Featured Article and Wikipedians of the Month

The May Featured Article is Xen'Mordin Vismorsus created by Xen’Mordin. While looking around for an article to feature, I stumbled on Xen’s and was surprised that it hadn’t yet been featured. I actually had to go throw all of the past featured articles over the years just to be sure, but alas, it hadn’t been so there we have it. Well done, Xen.

For this month we have no Wikipedians of the Month. It was a very slow week around the wiki, and even though I do love handing things out to people, I did not feel that anyone had earned the scroll for the month.

Wiki Competition!

Yes, an honest-to-goodness wiki competition! It’s a fairly straight-forward concept, in that you have been asked to create a specific article that can be used for official purposes. You can head over to the Official Competition Page for all the details!

I know we have a lot of talented wiki’ers out there, and hopefully the topic will be interesting to most of you. You get to create an important NPC from scratch, and in doing so may net yourself a nice crescent. And the winner, if done well, will probably see their article featured and net another award. Good? Good!

End of the Road

Although I have only been in the job for a couple of months, I am resigning from the position. Although I have a number of things I want to do, I know very well that I don’t have the time or energy to get them implemented. I essentially can’t live up to my own personal standards, and have never been one to half-ass the job just for the sake of it. Either I am able to do it fully, or I step away. As such, I’ve decided to step away from all formal leadership roles, but will be sticking around as just a regular ‘ol member.

I’ve made the higher-ups aware of all this already, and they’re currently decided what to do with things. Until something concrete is decided and I’m formally booted out of here, I’ll continue to look after the day-to-day stuff on the wiki itself. I am still very much available to answer any questions, and to look at any articles you have. You can also continue sending me articles to approve for those promotional guidelines.

Wiki Tip of the Month

While everyone is fairly faimilar with how linking to articles internally is done, I sometimes see some issues with linking articles to the Star Wars Wiki. Our own wikipedia is set-up so that we can, more-or-less, link directly to the SW wiki. It just has it’s own special way of doing so.

So, how do you link to a SW wiki article? Simple! [[starwars:Article Name|name to show]]. The “Article Name” should be the name of the SW wiki article. For example, let’s say you want to link to the Luke Skywalker article? It would look like this [[starwars:Luke Skywalker|the guy who never got power convertors]]. While it’s great to link to articles on our own wiki, there is a lot more information on the SW wiki that we don’t have on our own and will help your own article link to the greater SW universe.
