September is set to be an exciting month for Clan Plagueis. We have staffing shake ups, major competitions on the horizon, the works. Read on!
Our post-GJW staff updates continue with the biggest shake up we've had since I took over. Alaris Jinn di Plagia, the one man Blue Man Group, will be stepping aside as Proconsul. He has been an invaluable member of the Clan summit since I took over, enjoying a very successful term in the Proconsul chair. Sometimes it's amazing to think that he has been Proconsul for 15.5 months at this point, speaking to a level of summit consistency that is the bedrock a successful Clan is built on. However, much like the final episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation: All good things must come to an end. Alaris plans to stick around, shaking his walker at members and summit alike, in an advisory capacity as I feel it would be silly to toss aside as experienced a voice as his.
That, however, brings us to his successor. There is one other member of the summit that has been doing their job for even longer than Alaris has served as Proconsul (even if for only two days longer!). Our current Quaestor of House Ventress has been on the job since May 12th of last year and has made an impression that very few have ever been able to make. When the time came to select a new Proconsul, I knew that there was nobody better qualified to do the job and no application was going to convince me differently. With that being the case, I made the decision to move Qormus into the position of Plagueis Proconsul. Additionally, his second Nora Olen, who he has been training since she came on board the summit, will be replacing him as House Ventress Quaestor. At this time, we've decided that our current structure of QUAs and BTL's leading their respective units will suffice, so we have no plans to appoint another Aedile at this time.
Congrats to our new (old) summit members on their advancement, but also congrats to Alaris on a productive tour as Proconsul.
You read that right, the Pro Bowl rides again! This year's event promises to be the largest yet, with participants from across the Brotherhood taking part. All participating Clans were requested to compete in the spirit of the Pro Bowl, namely to check their Clan loyalties at the door and pledge themselves to the Frog-Dogs and Rotworms respectively! Those that agreed were invited to attend this year's event, and the turnout was frankly staggering! In addition to Plagueis, this year's event will also include returning clans from years past in the form of Vizsla, Scholae Palatinae, Naga Sadow, and Taldryan! In addition, two new participating units will be taking the plunge: Clan Odan-Urr as well as the Council. That's right folks, you might bump into one of the real power brokers of the Brotherhood on the team bus this year!
Overview
Pro Bowl 2022 is a three-week, multi-event competition designed to test each and every member of the attending units. An opening event will determine which order our teams will have in a Draft-style event led by the Pro Bowl organizers. The teams will alternate their selections until the entire roster of all attending units are split between them, with equal parts of each clan ending up on each team. Once the roster is set, the teams will battle it out in a series of events spread over the course of three weeks. Events will include the standard fare of Fiction, Graphics, Gaming, and Trivia, along with some less common events designed to help test each member participating. We're aiming to provide a nicely rounded field when it comes to the competitions on offer, with nearly all of the events set for individual entrants aside from one small group fiction.
Schedule:
The Pro Bowl will be running on a very similar schedule to last year, with our prologue week event starting September 26th. Then, we will have three single week rounds following that with the entire event ending October 23rd. Full week by week breakdowns are as follows:
Scoring:
Something that has been carried over from Pro Bowls past, is an emphasis on showing up. Every member, every entry will contribute to the overall score of each team, and lead one of them to victory. Contributions big and small up and down the roster, just like the 53 man roster of an American football team, are meaningful! This can be seen in the Pro Bowl scoring system:
Each individual will earn five points per event they participate in. Participation is defined as a valid submission for an event. Simply signing up for an event or uploading an unqualified submission will not count. You have to put in the effort in order to receive the reward. Participation will earn 5 points.
Additionally, the top three individuals in each event will earn placement modifier points. First place will earn 4 points, second place will earn 3 points, and third place will earn 2 points, and all other entries will earn 1 point. Events themselves will have modifiers based on their perceived difficulty/level of effort required. For example: the modifier for fiction will be 3, the modifier for gaming/graphics/poetry will be 2, and no modifier will be added to puzzle/trivia/flash events.
Grading formula: (Placement Score * Event Modifier) + Participation = Event Score
At the end of the competition, the individual scores for all three weeks will be added up, and the top three individuals will earn crescents for the overall competition. Total scores for both teams, including the Prologue Week event, will determine the victorious team.
Members will get more points for placing, but the biggest way you can contribute to your team's victory (and bragging rights over your opponents, be they from other Clans or your fellow Clan-mates) is just being active. So, to quote Theodore Roosevelt: "Get Action!"
Once again, Thanks to Alaris and all the work he's done for the Ascendant Clan. He's still going to be a team captain for the Pro Bowl, though, so I can imagine that he's just as excited about this as everyone. Well, maybe not as excited as TuQ. I do not, however, think there is anyone that gets as excited as TuQ about the Pro Bowl (Though I think #BeatKam comes close?).
Keep on Adapt, Ascend, Availing out there, everyone!
