Star Wars Canon is about to get a lot clearer... hopefully

Holocron

What has come down today though is some news that Lucasfilm has convened a specialized Star Wars story group, to finally answer the question "just exactly what is canon anyways."

Tweets from @HolocronKeeper, who despite having stolen Ben's Twitter Handle, is a member of the Story Group team whose real name is Leeland Chee had this to say about the matter.

Star Wars Canon is now determined by the Lucasfilm Story Group which @Infinata and I are both a part of.

Story Group has a hand in all facets of Star Wars storytelling, including movies, TV, games, and publishing. More so than ever, the canon field will serve us internally simply for classification rather than setting hierarchy.

And further stating that Disposing of the hierarchy and having one cohesive canon is definitely a primary goal of the Story Group.

Thanks to BleedingCool.com for the news.

I do NOT like his Twitter background...

Ah, Leland Chee is officially working on this, excellent. I can't see any reason to keep him on the payroll beyond to keep doing the job he's done for years.

I like the idea of one canon too, and getting rid of all the arguments and rows over G-Canon or S-Canon or C-Canon. Maybe with Disney owning both the films and Marvel and everything else under one umbrella, they won't all fight over whose is "more official" anymore.

He's always been a strong supporter of EU development; especially with the novels; so this is something I can get behind and support.

I sincerely doubt he'll let it get too torn up. Though I can imagine Dark Empire probably won't make it into the official canon line, since that had a lot of dispute before on top of it even going into the novela line.

Does this mean we should start saving up? And collecting further? Cos everything they remove from canon, needs to be removed from later works as well. As Arturis said, "Dark Empire" won't make it in, but didn't we get two Jedi apprentices of Luke's from there? Do we get new stories for their backgrounds or will they have to be removed from canon.

Just remember, they reached into ep.6 to add Christensen, what'll they do to the current EU to make it fit the future canon? (/me guards his copy of "Dark Empire")

Dark Empire was actually one of the rare stories Lucas supposedly liked, so "Btw, Palps once had a clone that we killed" might still make the cut, even if it's survival becomes as distorted and compressed as what's happened to Naga Sadow or Exar Kun several times over the years.

Of course, Lucas is also the guy who was happy to resurrect Darth Maul with robotic legs, so YMMV :P

From my understanding, Palpatine is going to be back... but as a Dark Side Spirit.
