-seven, he ran without hesitation as his squad commander ordered. His unit hauled themselves up the steep embankment of the hill. At its top was a group comprised of Brotherhood Clan members, one of many that had arrived to help prepare the military for what they would face in the field.

He felt a slight tickle under his chin and paused. There were no birds around, no feathers to cause such a sensation. He turned around on the spot as he experienced another tickle.

Not a feather. A tail.

The thinly-tipped tail guided him around until he came face to face with her.

LeFon Dulok had seen all kinds of these Brotherhood types over the last fifty-seven days. But none of them could have prepared him for the incredibly tall and leggy person before him.
