It was a coin toss between this and Firefly at the end of the day.
Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen,
Welcome to my last report as Sunrider's Aedile. By the end of this month you will have a new Quaestor leading the House, and someone far more deserving in the rank of Aedile. While I will be on hand to offer help as and when it is needed, it's going to be someone else's chance to lead Sunrider from here on and be given the opportunity to craft storylines. I wish them the best of luck with that task.
The bulk of this report will be dealing with the fallout of the prior Great Jedi War and dealing with the details surrounding August and the first half of this month. I’ll leave the future to whoever writes the next report.
The Great Jedi War ended, and we finished fourth. It’s quite a step down from our previous record, but given the events leading up to it this shouldn’t have been a real surprise. Still, the event was a well earned win for Arcona and Naga Sadow more than earned their second place. We will just have to make sure that we are ready for the next big inter-clan conflict.
The full (corrected) results can be found here, along with a listing of the credits we earned in the GJW here. We will also be seeing both a fiction update and also community wide survey on these events later on this month, so please keep an eye open for that.
Those interested in a position involving the Shadow Academy would also do well to take a look at this announcement. Seraphol is searching for a new Praetor to assist with running the Academy. This is a position which requires leadership experience, diplomacy and would place you on the Dark Summit, so it is one of considerable responsibility. Nevertheless, I urge you to at least glance at the requirements for the role given how rare an opportunity this is.
In further details, Alaris has stepped down as Fist for the time being. Opportunities to apply as his replacement will be made available in roughly one week’s time. In more joyful news however, Junazee has covered a number of gaming updates here. This covers both the release of Overwatch and Jedi Outcast on the Nintendo Switch, along with ongoing gaming sales and news.
The Scimitar event for August was understandably quiet, given how many efforts focused upon GJW competitions. As we were only given clusters, novas and the like for them earlier this month, this means that most of these will appear in the September results. While it was tempting to roll these into one single entry in the Scimitar, this is simpler overall. Plus, for anyone who lacked the time to fully contribute to the GJW for any number of reasons, this does offer an opportunity to level the playing field against the points awarded to those who earned novas.
So, here are August’s victors:
Congratulations to the winners, and I wish those who failed better luck this month.
While most people are in the process of recovering and relaxing in the wake of an especially busy August, there are nevertheless several competitions which are still worth looking into. A number of these are both open ended or simple enough to play around with. If you are looking for a fiction which does not require you to be a part of a far larger event, or even a spoof of the GJW, I suggest looking at the following:
Great Jedi War 13: The Movie - Pitch a movie based upon the events surrounding first contact with the Severian Principate. You decide the genre, outline a general plot, and even a few merchandising opportunities.
Evaluation time - Write the Brotherhood as a corporation with your character preparing for their evaluation. Have fun.
The Pictures in the Sound - 9 - Another long-running competition makes its return with this one. You draw an image based upon a song linked in the description. The fine details and general elements are left up to you.
End of the Akk Days - Summer is nearly over and your character is returning home from the big conflict. What are your character’s thoughts, reactions and how has it impacted them?
Word Bank 1 - This is a part of the much larger series of competitions which will run for one month each. In essence, you are given a few words to use, a general scenario, and you are told to put together a story. It’s less of a plan and more of a general guideline, so if that appeals to you then give it a shot.
More than a few of our members performed above and beyond what was required of them over the past month, with many earning medals. This was both for actions in the GJW and the several months before that. We’re even still giving them out as it is. So, here’s a listing of those handed out thus far:
Seer Junazee - Grand Cross
Knight Creshkin Vos - Anteian Cross
Knight Zanothi Nightblade - Anteian Cross
Seer Constantine - Dark Cross
Savant Sa Ool - Dark Cross
Mystic Talis DeMorte - Dark Cross
Knight Tyraal Bitshiver - Dark Cross
Because it would be wrong not to at least record the accomplishments of our members of late, even if they won’t count for this month’s Scimitar.

The #AskTarvitz opportunity to ask questions in Telegram provoked a few interesting questions this time, mostly of the fun sort.
Constantine asks: “What are your plans for the future, and how do you see Sunrider developing?”
Well, Odan-Urr has a lot of wikia pages which are incomplete or horribly out of date. It was the very thing I was originally recruited for, for a few odd reasons. I might as well continue that work now I have the free time.
As for Sunrider's development I will just say this - We have a House which is dedicated to police actions, hunting down hostile targets and pursuing the Vatali Empire's enemies. That leaves future storytellers with the option to do everything from infiltrating smuggling rings to liberating planets from the shallow Vong reskin. There are a lot of options for small scale actions along with big ones to break things up, in contrast to some of the bigger arcs we handled over the past few years.
Archenksov asks: “What are you most proud of from your time in positioned leadership?”
To be completely blunt with you, there really isn't anything in all honesty. I just hope that whoever does replace me will do a better job.
If there is something to be proud of its the accomplishments of our members, but that's their victory and not mine.
Ethan asks: “Is it acceptable yet to commit mass destruction and genocide of a planet just to setup an Artistrocrats Joke?”
Only if you are playing a Sith Lord or possibly if your character's name is Alucard. At which point I would applaud you for being entirely in character and taking full advantage of your villain role.
Tisto asks: “How do you feel about the hastily made new uniform of short skirts and short kilts?”
I welcome it as it would put the fear of death into the Sith. No Sith Lord fears death itself, but they fear "stabbed to death while being flashed by a man in a kilt" being carved onto their tombstone. They could build three hundred death stars and conquer the galaxy, and that detail would haunt them to the Dark Side and back.
It has also proven to be a very effective recruitment tool.
Well, that’s it then. I wish my successors the best of luck, and to the rest of you thank you all for tolerating my leadership for this long.
The only advice I will leave you all is simply this:
Put fun and engagement first when it comes to the Brotherhood.
Life always comes before the Brotherhood.
When it comes to writing, use any worthwhile opportunity and idea to explore your character’s development.
You will never get a chance to improve anything if you do not speak up and push to fix things. Sometimes that requires voicing problems, and sometimes that requires you to step up and do the work yourself. You will never get anything done by sitting back and simply accepting failures.
Use downtime between events as a chance to try new things.
But, above all else:
You need to be logged in to post comments
Thank you for your time as Aedile.
Good report Tarvitz. I know you don't believe it but you left your mark on Odan-Urr and Sunrider and I'm proud to have worked with you.
There's no better way to go out than BRIAN BLESSED! HAWKMEN, DIIIIIIIIVE
