Hello friends!
There are some moderate sized changes this report, so read it (and the changelog, thanks Arch) thoroughly to get all the deets.
I felt this needed its own big section, so I can keep you guys informed about what's going on with this project. As many of you know, I pitched this to the Overlords over a year ago but it was for the most part frozen while we waited on FreeJamesTime because he was busy implementing the XP system for Journeymen and Equites. It was worth the wait, of course, but we were able to start working on this project once more. After some discussion with James, we decided our original idea of a full currency alongside credits was going to be more of a pain than we anticipated, and the focus of the project has instead shifted to something possessions was already coded to mostly account for in case it showed up down the line: item crafting.
How will it work? We've mostly hashed that out, but everything is a work in progress, and any of this could change as it gets coded. The gist of it is we'll be using a new trophy (like societies) to grant you a finite amount of special crafting material, based on certain XP thresholds. You will input that granted crafting material, a base item (in most cases), and a purchasable crafting material (there will be a variety at various prices) into a "crafting recipe" - a set of requirements for a craftable item. After inputting you hit craft, and site automagic replaces those inputted items with the crafted item in your possessions. It will be reversible, so you can get that special granted crafting material and everything else you inputted back to use for crafting other things if you want.
Crafting an item will be cheaper than purchasing it outright, but there's a catch: you've used that valuable granted crafting material, which will be important later on as you'll require most or all of it at certain XP thresholds to craft your legendary space vehicle, or to acquire a corvette and upgrade it from a hunk of junk into a fully functioning corvette. All crafted items (except the first two iterations of your corvette) will feature legendary upgrades, but be considered a new rarity - Masterwork - to prevent them from being sold. Not all items will be craftable (like the higher functionality "special edition" items from the Celebration Store, and many others) and not all items will be purchasable. The system will offer you more choice with your credits, and let you obtain legendary upgrades on items you normally wouldn't.
I'll have more details for you work on this project progresses
I've been doing a lot of thinking lately, which has led to some pretty major changes to the way our stores will operate going forward (after lots of back and forth with Evant)
The main breakdown for how the stores work is this:
It's a little weird that you can buy technological equipment from both the Brotherhood Trading Company and Utilis Innovations, and often find myself having to search both stores to find what I'm looking for. I doubt that I’m alone in this. In order to make things a little easier and intuitive for members, Utilis Innovations will be shifting to a droid-only store at some point in the future, and will be the only place (aside from special editions or vendetta items) where you will be able to find a non-legendary droid. All other technology related items in Utilis Innovations will be shifted to the Brotherhood Trading Company, which already sells a ton of different equipment and technology for members.
The somewhat fresh (fresh as in, it hasn't been around for years yet) lightsaber store is now the sole place for you to purchase kyber crystals and lightsaber weapons. This includes any previous lightsaber type weapons, such as the Forcesaber, and incoming lightsaber weapons. The one exemption is the Kohlen Crystal and Kohlen Crystal Shield Bracer, as the Kohlen Crystal is not technically a lightsaber. If it's confusing, I can move it there.
Born out of my badgering Evant about non-”special edition” items, especially those related to character lore (Jedi, Sith, Nightsister, Mandalorian) being locked behind a time-limit and only available 5% of the time, we both came to the conclusion that the Celebration Store had morphed into something it should not have over time. After re-establishing the way the stores function (above), we needed a place for all those lost super-rare and hard-to-come-by Celebration Store items that weren't "special editions" and no longer had a home.
Thus, Regent's Rarities was born. If its super rare, and super expensive, you can probably find it there. It operates akin to Luthen's Rarities & Antiquities, which any joe blow can walk into and buy something from. It is open all the time. A secretive black market-type shop setup in the heart of Mattock Station, Regent's Rarities is everyone's one-stop shop for the rarest and hard to come by items you can't find anywhere else. The Regent has wares, if you have coin.
To specifically go along with the opening of Regent's Rarities, I've prepared an item release that Magistrate Teebu helped to deploy and deployed some quality-of-life fixes to the system to correct some things. Included in this release are all of the items that were added as a result of the Life Day Celebration Item competition (yes, I kept my word on the Droideka), but given the Celebration Store no longer operates the same way, some of these made it into Regent's Rarities and others into regular stores. Since it didn't seem fair to have just one ship from Star Wars: The Old Republic added (it was a winning entry), I've added them all and Regent-plotted away the fact they're old as hell.
Mandalorian Vambraces have undergone a MASSIVE change after finally making the decision to align them with canon (I held out so long!), which included axing the extra wrist blaster and adding beskar (thanks Wookieepedia). The set of 2 Mandalorian Vambraces has been permanently decommissioned from the stores, meaning you can sell them if you got 'em, but you can't buy them anymore. These will remain in the system, as will the Pure Beskar Alloy legacy upgrade. Taking their place is a single Mandalorian Vambrace variant (which also uses RianArt as a bonus), with a special Mandalorian Vambrace Configuration aspect that allows you to choose which vambrace loadout you want, a right vambrace or left vambrace loadout. You can choose two of the same loadout if you'd like to buy two, or keep one Configuration A and one Configuration B. This change should also allow members a little more customizability with their characters, as they will be able to equip two size 2 weapons and a single vambrace.
The Lightsaber Gauntlet, Lightsaber Tonfa (Guard Shoto Lightsaber), and Light Shield have all been locked to Equite 2, because there is no Herald dossier art for these items and as such they fall back on the "custom weapon" alignment of possessions and Herald graphics.
In regards to the Celebration Store, I imagine a lot of you feel like "what's even the point of that store" or "the allure is gone", but fear not! There are still plenty of special edition items in that store without all of this moved content, and we have a lot more planned. Since special editions will not be craft-able, cold hard credits spent in the Celebration Store is the only way to obtain them. This May will see another release of special edition items you can't get anywhere else that feature higher functionality, including a special edition of a certain backpack droid that's returning to our screen's in April...
Overall this was a pretty massive change, so please let us know via [Log in to view e-mail addresses] if you see anything amiss or have any questions.
