A Well-Deserved Promotion

First and foremost, I want to cover something that's been a long time coming. I've been quite literally counting the days, waiting to put this recommendation in.

It is my honor to announce the elevation of our very own CrocAedile to Equite III!

You guys can (and should) read all the reccs here, but I'll leave you with the following excerpt:

You're a leader. And a truly gifted one at that.

I watched you turn a ragtag group of idle veterans and fledgling newbies into a fighting force that I have no doubt could trounce any other Battleteam in the Brotherhood. I watched you take note of a bright but inexperienced Journeyman and nurture her into a Battleteam Leader that is increasingly confident, talented and fully capable of taking on nearly any job in the Brotherhood. I've seen you adopt misanthropic members, slowly fan their flame for the Brotherhood, and bring them into the fold that is Arcona, helping them to become productive members. For all your footle and bombast, I've seen how much you care about your fellow members, and how much time and effort you spend reaching out to them, including them, and truly making them know that they matter. I just hope you know that you do too.

In the time I've known you, you've grown into a talented writer, a fierce competitor, and a loyal friend to everyone around you. You don't issue orders, you break new paths and set an example that others want to follow. In the past year and a half of constant leadership, you've shown everyone around you exactly why you deserve this promotion.

I've seen much in the seventeen years I've been a member of the Brotherhood. But I've seen little that fills me with as much pride as writing these words:

Projects

There's a number of projects the House and Clan Summits are currently juggling, not the least of which are writing Sins III and preparing for the upcomign War, but I wanted to keep you all updated on the big three that effect House Qel-Droma.

Timeline Revisions

Though much delayed due to work and other commitments, I've finally finished revisions on the new Qel-Droma timeline. You can find it here. We collated information from a number of sources, including the Wiki, old emails, archaic fictions, archived run-on threads and our own fallible memories. I've tried to include all the major events in Arcona and Qel-Droma's history (that we could find solid information on), however if you spot anything missing that you feel should be included, by all means [Log in to view e-mail addresses] and we can include it. Seriously.

Wiki Revamp

Our radiant Crocaedile has been spearheading this project, and it is currently seeing a lot of headway. Most of the major articles that needed revisions have been completely (in their individual Googel Docs, or on the Wiki itself). We're now working on consistent templates to use across wiki articles, as well as categorizing the articles and creating more useful series for them to increase discoverability. As usual, if you want to help out in any capacity, email K'tana and myself and we'll get you setup.

Recruitment Drive

"Qel-Droma has been slowly gathering active new members and lately we have been graced with four prime examples. It is within our vision to increase these numbers and to do so, we have decided to start a recruitement drive. Our goal is to create active, organized, and entertaining promotional accounts via a number of selected social platforms. With which, we plan to share information on what is the DJB and Qel-Droma, house events, featured members’ content, Star Wars franchise hype, etc. A generic blurb will be created for the House accounts which will give a quick introduction to the DJB that will lure in these prospective joins. A similar yet smaller blurb will be made for those who would like to promote on their individual accounts, but wish to take a more passive part. The nominated platforms so far include:

News

Brotherhood

There's been a number of major news items since the Consul report a few days ago, so I'll just be covering those. For the November news, make sure to check out Atyiru's awesome report. Seriously, there was a ton of news that you need to know. Just bring sunglasses to deal with the disco gif.

• M:Fist Open - Applications are being accepted until December 16th, so get yours in ASAP.

• M:Voice Selected - In a move that surprised no one (except, likely, herself), our illustrious Consul Atyiru has been chosen as Magistrate to the Voice. That means when you're pissed about Fiction-related things, you can now shout at Kordath and Atty!

• Possessions Live - I don't know if I can truly put this in perspective for our newer membership, but I'll try. Twelve and a half years ago, I was blessed with the opportunity to serve as Combat Master. At that time, I was read into a project called Possessions. It was already known as "that project that will never get finished". In all the time since then it has lingered on, worked on sporadically, but never seeing the light of day. Then Evant came along a year and a half ago. In that time, through an unfathomable amount of work, he and James (our Seneschal and Coder Extraordinaire) have somehow thrown away all the false starts and half measures to complete, from the ground up, Possessions as we know it today. They'll be the first to tell you that it was a group effort, that they had a staff of very talented, very motivated individuals helping them. The recent spate of awards (see below) corroborate that. Nonetheless, it was their tireless work and effort that finally brought this erstwhile vaporware to fruition. These two individuals are amazing, and personally I can't thank them enough for their work. For those of you who haven't taken the time to explore Possessions, I don't know what you're waiting for. It's astounding.

• Herald Update - The Herald staff have also dropped a quick update you should read. They've been hard at work on Possessions, but they've somehow also found the time to liaise with the Seneschal to offer a new "Request Custom Graphics" option on the Administration page. Gone are the days of filling out Google Forms for Custom weapons, robes, etc. Now, there's a handy interface built into the site that takes into account what you do and do not have access to. If you haven't yet, go check it out.

• Seven Strands - This is a big one, boys and girls. If you want to know where the Dark Brotherhood is fictionally or how the Clans are arrayed for and against the Grand Master (and you should), check out the latest update from the Voice office. It includes a brief fiction from each Clan's Summit detailing their current fictional alignment and how they stand on the Adolf Pravus issue. I highly recommend reading it.

• Santa Sarin - Finally, we have a brief but important update from our Grand Master. It includes three promotions (two Elder-level promotions) and eight Sacramentals. Seriously, go check it out and congratulate these amazing Brethren for their awards - and thank them for their unceasing efforts while you're at it.

Clan

• As I mentioned above, there's a new Consul report released that has even more information. Go check it out if you haven't already.
• Aftermath is over, and it answered a very important question about Arcona, Plagueis and Tarentum.

Competitions

Brotherhood

The biggest competition (and it's very big) this month is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Celebration. It's so big, it's the only one I'm covering in this report. There's 9 sub-competitions across a variety of platforms and mediums. If you haven't yet, go check it out. I expect every one of you to submit to at least one event. Personally, I'm doing all of them except the gaming (because I don't have Battlefront).

• As mentioned above, the promotion I'm most excited to announce is that of our amazing Crocaedile to Equite III. Seriously guys, you have no idea how much Kat does to keep Qel-Droma running. I couldn't do this job without her. Well done, Kat.

Closing Words

2016 has been a really harrowing year for a lot of people. Florence Henderson, Leonard Cohen, Gene Wilder, Kenny Baker, Anton Yelchin, Muhammad Ali, Prince, Harper Lee, Alan Rickman, David Bowie and, just a few days ago, John Glenn. Seriously guys, 2016 has been like:

Through it all, though, the Brotherhood is here. You guys are here. No matter what happens, that makes me feel better. I love all of you. And since it's that time of year…
